Windows Phone Central has now learned that Microsoft is planning to sell the stand-alone Kinect sensor for $149 beginning on or around October 6. The timing is ideal as it leads well into the holiday season in the US and other countries, making the add-on an excellent gift for those who already own an Xbox One without the next-gen accessory.

Presumably, you should be able to pick up the stand-alone version from stores like Best Buy, Target, and Microsoft, just like buying an Xbox console. Regional availability for the stand-alone Kinect is not known at this time, though the US market is definitely the first to get it.

That seems a bit expensive. I was thinking more in the $100-$125 range.

If they're going to price it at $150 it should at least include Kinect Sports Rivals.

Higher than I expected. Thought it'd be $129 max

Oh and kinect 2.0 is well and truly dead unless some indie makes magic with it at this point

MS just can't hit the sweet spot for this, can they?

I guess I'll just hope they'll keep making bundles and pick it up when the price is like half of what it is now.

Damn, might just have to buy one off of eBay now while they are still around 80 USD shipped...

Dammit, and it's iPhone season too! My wallet...

Holy Fuck. No wonder the Xbox One launched at $499. That thing is overpriced to hell. Lower the markup MS.

Figured it'd be something like this. Makes the 499 bundle look more enticing by comparison. Though, admittedly, I thought it'd be closer to 129.

I wanted one solely for Fantasia when I buy an Xbox One this fall, but none of the bundles have Kinect. There's no way I'm paying
$150 for it though. I guess I'll just have to wait for deals.

I assume this will happen again

I understand what they're going for but you'd think being in their position they'd be a bit more willing to offer some good value instead of just doing standard pricing and calling it a day.

I gladly bought the version with Kinect and enjoy it. But I have to say that as a standalone, that is just too expensive. Sorry, Microsoft. You are not going to entice people to buy it at that price.

Uh, bundles are supposed to be cheaper than buying it separately. I don't think anyone expected it to cost equal to or less than the original bundle.

You thought it was gonna be equivalent pricing?

In light of how the extra $100 on the bundle was an anchor around MS's neck, and sales shot up as soon as they started selling the standalone unit? Yeah, that price is stupid.

I can buy maybe $120 at most, but $150? What are they doing with the device that's so amazing that people would pay such a premium for a peripheral they didn't want to begin with?

wow that's ... unfortunate.

They really don't want this thing even though releasing it standalone would tell you otherwise.

I hope they release something that will make the price tag make sense.

I don't think it is the price that will kill this version of Kinect, it's the complete lack of games.

At least with the original Kinect, Microsoft was pushing games for it. Now? Crickets.

There's not much of a reason to spend $75 on it, much less $150.
