Mod the Dualshock 4 with Xbox One analog sticks

I've been loving mine since I put them on a few months ago. They're way better for FPS, I find, except that I seem to be clicking in the right stick when in close quarters leading to an unwanted melee. The extra height must cause that, but its a small price to pay for the accuracy and durability!

Personally, I would suggest these thumb grips. The concave ones fit snug and work really great.

Nice. If my Grip-It's fail me, I'll try these out.

But I must say: getting those Grip-ITs back in November when there was a faint hint of problems with the quality of the PS4 sticks was the best decision I could have made at the time. The Grip-ITs have been fantastic and the "grippiness" of them became better over time as they wore in.

Yeah in the video you can see I am lifting it from the rumble motors then sort of putting a finger under the PCB. The entire thing comes out in one piece which is nice.

Just flipping the piece up to place the sticks on is when you have to be careful, so yea just being aware of the tiny wires is important.

get a bundle of them. no need to worry about worn sticks for a long time.

Where did you get them too? did they fit super tight when you put them on or did you have to muck with them?

Where are those orange ones from? Did they fit tight or need mucking?

they fit perfectly. I think the two companies have the same manufacturing process when it comes to certain things. the analog boxes and shaft sizes are the same.

Where did you get them? My ones off Ebay were horrible. Could you be exact on your source?

I forget the seller, but they were like $4 shipped from China. They fit perfect, they slid on the posts as smoothly as the stock ones came off. No need for filing or gluing or putting paper in the hole or anything.

Didn't really like the Xbox one's sticks. I just put some covers on the sticks.
just ordered the "grip it's" and if they don't feel right will attempt surguery on my controller...haha

*if I do is the changeout for the better battery easy as well? may as well do that if I have the thing open, right?

Yeah I got those things. They work pretty good.

Go with the KontrolFreek FPS Ultra - PS4.

I played both side by side on the Destiny Beta. You lose to much resistance, like playing the Xbox One controller. It's no different in resistance from the Xbox One controller, but on the PS4 you will be at a disadvantage as your precision will go down in FPS.

The Grips are a WIN/WIN and easier to install.

if you watch the first video there is a part where i mention taking out the battery is optional. Its just a wire but some people have put DS3 batteries in theirs but it needs a little tape.

Sounds much better, I'll try these. Thanks man.

This was discussed a lot in the "DS4 thumbsticks might have a problem...?" thread. Definitely a legit fix for DS4 thumbstick wear & tear. I have X1 sticks on the DS4 I use the most and they feel great. Cheap as hell and it's a fairly painless process to swap them in.

Things to watch out for when opening a DS4:

- Outer case is pretty tough to pry apart, you may up end breaking a tab while trying to get it to open. Breaking one shouldn't affect the closing part that much.

- Watch out for the reset button. Make sure you don't lose that.

- Trigger springs. Definitely make sure to not lose that. It may come flying off when you pry open your controller. Can be put back on.

THIS. Ugh...happened when I swapped out the batter for my DS3. -_-

luckily i was able to find it after searching for awhile

Would love to have better analog sticks but I don't know about switching to the xbox one sticks. I don't like them, I tried playing battlefield and titanfall with them, I had a tough time aiming, they were a little too loose. I'm going to wait for the new color ps4 controllers and see if there are any changes

Good point.

Anybody selling one with this mod?

It's an incredibly easy mod, I wouldn't do it unless they sell for the cost of the parts.

Some advice:

- if your sticks are grinding or sticking press them down harder. You shouldn't have to loosen the actual molding of the controller to get these to fit properly. Sometimes it's easy to just throw them on other times you have to put quite a bit of force on them.

- the sticks have an ever slight play to them as opposed to being tight. To alleviate that cut a very small piece of masking tape then place it on the top of the stub before sliding on the stick.

- don't rip off the back of the controller, you should get it open then pull down and lift over the triggers. If the triggers pop off it's not a big deal but you'll save time.

- don't use a small flat head screw driver to try and wedge the controller open. You don't need to, just keep working it until it opens. You'll mess up the controllers mold around the opening.

- a pair of small needle nose pliers will save some time and annoyances. The ribbon cable is much easier to connect with it than without. You can connect it fine, it just takes some time.

- the reset button will probably come out, when you put it in make sure you press it in as opposed to sitting it in it's respective place.

The DualShock 4 with these sticks is a huge improvement and I will never go back to anything else. I've got two controllers with these sticks and the increased range of movement is immediately noticeable in TLoU and Destiny. (FPS)

I tried several gel tabs and aftermarket stick covers (grip it) and they are terrible in comparison. They cost the same as these sticks and just become an annoyance more than anything else.

There are some specialty makers that mold PS3 style sticks that work specifically for the DualShock 4, and other custom designs. I'll have to try and find the website again.

To anyone thinking that the sticks are slippery, not high enough, have issues with the rubber, or are debating between covers or the sticks themselves.

Get the Sticks.

I would say the upgrade is worth it even if your sticks aren't having a problem. The control and the feel is just soooo much better with XBO sticks.

I say avoid. The resistance/accuracy is so much worse if your playing competitively. For solo play it's fine. You lose precision when switching.

Nothing worked on my end short of actually loosing the screw, but it didn't require much loosening and is securely mounted regardless.

Grip It covers are the best hands down!

I love Grip Its.
I get the resistance of a stock DS4 along with increased durability and grip.
Plus if you're in a hurry you can just walk into a store and get them right away.

My DS4 thumbsticks are fine (at the moment), I have ordered some rubber things to go on them after so many people raving about them.

Maybe i'll swap my sticks out completely later down the line.

I Mod both my Dualshock 4 controllers with Dualshock 3 silicon thumb Grips
and replace their batteries with 2000mAh for double power.

I did a fairly comprehensive review comparing the two stocks on the DS4 somewhere in the controller thread. I still much prefer the default sticks. They're more comfortable, precise and tight, but the Xbox One sticks are more grippy, and the looseness may benefit racing games.

Where can I get that battery? I need it!

I'm still thinking about changing my sticks. I might buy another controller and do it to that one.

Does anyone know where I can buy Xbox buttons for the DS4? I've found replacement buttons in solid colors, but I'm trying to find actual "ABXY" buttons. I want to customize a dedicated DS4 for PC and Xbone.

Also, could I get a link for that larger battery?
