I'vr never understood this. What did Snake do to bump Brawl up to a T rating at all? Just....being Snake?

Snake's realistic looking weapons and certain extreme looking elements like his grab. So basically, yeah.

Otherwise it's not like it was a huge departure from SSBM in terms of the way the cartoon violence was depicted. Certain content descriptors for the ESRB changed between SSBB and SSBM but the latter probably would've been labeled as E10+ had the rating existed. Snake is the biggest departure between the two at that point.

But this is all just conjecture on my part. I don't think this thing is real in any way and maybe they've reconciled something about Snake so that he's still in Smash 4 without bumping up the rating in the event he ever did. I don't actually have any insight on how Smash got rated.

Also... what blood on master hand? All I remember are the holes from being a ripped glove.

So if Wolf, Lucas, Ice Climber, Snake and Chorus Men are indeed DLC, where do you think they'd put on the screen? I'm guessing Chorus Men would go next to Shulk, and Snake would be squeezed next to Random alongside the other guest characters. Lucas would probably go under Ness, and Wolf under Fox to the left of Ness. Ice Climbers would then go under ROB (the NES corner).

I think the theory is (I stress the word theory) that in the event Lucas/Wolf are cut, it's not because Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina were prioritized over them. It's because those three characters would already, essentially, have their model created and based off of existing character's skeletons. The theory is that Dr. Mario and Dark Pit were originally alt costumes and then promoted to actual characters (much like Lucina) because of how much less work would be involved to make them work vs. having to recreate Lucas and Wolf (as it was, Sakurai already admitted a year or two ago that creating veteran characters is not simply porting the character over -- it's equivalent to making a new character, or at least the same amount of work).

The truth of the matter is, none of the vets are just "ported" over. Yes, all their attacks and everything exist already so the conceptual phase is completely cut out for veterans but animating, programming, and modeling are still very much things the development team have to do. I really doubt they're reusing the exact same files as Brawl for characters (as in the .pacs and everything else). They might have started from Brawl's foundation (the engine) but reusing character files sounds like a generally bad idea if you want to go back and change the characters in any way. Especially because Brawl's character coding is so rooted in a bunch of ASM, routines, reference points, and goes through all these other files in the game.

In fact, there's reason to believe that because Brawl doesn't share the same file types as Melee's character files if I recall. So, even with Brawl for Melee vets they redid them completely from scratch (in a sense). This is even more evident because Melee's animation files are .dae and not what Brawl uses (which are .cr0? I think?)

Anyway, the point is... while it would be logical to make the characters future-proof for changing and easy-to-port to a future game it doesn't work that way.

^Quoting for new page. I think it's important to understand, when discussing this stuff, that characters in previous games aren't just "ported over" easily and you shouldn't be making an assumption that the characters are built to be ready to be inserted into future sequels in order to be "ported over".

I don't believe the DLC part of the "leak" tbh. Snake as DLC is too weird.
Snake as DLC would explain him not being on the packaging. It'd also be a hell of a DLC hook, and a great promo tie-in for MGSV next year, not unlike how Snake in Brawl promoted MGS4, which came out months later.

The day a pic has a convincing action shot of a character(s) on a new stage or unique stage angle, I'll believe it. Not menus and not Palutena standing there doing nothing.

Alright, since fake leak hype went down.

24 MORE DAYS!

A little suspicious how the fake leak went live exactly 2 weeks and 10 days before the game. There are also exactly 10 newcomers revealed so far, not counting Miis (since they aren't playable in realistic online modes anyhow). For each newcomer the leak will probably show us one more entire page of characters.

You know what is going to be bizarre?

I'm sure this is fake, but if we get this many characters to fit in one top screen on a 3DS XL, the select screen is going to be annoyingly small for us OG 3DS owners.

Not at all. That's definitely what's bothering me the most, but hell, let's go down the list:

- No Chorus Kids
- Bowser Jr., meh
- Dr. Mario gets his own slot
- Ice Climbers cut
- Wolf cut
- Lucas cut
I definitely agree with all those (though, clown car Bowser Jr actually sounds interesting me), but I'd still be pleased overall when we add in all the great newcomers we'e already gotten.

Guys, the DLC is not part of the same leak.

I messed up, I apologize, but it wasn't the same poster. The one posting the leak was an Anon, the guy making the DLC statement had a username.

I remember not being sure which it was for a while and leaning towards holes, but recently replayed SSE and was really surprised when it definitely looked like blood.

sse was silly

Uh... huh. I definitely do not remember it looking that way at all.

Though I don't think something resembling blood on a disembodied hand is actually enough to bump up a rating all on its own. Either way, SSE was silly.

If this is the final roster, my big problems with it are:
-Bowser Jr. in over K Rool or Ridley
-DK only having two reps
-Kid Icarus getting three reps while other, bigger series have two, even if one of them is a clone
-Lucas, Wolf, Ivysaur, and Snake being cut.
-Duck Hunt Dog being in
-Roy not returning despite being arguably just as easy to bring back as Dr. Mario

If this is real, the character select screen is shocking. Such an odd and unattractive shape. Perhaps there are unlocks left? Why assume the entire cast is available?
