Is there a Next-Gen game you're afraid will be bad?

*current-gen

And are we classifying current-gen games as being new-console exclusive and not cross-gen? Because if so OP, MGSV is not classified as a current-gen game.

I sometimes feel that the fate of console RPGs is dependent on FFXV, and although I'm not a huge fan of the FF series (nor do I like the action direction they are taking with this one), I'm still hoping it comes out awesome and does really well for itself so it can usher in a new age of console RPGs. Hate to see my favorite genre go cellphone only...

Add me to the final fantasy tally.

Also ground zeros cover mechanics, aka lack of being able to properly stay in cover or hugging a wall etc like you could in the previous games has made me worry mgsv will be bad, or at least too much of a change gameplay wise!

You make a great point.

After that E3 demo, the combat looked lame and boring. I'm afraid its going to be a Skyrim 2.0 ( amazing world to explore with bad combat)

Also I have my doubts with Evil Within. I want to love it but I just can't at the moment.

I agree with both.

Rainbow Six: Siege.

Reason: Ubisoft will always ubisoft.

I'm worried about this one too, I don't know if it will live up to the previous titles. And based on the development hell this next iteration of the series has gone though, it doesn't instill too much confidence. Although, it didn't look too bad on the twitch stream they did not that long ago. This one is definitely a wait and see for me, as stuff that was in the e3 demo was already gone from the live twitch demo as far as the destructibility and fidelity.

Dragon Age: Inquisition, FFXV, and KH3 all come to mind at this point. DA because of shit mountain and the other two because of SE.

Piggy-backing off of Inquisition, I'd say anything being published by EA. I know they've taken a harder stance on making sure their games work right out of the gate, but I still worry that some of the IPs I am looking forward to will be handicapped in some what to make them more appealing to a wider audience. And we all know how well that worked out with Dead Space 3.

I've already accepted the fact that the combat in The Witcher 3 is going to be as bad as the previous games.

it's a cross gen game sure, and horror games tend to demo badly in public no problem...
but still can't shake off the feeling that it's gona bomb after all the footage I've seen...
plz be good!

Ratchet and Clank Redux
~ Worried it might just be a little side project whilst Insominiac's A team works on Sunset Overdrive

It probably will be. They just released it in the HD collection not that long ago and I see pretty much no reason to go back and make that game all over again. What from there? A new game jumping way into the future (which will be jarring to those getting into the series from the remake) or a remake of Going Commando? Doesn't make sense. It's probably just to garner interest for the movie and will be slap dash in my opinion.

My personal one is Doom. But from what I have read about the Quake-con game play I will be cautiously optimistic.

Final Fantasy XV and Black Tusks Gears of War. One, I don't have much faith in SE anymore, even though I'm super hyped for XV, and the new Gears because it's from a studio that has never made a properly released game before, and before the name change, only partially worked on a flight Sim, and Kinect game. Both are among my fave franchises.

I'm going to echo the sentiments here on Evil Within. There aren't that many games coming out soon that I want, and most of them I can safely assume will be really good.

Evil Within I could see going either way. On the one hand, It's Mikami! REmake, RE4, God Hand, Vanquish, and Shadows of the Damned (which he didn't direct but assisted on) are all some of my favorite games ever made. The man seems incapable of making a mediocre game. But at the same time, the previews seem relatively lukewarm. It's also been a long time since Mikami created a straight horror game.

I wouldn't be surprised for it to be a GOTY contender, but I also fear it might be mediocre and forgettable. We'll see.

Mass Effect multiplayer. I'm worried it'll be more inclined towards microtransactions, and that they'll make the maps too big now that they've got more hardware resources to take advantage of, or otherwise change the gameplay mechanics too much.

I worry that MGS5 is really going to suffer from open world bloat and pacing issues and it'll be missing its trademark boss battles.

Really hope Mass Effect turns out good after ME3 though and the Omega DLC I still worry if they know what made the series great in the first place.

Sunset Overdrive: I really really really want to like this game. I love the colourful open world, the tongue-in-cheek comedy, and the Tony hawk meets dead rising style of gameplay but I just can't seem to get very excited about it.

I really hope it's amazing because I think those guys over at insomniac are fantastic and I really hope it delivers but I just feel like maybe it will be one of those open world games that will get repetitive and boring fairly quickly.

I'm probably still going to buy it anyways so I hope I'm wrong but I just have this bad feeling that this game won't turn out like I hoped.

The Evil Within

I just finished Shadows of the Damned. What a horrible game. Good potentiel ruined by juvenile humor, horrible design and poor controls. I have no more faith in Shinji Mikami (he was creative director on Shadows), he STILL seems stuck in the RE4 era.

Destiny -

Halo was great, a masterpiece even... With some minor flaws like the library.

Halo 2 was a great game but the story was horrid and the arbiter was annoying to use.

Halo 3 tried to correct halo 2 mistakes by being master chief full time which obviously hampered the story they wanted to tell (or they were making it up as they went along). I didn't even finish halo 3.

So I don't know how long they've spent with destiny but 5 years of work, it will be pretty disappointing if they don't come up with something decent. Plus it's cross gen it probably won't push the current gen systems very much and I can't see anyone want to buy the previous gen versions.

Your standards must be low. The first levels of Shadows are interesting, then it delves into stupid territory with horrible design.

Thanks for being reasonable. The amount of "JRPG fans" I've seen waiting with bated breath for the failure of this game is downright depressing. Aside from the fact that it's been my most hyped game since 2006, I really want it to do well, so Japanese pubs can be like, "oh hey, new consoles are kinda sorta viable for big JRPGs".

Xenoblade on the Wii U. I love the first game so much that if this one sucks I might jump off the window. I live on the 4th floor, so there's a remote chance I'll survive.

I'm already prepared to find that it does not match the first one, but nevertheless I'm expecting it to be very good considering what has been shown so far, notably the battle system that has more depth than Xenoblade Chronicles.

Omg thank you. People get telling me the game mechanics were solid but I swear the cover system was terrible

The Order. Has looked a bit bland, and delays can be worrisome.

Coming from being a mainly 360 gamer last gen, the one thing Sony still lacks is a good Gears of War substitute. Uncharted is too different in tone etc., though great in its own right.

Destiny. I want it to pull me in like Halo did. I want to feel like I can completely ignore my mission and go explore the world—get to hard to reach places, find interesting shortcuts, travel outside the map.

So far, going by the gameplay footage... eh. I'll give it a chance when I get a PS4 though.

Everyone's afraid to say it, but Smash 4.

I still remember Brawl.

And for people who have played it, remember that he could still change his mind before the release and use a completely different build.

I'm sure it will be good, but I'm still nervous.

I nearly said ME, but this time my expectations are going to be super low after my heart got ripped out of my chest, stopped on, set on fire and the ashes snorted.

Basically every game, I'm afraid devs will never try new interesting gameplay and simply strive for better graphics with the next gen. Nothing so far seems to be the next generation of gaming.

Don't know if it counts as a next-gen or cross gen game, but the Evil Within is the game I'm most worried about. I really want Mikami's next game to be good, but most previews don't give a nice impression.

I'm already reserved to the fact that Smash 4 will most likely play far more like Brawl than Melee since I believe it's using a similar physics engine? (anyone with source?). The roster looks great tho, so I'll probably get it down the line.

The Witcher 3
- The combat from E3 looks like garbage compared to games like Dragon's Dogma. (admittedly that game has ruined me for open-world RPG's)

Sunset Overdrive
- It's Insomniac making a shooter. These usually don't go over all too well.

The Order 1886
- They showed little to no substance so far.

Batman Arkham Knight

pretty much the only game coming out for the HDX Twins that I'm excited about, or at least the only one capable of making me buy one. it really seems like they're doubling down on the open world aspects of Arkham City, which I did not enjoy at all. Asylum nailed everything and it seems they are only moving further away from what made that game great.

I'm actually really optimistic about Smash 4. it does look like it plays closer to Brawl but without the random elements. watching the SDCC footage of the game has me really hyped now because it basically looks like everything Brawl should have been and then some. I guess if you want the fast and furious gameplay of Melee you might be disappointed, and that's cool. I'm most excited about all of the different and unique play styles this game offers. watching Bill's different strategies for Rosalina is almost 100% why I'm not worried about the game anymore.

as a fan of SE's recent output but having just experienced kingdom hearts for the first time, final fantasy XV. KH is horrible and I'm hoping nomura and co. have learned a lot since then

Destiny. I really love the art and the plot but I'm not impressed with the graphics and the animations and I didn't see destruction, though I didn't play the beta and the game is cross-gen, not true next gen.
I really want to be super excited about the game but I'm so confused after the beta videos. :)

I'm not "afraid" DAI will be bad. It's already shaping up to be the ME3 of its series, so I'm almost considering cancelling the pre-order. I know I will be looking at user reviews rather than official reviews on metacritic, that's for sure.

One game I genuinely fear will break my heart is Arkham Knight. For one they don't have that Paul Dini guy on board who supervised and wrote much of the script for Arkham Asylum and Arkham City (screw the haters, City's plot is awesome even if it's jumbled and full of contrivances) but the tone of Knight so far has that awful dudebro appeal that dominated the likes of Mass Effect 3 and a lot of other trilogy endings too. It's too big in scope and it makes the entire conflict seem less believable and a lot of dramatic tension turns into melodrama and at the same time the game tries to impress you with its Michael Bay-esque explosions and destruction all the time.

I genuinely already dislike the Batmobile. If it's only 20% of the game I'm totally in for it, but if it's constantly there and you need to switch over to it every 5 minutes and then play world of tanks: batman edition all the time then the game might be ruined to me.

Wants to outlaw technological innovation.
Fable Legends-> This is not why I okay fable, what in the world would make you think an RPG series would do well with a new type of multiplayer. Sunset OverDrive-> Last good game Insomaniac made was A Crack in Time in 2009, looks like it could get old fast.
The Division-> As win most Ubisoft open-world games, their first tends to be average, and while it looks great, it needs to have fun gameplay as well.

Nailed it.

Though honestly, I think I've come to terms that it will probably be closer to Brawl anyway. Shouldn't be as bad as Brawl at all thankfully, but I don't think it'll be changed up too much from the way it is now, even if there is a completely revamped build.

Guess I've just reached the acceptance stage. :/

From day one I had a hunch KZ:SF was going to be terrible... Look how that turned out.

I haven't had skepticism like that for any upcoming releases. NHL 15, Sunset Overdrive, GTA5 remastered, MCC. All will be winners.

I don't doubt for a second that FFXV will be an insane mess of a story like FFXIII was, and likely keep it's linear gameplay. SE is a terrible company right now, and a lot of the people from its glory days are gone.

Of course I hope I'm 100% wrong and this game restores FF to its glory. I refuse to get hyped at all though for it.

I also think Destiny is being perfectly marketed but will drop off pretty quickly after a few months and will suffer Fable syndrome of promising too much. The Order 1886 looks extremely dull from a gameplay perspective. I don't understand TLG hype either as it's mostly vaporware at this point and why would a game in development hell be hype worthy?

I'm getting too jaded with age I guess. Or been burnt too many times..

The Witcher 3.
From the E3 demo, the combat doesn't seem very deep or interesting yet. And the combat animations are not up to the graphics.
The world seems brilliant and I want to explore it but if the combat is repetitive, I might skip it.
