Most aesthetically appealing console of all time?

My choices:

1. PC Engine: Don't forget this was a 1980's console, to hold one in your hands back then was like holding the future. The almost impossibly compact design and the immense power contained within were almost Tardis like.

2. Wii vert: Much maligned for lacking power, but at least it did so looking like a super slick compactly designed device and not a pregnant George Foreman grill (can never be unseen.)

3. Gameboy original: A design classic right out of the blocks, compact, durable, reliable and somehow friendly, another 80's iconic design.

4. Panasonic Cube: Chrome isn't for everyone, but if you dig it, this evolution of the classic Gamecube design is a beautiful piece of work.

5. Wii U vert: Someone said that Xbox One is the only current console that doesn't look like a toy, lies. Wii U in black is a subtly designed and unassuming device that could quite as easily be an external HD, such is its understated and tasteful design.

Don't see any pics of the PSP GO posted yet. While perhaps not my absolute favorite, it manages to pack so much awesome inside its tiny frame while still being damn fine looking. To me, it's Sony's GBA Micro.

PSP Go is a beautiful and severely underrated system. IMO it was the first truely portable console (ie: fits in your pocket with no excess bulk). After handling a Vita though it lost a bit if it's awesomeness in terms if build quality. Still it's an amazing little system.

I'm quite fond of the white Japanese fat PS3.

Durable as hell, too. Picked this up in Japan in 2007 and never had a single problem with it.

I'm partial to the Megadrive (PAL Genesis), maybe it's because it's the first console I bought with my own money, but I find it slick, not too gimmicky nor too bland.

The latest revision of the PS2 Slim. SCPH 90000

Have that one standing at home. Looks classy.

I love this one as they finally got rid of the ugly ribbing that ruins all the other PS2 models. Sadly I have the previous slim design that still has the ribs.

Wasn't a fan of the PS4 in pictures, but it's growing on me now I have one personally. Still think it'd look a thousand times better if it didn't have that slanted parallelogram front/back, though. Just make it square and boxy and I'd love it.

XB1 is great, albeit a little on the large side (although it's only marginally bigger than the old PS3 phat...). If they keep the same design cues for the inevitable slim version, it'll be gorgeous. The redesigned 360 slim that matches it is pretty nice, too. Seriously tempted to replace my old 360 (one of the ones with the less RROD-prone guts in the original case design) with one of those at some point.

I would have to agree with those saying the Wii and WiiU. Personally I think they were a huge improvement over the aesthetics of the old Nintendo consoles.

I love threads like these. Always good to see such a wide rage of consoles on display. Always cool to see that a console I personally think looks pretty bad, has someone else who loves the look of it.

For me it's a toss up between the White PS4 or the Black Wii. Something about Black electronics with blue lights just gets me going. It was always my complaint about the Black 360s that never changed from the green light.

Speaking of which, anyone knows what was Nintendo's fascination with indigo? The only console of that era that didnt debut with Indigo was the N64

Did they market test is as positive? or was it just a market differentiation thing? Super odd to go with that specific color???

Most companies have trademark colors. This is Nintendo's. And the reason they picked purple is because... It's Miyamoto's favorite color.

Vertical Wii with that lit up blue disc tray strip, especially the black version. So sexy.

Yes. Best looking.

DS Lite was also great looking too.

Side-note: the Original 360 design was fucking ugly. I don't know who designed that thing but it's terrible 360 Slim is pretty good looking though.

I think I'd have to go with the PS4. Xbox One is not bad looking, but the PS4 is a little more sleek with the angles.

I will admit, that black vertical Wii posted on the first page is pretty good looking as well.

Most of the older consoles look pretty dated to me so, while I have nostalgia for them, it's hard to say they are attractive.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
I know everyone hates the PS3 Super Slim (and I agree the base model looks a bit cheap) but I prefer top loaders for several reasons, and I went out of my way and paid a bit more to get the White Super Slim. I personally think it looks gorgeous, what a difference a color can make sometimes:

Wii in the vertical stand, the PS3 slim, and the PS2 slim all looked really nice to me.

Honestly, the PS4 is no slouch either. I can't wait to see the white one in person.

This sexy beast right here. Too bad it's just a demo 3DS LL, and we'll probably never see a retail version of it.

I gotta say. Almost everyone is wrong.... except me.. and anyone posting PSOnes and Super Famicoms.. fo' sure.

The new consoles look ridiculous. Half matte, half gloss, all over the place. Makes no sense, and they're just huge black bricks... The trapezoid with a line through it is worse though. Wii looks alright but has no character. Same for Wii U.

Any system with an inexplicable grill of dust catching ravines is an ugly abomination.

It has to be smooth (not glossy, just not filled with stupid indentations all over it).. Slick. Have character... be charming.. Represent it's purpose, and not take up an entire shelf.. Colors are also nice....

I'm not saying I'm right.. but... You're all wrong..
