7 months into the year. What's your GOTY so far?

Out of games that game out this year, I would have to say Mario Kart 8. Though for past games I've just picked up, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was pretty great for these summer months.

Have you played it? The game is easily one of the best this year.

Easily the best OST of the year too.

Massively open world game with a awesome battle system, and a ton of customization. In a lackluster year like this, few games really are as interesting as this one was and it deserves recognition.

This was the only game all year that I played where I was thankful I owned a strategy guide. Probably the only game the entire gen honestly.

Probably seems like an odd pick but for me it's Child of Light. I adored everything about that game.
Not odd it's probably in my 2nd spot for the year. Child of Light and Transistor both resonated a lot with me because art, and music, are just as important to me as gameplay when it's that damn good.

Mario Kart 8. Worth mentioning: Kero Blaster, Shovel Knight.

That being said, this month we get USFIV on PC :p

I honestly haven't played a whole lot of 2014 games, I've mostly been playing old backlog stuff.

That being said, I think my top three games would have to be (in no actual order):

  1. MK8
  2. inFAMOUS: Second Son
  3. Final Fantasy X HD Remaster

Divinity: Original Sin

I haven't finished it yet but I've already put roughly 100 hours into it and I believe I still have a lot of game left. Not to mention what I've played so far makes it one of the best RPGs in recent years. Everyone who can play it really needs to.

Before Divinity: Original Sin came out I would have said Might & Magic X - Legacy.

Have played so many good games this year.

Antichamber
TowerFall Ascension
The Cat Lady
Gykuten Kenji 2
Phoenix Wright 5
Dragon Quest V
Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light
Shovel Knight
SpeedRunners
and more I've forgotten...

It's hard to choose just one.

Still Dark Souls 2.
Sure it's not as good as the first one. But to me even on a bad day Dark Souls is better than every other game released this year.
Runner up would have to be DK: Tropical Freeze

As for the rest of the year. The only games that I see with a chance of taking the spot are Dragon Age, Destiny or Bayonetta 2

PS: Honorable mention for The Wonderful 101 which I got to play earlier this year. Had it been released in 2014 it would easily be my Goty

Wolfenstein. Incredible game.

Runner up would probably be...

Watch Dogs.

It's not perfect, but it's a damn enjoyable game with a fantastically realised city.

Probably Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The game looks amazing in motion, play great, and it has an amazing soundtrack. Can't really ask for much more.

Same here. I didn't realize how awesome it was until I bought it. I already was interested because DKC has always been a much more difficult 2D platforming game compared to the NSMB series, plus based David Wise and his awesome soundtrack.

Seriously, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is my GOTY so far. It's unbelievable how good the game is. Rent it, buy it, do whatever it takes to play this game from start to finish. It's so goddamn good and worth a playthrough.

Wolfenstein.

Still have yet to play Divinity though, and Pillars of Eternity isn't out yet.
Hoping for Serious Sam 4 to be a surprise hit of the year.

ODDWORLD: New N' Tasty.

Guys TLoU:R doesn't count unless it's your first playthrough, it's a remaster and not a huge one in terms of improvements.

If DKC: TF is the best 2D platformer ever, Strider is in the running for best 2D action game ever in my opinion.

No one even talks about it, but it's that good.
