PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

The biggest German tabloid Bild.de just published an article about the DDoS attack and the bomb threat:

As usual, the rest of the article is likewise investigated.

No shit? I wanna find out what's going on with the investigations. Why do these bastards think they can't be caught?

Most of them are teenagers with lots of free time and nothing better to do, and being typical teens - they think they're invincible.

Its especially surprising when you consider the fact that the FBI managed to track down pretty much every one of the guys in charge of the PSN network hack. I think they found the lead guy and then basically threatened him with "You work with us and give up all your friends or you go to jail for a very long time and we screw up the rest of your life." And since most of these asshats are teenagers and not fighting for some righteous cause, they crumble under the pressure almost immediately.

Whatever's going on the attack seems to be on the increase again. That IP map is going from slightly active to 1000's of attacks coming in one wave all of a sudden. Anyone know where the Sony servers are located? They appear to be targeting certain servers again right now as Kirksville and St Louis are getting hammered.

Was finishing up my TLOU:R Grounded playthrough and got a blue screen with error code and said I had to sign in at the very end.
(the last part with SWAT fireflies protecting the door to get to Ellie)
Took me another hour to complete because of it. Is it confirmed that this can affect single player games?

That's one of the most difficult parts of the game (at least it was for me).
I ended up going up the right side and looping around if I remember correctly.
Glad you got through it.

TLOU talks to PSN servers during singleplayer, might be the reason.

Holy hell. Whatever servers are located in St. Louis are getting demolished right now.

I guess you haven't been following the news about Ferguson, not everything is about videogames.

How exactly are you seeing the traffic to these servers?

I don't think I did relate it to games directly? I simply asked where the Sony servers are since that was a major target for them. I thought it was pretty clear this attack was directed at more than just games anyway as of yesterday. I have read about the incident in Ferguson, but being from the UK my geographical knowledge of the US is a bit lacking, so wasn't actually certain where Ferguson is.

I heard about this on the radio on my way to work. They only pointed out Sony and also mentioned the bomb threat. They referred to the attack as "Sony being hacked" and also identified the group as hackers.

There should be action taken against news anchors or radio hosts who blow something out of proportion by using the wrong terms. The word 'hack' is just scaremongering for the millions of people who can't differentiate between hacking and a DDoS.

Do you expect average Joe to understand what DDoS is? The "hacking" is just easier for them to understand, it doesn't mean any personal info was stolen any way, just that service is disrupted. Sometimes I just feel people on Gaf don't have any touch on reality.

The word hacking suggests that unauthorized users gained access to a network or system by circumventing the security measures. This isn't what a DDoS is, and it isn't what happened to Sony, thus, it is false reporting to call it hacking.
