Even before actually joining NeoGAF I followed this thread. I have gotten so many wonderful ideas from here. I've finally acquired my own apartment and have worked to do the best with it that I can. Please don't mind the cable management as I was so excited to finally have everything setup that I didn't bother with it yet. I'm always down for further critiquing of my setup.
Here's some pics:

LOVE this setup! So clean. I want that key board too.

Here's a quick updated shot of my oak desk with the two drawer pedestals finally in place, all ready and waiting for the gaming PC at the end of this year. Nearly killed us getting them up the stairs. Still can't quite believe I got this lot (plus some extras) for just £10. The A3 Brother printer was free, too.

I really like the table. The curve on the middle makes it more pleasing to the eye.

Is it comfortable ? I might do it to my table I ordered...

I've mentioned before that I've bought a new house and with it will, of course, come Gaming Room 2.0. We're still in the middle of rebuilding and renovating, but I wanted to show you all where we're at right now.

I won't bore you with the rest of the house, this room is made to be my gaming room and nothing else. It'll stay open-ceiling as it is now and I've gonna have steps in my bedroom that leads up to the attic, where I'm planning on having all-retro stuff. I didn't have a ladder handy at the time I was taking these pics, so I still owe you some shots from the attic.

I'm still mulling around ideas in my head, but I have some cool ideas already. If any of you wanna share any ideas, I'm very open to them.

Here's where I'm gonna put the TV and modern consoles. The little nook next to the door is gonna be a sort of display cabinet.

Awesome to hear. I'm planning, mostly hoping, to do something like this whenever I get a new place in the couple of years. It seems like a hassle of a project but the end result is ultimately rewarding!

Do keep us up to date on your progress!

Took out my Slim PS3 (160GB) and replaced it with the 60GB PS3 I acquired. I also brought out all the PS2 games I could find and placed them on the bottom shelf. I have to make a trip to my local Microplay to find some more PS2 titles (Microplay is the only video game store I know of that still carries PS2 games).

Here's my pretty simple setup. Got my
-47-inch Sammy D7000
-XB1
-PS4
- Sammy soundbar w/ wireless sub
-Apple TV hiding in the back
-Wii U on the bottom w/ a few of my Disk games

Nothing too grand but gets the job done minus the window glare in the late afternoon.
I made the TV stand a long time ago for another TV. I couldn't find anything that would fit all my stuff that look decent. Turned out pretty good and has lasted for like 8 years and counting.

Older Sony 6.1 Receiver

Made a box for my sub that also holds all my Genesis carts. The sides and top are held on by magnets so they just pop on and off. Rotate the cube 90 pop off the cover grab game and go.

Got new floors and had to move everything so I though that was the perfect time to redo all of my cabling. Took a very long time but everything is color coded and labeled. So simple the wife could hook it all back up.

I think some of these game spaces need to look more "cheery". There is too much black and grey, and also too much white. I need to see more turquoise, pink, and purple. Also, some of you practice good feng shui, but others practice bad feng shui. you have to keep out the demons and evil spirits. Thats just my two cents.

Or you could dump your 360. Looks like the X1 would have to be the size of a peanut to fit in your current console setup.
If the One had BC, sure... The size of a Nintendo console would work, peanut would be great too though.

Anyway, since I'm replying, the games:

They're going to have to release a smaller Xbox One if they want me to add one of those...

That's an Ikea Besta unit, right? I'm looking into getting one of these, but i'm not sure if my devices would fit in and the next Ikea is too far away to drive there just to get some measurements. If it isn't too inconvenient, would you be so kind and measure the width and heighth of one of the slots for me?

if that is a besta (and it sure looks like one) the shelves are adjustable height-wise

It's 4 times 12x56 cm on the inside, you can change the height to make one smaller and another bigger if needed.

I know, but two things i want to place on them are pretty big (AVR and center speaker) and i'm not sure if my other devices will fit in the remaining space once i've adjusted the shelves accordingly. Therefore it would be helpful to know the default measurements of a slot, so i can work out the rest from there. It's a shame these Besta units are so tightly fit, an extra 10cm in heighth would do wonders for me.

I was/am planning the exact same thing for my new house.

But both my center channel and the avr I plan on getting would not fit so it was either one or the other. If you need measurements I can help out if that's the same set-up you had in mind.

Once I get everything hooked up I'm going to do a proper set-up post (waiting on tv, avr and I have some wiring to do still)

That's a nice looking setup, but like you said it's problematic when you have two larger pieces of equipment. Currently i've been leaning to the following setup:

setupimkm2.png

Granted, i'm not too happy about the fact that the middle shelves would be positioned asymmetrically and would much rather have a setup akin to yours, but it's the only workable solution i could think of to get both my AVR and center speaker into the unit. I guess i could also lower the shelf on the right to line up with the other two, but i wouldn't want to put either console in such a confined space. I could also put the center speaker on top of the unit like in your pic, but the speaker is so big that it blocks a bit of the the bottom of my TV screen right now, so i'd like to avoid that with a new TV stand. A third solution would be to keep the speaker on top of the unit and get a wall mount for the TV, but i plan on getting a new one in the next six months and i'm not sure whether the same mount would work both with my current TV and the one that will replace it (i haven't decided on a model yet).

Originally i was looking into having a TV unit custom made by a carpenter, but since then i got an Ikea Kallax shelving unit and an Alex/Linnmon desk combo which are placed along the same wall where my TV stand will be, so i would like to keep the furniture uniform and i have my doubts that a carpenter from these parts will have materials that would blend in perfectly with the Ikea units in color and texture. It would also likely cost me twice as much as the Besta stand.

So yes, i would appreciate it if you could take some measurements for me. I'd like to know the heighth and width of a slot when the shelf is right in the middle, as well as when it's placed at the highest/lowest position possible. I assume you're from the US? I'm from Europe, so if you have a tape measure with centimeters that would be great, otherwise i'll just use an online inches to centimeters converter. :)

You can also buy the next size up of the Besta. I use this to store my game consoles, 3 in a cabinet... everything fits perfectly except you have to pull out my SNES if you want to use the Super Game Boy :p

Ikea does have measurements online for their products iirc.

I'll take measurements today (I am in the states but I'm originally from Canada so I might have a metric tape or ruler around so I'll try to get you measurements in cm)

I thought about a similar setup to fit everything in (right now all that's going inside is my avr (onkyo tx-nr636) a PS4 and my cable box) but I also wanted drawers for controllers/games etc. When assembling I realized that all the components weren't going to fit (mostly due to the avr) I tried a few options (asymmetric with both drawers on one side, thought about not using a drawer, etc). But in the end I decided center channel of the top was best solution (I am wall mounting my new tv when it arrives (waiting on the vizio p series)

Finishing my basement and have decided to go front projector + screen for the home entertainment setup.

Does anyone have experience with this being your primary gaming setup? Pros/Cons?

I imagine the immersion would be amplified on a 110+ inch screen but wondering if it makes games like FPS or Sports harder since you would have to literally look up/down/right/left to cover all your spots.

Worth it in the end?

How far back are you sitting. A purchase likes this needs questions answered. I have been gaming on a projector for quite awhile and I'll try and help you

I want to buy this TV stand, are you saying there's a larger version of it? Could you link me to the unit you mean?

About the measurements on their website, i've seen those, but they just have the general measurements for the whole unit, what i need are the inner measurements of the slots/compartments and they don't have those listed. I guess i could try to use the former to deduce the latter, but that wouldn't be accurate enough for my needs.

Yours is definitely the aesthetically more pleasing solution, but for the time being i'll have to stick with mine, that is if everything will fit into it in the first place.

I tried the method of deducing sizes by going on the dimensions given on the website. It not the best way so I'm glad I can help out.

Here are some measurements (all measurements refer to inside dimensions)

The width of each section is 22.25" sorry couldn't even find a metric ruler

With the shelf at the highest setting the top space is 1" and the bottom is 8.5"
With the shelf at the lowest it's just opposite (8.5" on top 1" on bottom)

I realize now that I made an error with the shelf in middle position measurement, i took the measurement of my side sections which are in the middle hole but use a special peg that came with the drawers. The top section with the drawer is 5" if that helps. I can get a better reading next time I am over at the new house (Friday) if that one doesn't work. My guess is that each section would be less than 5" and going by the others that they would be 4.75"

Also the setup that I use in the center section is 7.25" top and 2.25" bottom

for everyone that has all their systems displayed, how do you guys have them hooked up? are they all always plugged in or do you just plug them in when you want to use them?

for everyone that has all their systems displayed, how do you guys have them hooked up? are they all always plugged in or do you just plug them in when you want to use them?

I use two sets of system/video selectors for my setup. I have 16 consoles (18 if you want to count the Sega CD and 32X, hah) connected to one CRT TV. I have multiple powerstrips, too.

Anything with component (PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360) and s-video (SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Saturn, Dreamcast) is connected to the selectors.

The Genesis/32X/CD is connected directly to the TV via composite, and the NES, Atari 7800, Sega Master System, and TurboGrafx-16 are all daisy-chained together via RF.

You may be wondering why I have some HD console connected to an old CRT...well, that's because the HDTV broke. I got a monitor with HDMI a month ago and had hooked up the PlayStation 3 and Wii U to it, but I recently got an Xbox One, and that took up all of the tiny space that I had next to my desk, so I had to put them back. I switch my Xbox 360 between my TV and monitor (through a long VGA cable) depending on what I'm doing.

I have Wii through s-video instead of component because component wouldn't work properly with my launch Wii, for some reason...and since the Wii U should only be connected to the CRT temporarily, I just switch the s-video cable between the two. Same with PlayStation 2 and 3 with component, I switch the video cable between the two. I also do this with my SNES, N64, and GameCube, though I might eventually get more s-video cables so that I won't have to.

Yes, I like everything plugged in at once. I use an HDMI receiver for HD consoles, and system selectors for composite and component consoles.

Pretty soon, I'll be looking for RGB cables for my old school systems + an RGB selector + an XRGB mini.

Get surge protectors for your consoles and try to only get system selectors that don't have to be powered, and operate though only a hard physical switch or buttons. That way, there is no processing added to the image and no extra input delay. They should be totally "passive" if possible.

I'm currently in the process of transforming my man-cave of a bedroom into a normal bedroom and shoving all of my computer and gaming stuff into my spare room, making it an office/lounge, but I got a question for you guys:

That standing cylinder thing in the pic on the right... is that an air filter? Does that reduce dust in a room at all? Really curious since I have a 2-bedroom bachelor pad and something like this could help make it easier to maintain.

Is there any harm in having 2 surge protectors plugged into the same outlet, or what are some good ones with many ports?

Yes, don't do that! They won't get enough power and your components may not function properly. I had a computer that turned but couldn't boot windows due to that, an N64 that crashed during gameplay (multiple carts), and a sound system that played in mono through one speaker because it didn't have enough power to send signals to all of the speakers. Unplugging one of the surge protectors fixed all of that.

I specifically had my wall built with two well placed outlets (four sockets) because I knew my setup would need a lot of power.

Look for heavy duty home surge protectors advertised to home theater enthusiasts. Try to avoid the dinky power strips.

Here's a 12 outlet surge protector. I think it's the most I've seen and it's one of the surge protectors I'm using in my setup.

hmm... would 2 surge protectors, each on opposite walls, pose the same problem or is it just in the same outlet?

please forgive my lack of understanding about electric wiring. :p

HDTV, PS4, adapter to use Surface Pro on TV screen for films, rooted smartphone, TV remote, bluetooth mouse to keep my Surface Pro's USB3 port free, phone charger wire which charges in the Surface Pro's power brick, and the space in front of tv is where the Surface Pro goes, giving me access to touchscreen table with fully functioning keyboard (which lights up in the dark).

Never have to leave my bed again unless it's for the kitchen or the bathroom, and even then I have the option of taking my Surface Pro or PS Vita with me.

Keep in mind most modern electronic devices such as a PS4 and a Wii U etc have their own surge protection technology built into it. They won't accept more current than they want or can handle. If you are only using a few of the devices at once then it shouldn't really matter. For example if you have a TV and a cable box and a PS3 and a PS4 and an X1 and a Receiver plugged into two different surge protectors and you only use a few of the devices at the same time then I don't see why it would matter how many surge protectors are plugged into the same outlet. If you turn them all on then maybe you might have problems.

Its just one of those tall thin fans that blows air.

I got almost everything moved in and setup this week, I just got to get the PS3 setup and clean up the power/audio/ cables that aren't velcro tied yet. Here hows the living room setup is looking so far

I had an "ionizer" type air purifier and it seemed to have a weird effect on dust that just made it clump together more and look worse. There was probably less dust in the air, but more of it visible.
