Square Enix RPGs on sale on North American PSN

It's not bad on Vita with the fast loading option. But yeah... on PS3 it is AWWWWWFUUUUL!!!!

...does this fast loading option apply to FFVI as well? *hope*

Imo, 9 is not that good, and the graphics don't hold up well.

VI and X are the standout good titles. I think all of the PS1 entries have aged horribly, and if they don't have nostalgia for them, it is very hard to recommend them to someone.

I don't know. VII's graphics suck, but that first time you leave Midgar is pretty awesome.

Well to be fair it's super subjective. I personally loved FF9.

So I haven't played FFVII since like 1998 but I am interested in both Front Mission and P3P, I played an Eff ton of Fes.

Any advice? Does 7 age? Is it worth revisiting? How about vs front mission or p3p?

Fast loading option applies to all PS1 and PS2 games. As soon as you change loading options on the PS vita, gives you a warning that game may become unstable or something. Works OK with FF VI. Haven't tried it on Chrono Trigger yet

^Pretty sure it can be dled directly from Vita.

P3P is worth playing after FES for the Female MC plot. Front Mission 3 is pretty good too.

FF 8 or 9? I won't have much time to play it, but I'll be honest, I just want an easy FF game to play through. Which one should I get? Never played either before.

FF8 has an easy mode trick or some such. FF9 has good difficulty but some grinding makes it easy. Thing is FF9 has long ass battle intros and the combat is pretty slow.

LOL

i know everyone has different opinions but.... FFIX is maybe the best in the series

IX was a good Final Fantasy, but I wouldn't say it was great.

  • Battle Speed
  • Card Game
  • Quinna
  • Necron

All weaken it, imo.

You hatin' on Quina now bro?
Quina is boss- "Rally ho yourself"
Tetra Master was nice, and Necron, being the final boss, excuse him for being needlessly hard.

I played VI within the last few years and believe it has also aged horribly. I can't go back to random battles every 7 steps.

Just went back to 7 and finished it last week. Sure the graphics are outdated but as a game it still stands up well. The materia system is awesome and it's still a great story.

I picked up Final Fantasy VII. I'm going to get some more this weekend Not sure which ones yet. I was watching some videos of Front Mission 3 and that looks like a lot of fun. Can't believe I never played any of the games before. Definitely picking that up.

This sale has just reminded me that I still hate Square for not putting Crisis Core on PSN!! There is no doubt in my mind that we'll get some sort of remaster of the game on PS4 or something like that.

I've only played the PSP version, and if no one told me there was slowdown I wouldn't have noticed. It does move slower when casting spells and all, but it seems more a stylistic choice to cinematically show the spell's effect than anything else. I'm wondering how the game is actually meant to play now.

Here's an example of Holy being used on the PSone version and PSP version. That spell does a pretty good job of showing the faults of the PSP version, but it's not just Holy. Practically every spell and ability is crippled in the same way.

I've never once made it to the end of Chrono Trigger. Is it worth bothering with Chrono Cross?

I know they don't exactly follow, but is it a game that grabs you for the duration?

it sure as hell grabbed me, I really love that game and completely disagree with all the people that bash it. then again sign me up as one of the FF8 lovers.

of this whole sale i'm only missing (on PSN) Front Mission 3 & FF3. I feel like I'd rather FF3 on Steam, but that gap in the FF series on my Vita is worth $10 to fix right? RIGHT?

Question. I bought the FFX/X-2 remaster, Vita version. However, it looks as though it only downloaded FFX. I didn't see any options to start playing X-2 listed in the menu, nor is there an X-2 icon anywhere on my Vita. Is it available later on or is it a separate download? I didn't see it listed separately in the store.

FF X-2 is a separate download. Check your download list and it should be there. It does not have a separate location in the store.

WARNING: it is also 3.6 gb

FFIII and IV, yay or nay? I have most of the other FFs and want to round out the collection-- 9.99 seems a little steep though.

It's a pretty polarizing game and not that similar to Trigger really. It has an amazing soundtrack. No time travel mechanics. Zany, over the top colorful design. Some people loved it. I did not. I think it's worth $5.00 though-- it won't get much cheaper than that.

Really debating the FF X on Vita, I just missed the $19.99 sale on Amazon a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure why but I kinda of want the physical version (even though its only FFX) mainly due to storage problems.

Other than FFXHD, I'm debating if I should pick up FFIV Complete, the only other version that I have played is the GBA version. Does FFIV Complete have any slowdown issues? Is it worth picking up if I already have it on GBA?

Front mission 3 is glorious on Vita. It was one of those games I always intended to pick up on PsOne one day but never did.

This sale was a great excuse to get a copy for $2.99, which is a bargain.

Chrono Cross will be a replay for me as will FFVIII

Care to say something about it? People here seem to hold it in pretty high esteem and I've never heard about it. Or at least I can't remember.

III was too hard for me on the DS. The new visuals were nice, but it had an unforgiving difficulty with some very old school design (lack of save points in the last dungeon, for one).

IV is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games, and the new sprites and art look fantastic. It's a winner, and you get the downloadable WiiWare After Years as part of the package which was serviceable, and an exclusive new chapter.

I recommend The Complete Collection wholeheartedly, for sure!

Feel free to post a public rant with my name attached if I have led you astray, though!

I think if anyone is interested in this sale to go ahead and pick up Front Mission 3. I've owned the hard copy, which I sold at a good price once the digital version came out. I'd buy it again if I could.

I'm shocked no one picked up Lightning Returns, second thought, no I'm not.

I did get a digital version of FFT WotL since I own the original black labeled version.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?

No? It's just barely not nativ-res. I don't know dude, it's a turn based RPG. You shouldn't pass or go based on FPS. At least in this case. Actually, I'm not your mom. Do whatever.

FFX HD Vita is below nativ-res with some form of AA (wasteful in my opinion but whatever). FFX HD PS3 is 1080p no AA or 720p with AA.

Umm I like 60fps games. It looks better in every way. I was wondering if it was or not, I already bought it. Turn based RPGs have as many animations and movements as any other games. That looks better at 60fps.

Question : Did you already start playing? I'm just being silly incase you started playing but asked if it was 60fps anyway.

It's not reaction based but I think the UI works better when stuff runs at 60. Wonder if they could do that...

Awesome - I was waiting for a Square sale - they happen every couple of months it seems. Im going to finish my old school Final Fantasy Collection. PS3 is officially a Metal Gear, BluRay, and Final Fantasy player for me.

What is it? I know literally nothing about the series, other than that it involves mechs. Lots of love for it in this thread. What's good about it? How does it play? I'm curious.

Picked up FFIV Complete Collection. Never played the After Years stuff, and been thinking about replaying IV for some time. Put a couple of hours in already, and I'm in love with the game again.

Wow, talk about late in the game. This thread was popping. I just picked up a Vita Slim just last week and fell in love with it. I got Persona 4: Golden, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Borderlands 2.

Now that I saw this thread. I can finally add all the Final Fantasy's to my collection, digitally!!

IN! Final Fantasy 1-10 and Front Mission 3 is being bought.

I want to get Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and Persona series. They are $5 a piece also.

so uh, this has definitely been asked a million times but i'm gonna go ahead and ask again anyway

I already own FFVII and FFIX, and I just bought FFT War of the Lions, but are the other games recommended? I've heard bad things about the PS1 Versions of FFV and VI (and Chrono Trigger), and just bad things about VIII in general. I already have FF-X HD so that's covered. Is Chrono Cross good? I haven't played Chrono Trigger yet. Overall should I bite the bullet on any of these or not?
