Knights of Sidonia (Spoilers)
Just finished the first 12 episodes on Netflix.

I really disliked it during the first couple episodes and found the character very unlikable. But right around the time Sidonia had to accelerate on an angle and the g forces resulted in people splattering on the side of the ship, I began to really enjoy the show.

While the characters are bland, the back story and take on a post-Earth generation ship was very interesting. By the end of it, I was even starting to like the characters too.

I don't get the hate for the visuals though--I thought they were very good. The battle between the main character dude and the evil girlfriend mech was visually spectacular.

Hopefully they continue the show and Netflix gets the second season.

A 2nd season was already announced, so more is coming.

Subtletly is the outlier though. I don't care but the amount of shows that use the easy technique of getting the audience sad by having a really emotional song in the background is amazing.

The notion of what is and what isn't 'cheap' emotional manipulation (e.g. unearned attempts to make the audience care about a character) is clearly pretty subjective. I happen to find the abuse of music pretty high up there, myself, in terms of 'cheapness'.

So what did people here think of Speed Grapher?

Great OP, solid designs, interesting premise, lots of potential, really half-assed production effort by Gonzo which made a lot of the fights in the latter part of the series disappointing and underwhelming.

Calling it now,
Sabbaku is Yuri's father. Something happened to him causing him to turn evil. But why he would go as far as to clone(?) his own daughter is a gap I can't fill yet.

Once again, Dark Precure wins due to her eye hax. If she didn't have that then maybe Tsubomi and Erika had a small chance to win.

I must say, this is a great way to start a second season.

Oh,
he lives. This is the butcher's show, right?

Well, that was certainly hype. But I think I'm done for the night. Until later!

Aldnoah.Zero 08

Everybody hates Slaine.
How did he end up in Martian hands?
I can see this ending badly for him. It's Sayaka all over again.
Inaho couldn't be assed to pick Slaine up so the Martians tracked down the stolen ship. It's really dumb since they could've interrogated him instead.

So, in other words, :Gonzo

Aldnoah.Zero 8

Why exactly is
Saazbaum so insistent on keeping Slaine alive? It'd seem more sensible to have him killed to keep the truth squashed so that he doesn't have to kill his own subordinates like this. Why does he encourage Cruhteo to interrogate him when there is the likelihood of Slaine revealing the plot?
Is this just poor writing?

The good part of Speed Grapher is the Masashi Ishihama OP. Everything else is garbage.

I hope that also includes the song itself.

Like Jexhius pointed out, it's to see the tears of people like me that tune in for only Slaine.

His punishment must be more severe.

Why do we care about Slaine? Or Sinon?

In these shows, having an inkling of an interesting character puts you above the rest immediately.
I don't really see anyone else to latch onto in Aldnoah at least.

He wants to know where the princess is, so he can kill her. Only Slaine knows right now, because all the adults in this show are too dumb to put very simple circumstantial evidence together and conclude the obvious.

Presented without context.

Urara is making her singing debut in a mall, and they made her write her own song? Dayum! They should have just made a series about Urara's poverty-tier #IdolStruggle.

I guess it's consistent that all the adults in this show are too stupid to put 2+2 together to figure out where she is.

That's why she's Dark Precure of the Sharigan

The stupidity and incompetency of the adults in the show is starting to make it more and more entertaining for me. It's almost like there's some brain virus that spread throughout Mars and Earth causing cognitive ability to completely break down after a person's teenage years. Lol.

It's starting to seem less likely that Inaho is actually talented, and more that the adults are attempting to insert square blocks into circular holes. You would think the sister of dandere fuck would be at least just as good as him. I'd be genuinely fine if they made it like a Sherlock comparison where he's a sociopath with a personality disorder and somehow this has made him smart, but everybody treats him like a regular joe.

And the only other adult in the team who isn't a stormtrooper side character is too 'Nam I Seent Some Shit to be useful too. I want the show to tell me why the kids are the only competent ones. At the least many other mecha shows attempt to give a shitty explanation.

I thought it was confirmed to be a split cour series?

It is but there should still be some conclusion/cliffhanger ending that leaves people wanting more. I think Fate/Zero did a good job with that. I just don't see that happening with such poor characterization and plot to bring people back to Aldnoah.

I dunno, the show seems pretty popular, I don't think they'll have any problems with it. Critique aside, it hits all the right superficial notes, and even the Sawano music I fucking hate is resonating with a ton of fans. People are pretty easily pleased if the content is right. :p

Aldnoah is probably my biggest disappointment since I started following anime as it airs. You'd think people would see through these flaws but then again SAO is popular because people think it's actually good.

Don't think it will have a problem retaining popularity, but I am interested to see what kind of hook they can come up with.
I assume by then the Terrans Inaho will be on the offense.

Seeing through flaws doesn't mean you can't still enjoy something though. :p

First season = Earth
Second season = Mars

That would be one way to do it. I think it's possible that Saazbaum's mech that they introduced this week could serve as either a climatic battle or a cliffhanger for the first season.
