Has been like this since February or March. Not only is the new description wrong (you should also use PC on your TV) but I would really like it if they finally fix this broken ass full rgb output.

Are you getting crushed blacks?

You could use a PC on your TV, you are right, but if your tv doesn't accept a Full RGB input like my Panasonic plasma, then you need to change settings on your PC.

Thanks to all of you guys for beta testing this stuff. Sometimes I get jealous that you get new features early but you are always dealing with several issues that I don't think I can bare.

Actually I would recommend against that. Use TV for TV, and PC for PC. Unless your TV is expecting to receive 0-255 color space through HDMI, you will actually get worse IQ by being in the incorrect mode.

Great post on AVS forum that explains this better than I can.

And here's a link to a file that will show you whether your TV can receive 0-255. Link to this site through IE on the console, and you can make the image full-screen.

For those who may not know, we have a pretty good HDTV calibration tool in Settings, which may be JV for folks on this forum, but I highly recommend for most users especially if you're using "out of the box" TV settings or just eyeballing it. Also - turn on Game mode, (or shut off any post-processing your TV does) and turn Sharpness all the way down (unless you have a test pattern).

We fixed that in one of the first updates.

It's still a bit more dark.

The calibration tool is really handy BTW, helped me and my friend set up our new TV. Wish you updated it to include calibration for watching movies and not purely for gaming.

What would you expect to be different? (this is an honest question, not trolling)

And have you actually checked out that linked picture yourself on a Xbox One connected to a TV that supports and expects full range?

I don't think so because then you would know that it's clipping the lower values.

I appreciate you trying to help me but I know this stuff. And oh of course both my VT60 and JVC projector support it.

Everyone is.

The console doesn't output the lower values. It's broken. Been discussed many times. Microsoft needs to get on it and fix it.

Most TVs don't support full (expanded/PC) either at all or unless they are in a special mode. I think renaming it to TV and PC (whenever they did that) was a good idea.

I know my TV doesn't only supports limited and crushes blacks if the Xbox is set to expanded. Put in on on limited/TV and all that lost detail returns.

You guys fixed the sharpness filter. Not the rgb output issue. Digital Foundry even had an article on it. Maybe it was fixed in an internal update but never actually pushed out to the public?

It might be something that needs to be supported at an SDK level , perhaps newer releases will fix it

It's not fixed Albert.

I have the perfect example for you. I own Trials Fusion on both the XB1 and PS4. The XB1 version crushes the blacks to the point where it's hard to see at times on the darker tracks. I know my tv stuff, and each console is set up exactly the same, with the same tv settings. The only variable is the console outputting the signal.

The XB1 version is clearly darker and looks worse because of the crushed blacks. The PS4 version looks exactly as I'd expect it to look.

Here are Digital Foundry's screenshots so you can even compare yourself. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-20-trials-fusion-quad-format-comparison-gallery

It would be great to see you guys fix this, but I don't expect it, because someone at your company is very fond of crushed blacks. The exact same problem existed with the 360.

That's a pretty big "unless". Nobody is really even debating the relatively minor inherent quality differences between limited and full -- the problem is full is broken on xbox even when the display is expecting it

I just used that test page you linked w/ my TV explicitly set to RGB 0-255 and my xbox (aug update) set to "PC" and I can only get 17-28 using IE no matter how much I increase the brightness

here is a photo in game mode w/ brightness maxed:

ps4, same settings:

Yes these are photos which bring some problems, and poor ones at that, but I feel the difference is stark enough to make my point

It's even more simple than that. Just look at that picture he linked with both consoles set to full range RGB output. One will not be like the other with the PS4 showing all values. The Xbox starts to display at 17 (which would be correct if it were actually outputting limited RGB where 17 should be the lowest value you should be able to see)

It second that it makes me worried that this is the supposed fixed state.

i think the launch games with the crush black has more to do with the game itself than the scaler now.

It's not the scaler. Native 1080p games also have black crush. Everything is affected by this. The console is not outputting the full range RGB signal correctly. It clips all values below 17.

I can also attest that watching darker shows like True Blood and Game of Thrones through the Xbox One is an exercise in frustration due to black crush. You can barely see what's going on during the darker scenes. I'm using a projector which doesn't have amazing black levels to begin with but still.

Updating now.
The controller vibrates.

Anything else besides that and the new activity feed?
Could be me, but feels more snappy.

it is literally on the home screen where it has been since it launched in the bottom right.

If it were there on my screen, do you think I'd be asking where they moved it?

I don't have those three featured item panels anymore, instead it is a massive Tomb Raider Ad.

LOL no clue but on mine it is in the same location it has been since launch so don't know what to tell you and I downloaded my update earlier tonight. The only time it isn't there is when someone isn't signed into the console.

Kind of weird.

I probably just need to reset the console or something and it's not like I actually need to use the section at the moment, I seriously thought maybe they moved it to a new spot.

I couldn't find it earlier either. Same home screen as you -- no featured stuff like games w/ gold. I didn't put a lot of effort into it though and just went to the website.

Normally a reset fixed that stuff.
To me it's funny that the same code on the same hardware produces different things.

Voice recognition for changing channels on my TV is wayyy better in this update. I notice it almost instantly.

#1 TV can be louder than I normally have it, meanwhile I can speak quieter and with a more normal tone of voice than before.

#2 The speed and responsiveness of channel switching is quite a bit better. There was definitely more of a delay or a bigger (but still short) time interval prior to this update.

Hm. You may be right - I know we did a fix right after launch, maybe it was the other issue.

This is good info - let me look into it.

Bear summed it up. Hope you send it to the team.

I will.

I was, however, asking about your question regarding this:

'Wish you updated it to include calibration for watching movies and not purely for gaming."

How would you want the calibration to be different?

Well, for instance most recommend turning on Warm/Warm 2 for movies (which should be on by default under cinema/movie modes). Some prefer motion stuff on and other enhancements that obviously can't be on in Game mode. From what I have seen movie calibrations tend to be darker than regular or gaming modes so perhaps the tool can reflect that? I'm pretty casual when it come to this and usually just use whatever is recommended online for my TV set and then adjust it further for my preference so anything is welcome by me.

Gotcha. Wanted to make sure that's what you meant.

I use DVE HD Basics whenever setting up a new player:

But It does take a lot of fiddling to get it perfect.
Used the Xbox One calibration tool and put the disc in to see how off it was and to my surprise it was spot on!

Was shocked as it was way simpler and got the same results.

It's something small, but I love the little small vibrate the controller does now when you hold the nexus button.

The new activity feed is cool too. Really digging it. Can;t wait for the full update to be implemented. Liking it so far.

Ha. You asked for it :[

On side note, my gamer status feed/ activity are finally up and running. Works great. Needs improved format later but glad it is here. Good update.

To Albert: please ask the team to allow us to fully customize the order in which our pins appear. Maybe hover over the specific pin, use the back button to pop the pin out so we can move it around the page

The easiest solution would be just to hold A to move them around and place them by releasing A. Like it works on every other Win 8 device.

The new activity feed is great. Sort of mixes Youtube with Twitter in a good way. I love what you're doing with the system, Albert. I remember at launch I was seriously disappointed by the overall functionality but you've managed to turn it around and make it better and better. Now please add some media playback features (all popular formats, full NAS support, not just Play To). And PiP overlay options for video apps/TV instead of snapping to the screen.

To be honest, I'd be happy without the dedicate Friends Tab. I like that it's cleaner and simply "Pins", "Home" and "Store".

But I'm really happy with the way Microsoft is finally integrating everything as opposed to using individual apps like before. Yes the apps are still present and can be used individually, but now I can watch a friend's clip right on the new activity feed rather than Upload opening as a dedicated app.

Great stuff.

Keep up the good work with the updates, one id like having picked up the nice media remote was gutted it didnt work in the youtube app, any chance that could be looked at. Would it be an os thing or by app update?.

The official remote works with the youtube app since around the 1407 update.
