Kojima *IS* at comiccon. I bet Charles Martinet probably is, too. Anyone know if David Hayter is? :p What about Keifer?

SDCC HYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE :p

It is surprising, but we also haven't see Falco, Ness, Ice Climbers, Wario or Jigglypuff yet either. It's been strange to think of some veterans we haven't had announced yet.
I have an odd feeling Wario and Ice Climbers are guests for the Rhythm Heaven reveal. I will have to remember to quote this if it turns out true.

Alternate trailer idea:

Trailer opens with Kojima at a press conference

Reporter: "Kojima-san, is Snake in the new Smash Bros.?"

Kojima: "Hmm, no one's asked me, but it'd be nice."

*this familiar scene is then shown from a side perspective, revealing Sakurai standing behind Kojima, wearing a black nylon mask and holding a glock to Kojima's back*

*cue Snake montage*

Nah, what will happen is the trailer will open with Wario singing "Wario De Mambo" horribly, then suddenly the music stops and he hears a "you failed" song. He then looks angry and starts jumping around before a musical note suddenly blows him away, camera pans to the right and you see the Chorus Kids standing there and they sing a little tune before the gameplay starts. Then after the gameplay it zooms out of the Chorus Kids singing and you see Jigglypuff looking at them angrily as she pulls out a microphone.

Ganondorf wasn't revealed for Brawl until after the game was released (and even then he was one of the last characters to get a profile page) despite Link and Zelda being among the very first characters revealed (Zelda was the first veteran revealed after the original trailer), and there was absolutely no indication prior that he was in the game at all unlike Melee. You're seeing a pattern that just isn't there I'm afraid. There's nothing more unusual about Ganondorf not being revealed than Wario, or Meta Knight, or Ice Climbers, or R.O.B., or anyone else not being revealed.
I'm not so sure my brain is identifying the pattern...but perhaps I am hoping against hope that they strengthen him as a character again. He was amazing in Melee and terrible in Brawl.

Nah, brah, this is Comic Con, gotta bring the big guns

Darkwing Duck

Ultimate reveal: a Smash cardboard box starts flailing around on the battlefield in front of the other fighters... cue Ridley tearing out of it.

The stinger at the end has Anthony Higgs on Pyrosphere wondering where all the enemies are. Cue Snake getting the drop on him.

Anthony Higgs could work as a decent icy halfway point between Snake and Samus.

That's where I'm trying to keep myself as well. I'm not expecting a character reveal at all, let alone Snake. I'm really not expecting him until August.

But if for some crazy reason the gods reveal him, something in my apartment is getting broken out of hype.

If we dont get a veteran reveal tonight than I hope we get to see some of the Kalos League just to round off this week with another stage being shown.

This is Jiggly Approved.

I stand by that Snake, after or alongside Mewtwo, is the most solid choice for a DLC character. Not only is he incredibly popular, but his inclusion would bring a lot more content with him because he represents a new property into the game. You could easily see Nintendo and consumers mutually agreeing Snake and MGS content would be worth paying for.

I'm telling you, Snake's going to be the final DLC character.

I can get behind this. Cant wait to see the Chorus Kids "steal the show".

As in "Heathcliff"
to celebrate new thread, so I will present the rumor from Smashboards. The source is JohnKnight1 and TheThirdKoopa. I got rid of all opinions, so people wouldn't get confused with facts and opinions.

Take it with grain of salts

I have a source dating back from before Brawl came out that leaked me small tidbits like that.

A week before Brawl came out, we knew the entire roster and stage list, sans 1 stage. That 1 stage was a "Donkey Kong stage" and none of the leakers had unlocked it or known it or even played on it. Everyone on SWF back in the day speculated what this stage was, without knowing it.

Well, this source had a source in the gaming industry who worked on Brawl who knew: it was 75M. They told me, and they were right where no one else was right.

No one knew it outside of me, this person, anyone else this person informed, and this person's source. No, they didn't know until roughly 4 days after Brawl came out in Japan, lol.

It also helps with these leaks that they're a friend to me. Most people don't realize that about this person, lol.

So far the same person (or source) has had various people involved in development leak them the following things (this is the tl;dr version):
-Smash 4 has a HUGE advertising/promotional budget.
-Sakurai and co. likely began considerable planning for Smash 4 after Brawl came out.
-Planning for pre-production began at latest in 2010.
-Smash 4's pre-production team did a GODLIKE JOB and did better than anyone could have hoped.
-Smash 4's pre-prouduction began possibly in late 2010 but probably in 2011. That means development for Smash 4 has been about 3 1/2 years as of right now.
-Smash 4's pre-production was roughly a year, or 4 times as long as 64's, Melee's, and Brawl's pre-production (all those games had roughly 3 months of pre-production).
-Pre-production heavily involved all the directors not at Bamco as well as top Nintendo heads. This includes Sakurai and Miyamoto, and probably Iwata as well.
-Sakurai claims he wasn't fully working and programming the game until the end of pre-production in around January-March of 2012. However, he clearly was doing a lot of non-programming things during pre-production.
-Smash 4's roster was likely mostly finished early this year.
-Smash 3DS back earlier this year (2014) was said to be "going gold" sometime shortly after E3 this year.
-Smash 3DS can't be released after 2014 because the team "can't afford it."
-Until we're a bit under a month until Smash 3DS is supposed to come out, we won't know for sure about Smash 3DS, and until say October, we won't know for sure with Smash WiiU.
-Smash WiiU could very well be delayed into 2015 if the development team are going to do a lot of balancing and gameplay changes in response to fan reactions to the game and characters and how everything felt.
-The Bandai Namco staff working on Smash 4 is from all parts of Bamco.
-The Game Arts staff that worked on Brawl that Sakurai and co. liked basically all got hired to be a part of Sora.
-There is basically no part-time staff. The only part-time staff were head Nintendo honchos during pre-production, some staff that may be switching over to Tekken 7, and the staff dedicated to DLC.
-DLC, specifically DLC characters and patching, is definitely happening.

As for the roster... yeah. I got a bit more information on stuff related to the roster that isn't the roster...
-Pre-production starting earlier, being more organized, and going so well is likely why the roster and a lot of the game was finished early.
-The work schedule is light for everyone. No one has been in overtime or working overtime, at least not yet. They might start doing that or might have just started doing that right about now.
-Smash 3DS was, according to an outside source, rumored to be "nearing the process going gold" early this year, with the set time as sometime a bit after E3.

Haven't heard anything about DLC being planned early, but sometime from 2012-2013 it definitely became getting a rough draft planning of some sort. I think if they're smart, they'll take some time to plan further.

More miscellaneous information:
-Melee's advertising/promotional budget was in the mid-6 digit numbers. It actually had less of a television advertising budget than Smash 64. If not for the demos, the Melee marketing budget would be less than 64's budget. (This was a common issue with the GCN; no advertising)
-Brawl's advertising/promotion budget was only roughly $1 million.
-Conversely, Smash 4's advertising/promotion budget is at least $23.5 million, including promotional events (The Invitationals, demos, advertising, the trailers, and just in general getting the game out there).
-Melee and Brawl both had about 3 months of pre-production.
-Bandai Namco wasn't fully on board until likely late 2011 or early 2012
-Smash WiiU will likely get delayed into 2014 if they change a lot of things related to programming and overall character design for multiple characters from the demos.
-The Namco staff involved are from all kinds of games and parts of Bandai Namco to develop Smash 4. It's like a trail mix of the whole company, lol.
-Sakurai removed around 4 people at Sora and HAL Laboratories from developing Smash 4 because they refused to work on the SSE. Sakurai was later convinced by EVERYONE it was a bad idea. It is likely there was never any work on the SSE. As for those staff members, it is unknown if they were re-added later on.
-Since then Sakurai has been pretty laid back and very open to opinions. He hasn't gone full dictator mode like he did with Brawl in 2007 and 200 when crap went down when they added Sonic and cut a huge chunk of the SSE. Of course his staff is more competent at making a Smash Bros. game than the primarily JRPG staff he had at Game Arts.

More miscellaneous leak stuff:
-The workload is minimal given the huge full-time staff and excellent work done in pre-production.
-With Melee and Brawl everything was always overtime after the first few months, especially Melee. A few employees lived at the office for weeks during Melee's development, including Sakurai himself. Many of the Melee development team members at this time worked at different hours throughout the 24 hours days.
-This, ironically, is where in Melee's development that characters like Falco and Pikachu became truly exceptionally built. Also, EXTRA clones got into Melee because after the initial 21 characters were finished, Falco, Ganondorf, Pichu, and Dr. Mario were added. That situation could be repeated.
-With Smash 4's development, the only time people might be working overtime or anything close to overtime is from now until when Smash WiiU goes gold. Heck, it might stop when Smash 3DS goes gold, and they could "ease" their way into Smash WiiU.

Also, based on what was said about Chrom and Robin, my source, one of their former sources for smash information, and myself all agree that those 2 characters were originally planned to BOTH be newcomers, not one vs. the other.

Also non-leak information that are just miscellaneous information details:
-Smash 4 only has 3 full-time companies involved known, according to said source (HAL Laboratories, Bandai Namco, and Sora). My source doesn't know of any company directly involved with development, lol.
-Capcom and SEGA have provided some content related to their franchises (similar to what SEGA and Konami did in Brawl). Also, since we got the Rayman trophy, we now know the same is true of Ubisoft to an unknown extent.
-Also, Nintendo EAD Team 3, known for their Zelda titles, submitted the Toon Link model from the Wind Waker HD for Smash 4. This is funny, since the only Brawl model they didn't give for Brawl's production was Toon Link, as he was the only character not using his Twilight Princess appearance.

Anyways, that's all the leak stuff I have. That's literally everything.

Sakurai said that it was planned and then later cut because he (and his fellow producers and his staff) found Chrom boring.

They thought it was more of an "expected character" than a "wanted character", so they just scrapped it and probably focused on other projects. To be honest, their opinion was pretty much the same as the smash fanbases' opinion towards Chrom as a playable character.

But seriously SmashGAF i don't think that anybody will miss Brawl's Ganondorf Moveset.

if we at least can get Melee's Ganondorf back i will be happy

I really liked all the stylistic changes to Brawl Ganondorf. Just not how they performed. Melee Ganondorf enrages me because he's such a direct rip of Falcon with no flare of Ganondorf's personality. Brawl Ganondorf at least seems like Ganondorf.

Although he feels like a Ganondorf who left his backpack on the bus and doesn't have any supplies for the camping trip. So he has to punch and kick and act like he MEANT to be unprepared.

Well, Brawl's unlockable line up was mostly veterans. I guess the same thing will happen here, unless there are more clones...

lol

Higgs could also showcase parts of the Metroid sandbox that Samus doesn't already show off as part of her default moveset, for example the Ice Beam, Ice Missiles, Wave Beam, etc.

I still think it's ridiculous Samus's final smash isn't her getting her Fully Powered Suit with continuous Screw Attack, Space Jump, Plasma / Spazer / Wave / Ice / Long / Charge Beam, etc.

another tidbit

With Brawl, according to sources @thethirdkoopa has (note: don't apply this to Smash 4), the SSE killed production of a ton of characters.

Like, a ton.

And according to them, the last "cuts" to make the roster a full 38 characters (Sonic was added in 2007, and this was in 2005) were...
Roy: They found him boring. He was cut sometime in mid-2005 or some time around then.
Mewtwo: They wanted to partially remake him. They had programming issues with this and was kind of glitchy. So, they cut him sometime in late 2005 or early 2006. He was much further in development than Roy though.

So yes, it was the SSE that cut those 2, and a lot of other character (ideas) then.

Don't expect something like that to happen again.

There will be no equivalent situation to that again.

The newest Smash trailer begins. Previously announced characters fight on the battlefield as a familiar box inches closer. Mario turns around with an exclamation point over his head. He won't be fooled again, he knows exactly who's inside that box!

He breaks it open and reveals...Rattle from Snake Rattle 'n' Roll.
