PAX Prime 2014 Thread: Meet-up details in OP

Dusk Golem

A 21st Century Rockefeller
At PAX all four days. Be a bit lonely this year, the last PAX Prime and PAX East the year before I had people to go with both times, this year I'm by my lonesome. But looking forward to it still, more chances to play games (and more games I'm interested in) and maybe I can gather up the courage to try and meet some new people.

Arrived at my hotel yesterday, Seattle and Bellvue are like a second home to me for how much I've had to spend time here for family, trips, etc., so knew a nice, cheap, and little hotel not too far off and already got here yesterday. A few spare days to go down nostalgia lane here. For some reason feeling a bit anxious, likely as going to feel weird going solo, but also excited.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!

If I end up on just going on Saturday, I may have to skip Giant Bomb, then. It would be awesome to see the show live, but waiting in line for two or more hours seems like a bit of a waste if I'm only there for one day.

The one thing you may want to consider is that Giant Bomb is in the evening. So you could pretty much have a full day of fun, and only head over to the line once the convention floor closes.

My first PAX I went to, I did it solo. Yeah, at first it's a little weird, but it's also actually kind of liberating. You have the advantage of being able to do whatever you want without having to worry about coordinating with other people.

Feel free to wait in long lines to try whatever games you want! Go to whatever panels you like, without having to take other people's interests into account! Be able to grab the single lone seat up towards the front!

Seriously, just bring a handheld, and go wild. You can meet and chat with plenty of new people in lines if you want.

First time going to PAX and my friends all decided not to go this year haha. Traveling solo is a bit different but you definitely have more freedom.

I've only gone with a buddy once and this will be my 4th PAX. Going solo ain't no thang. Just talk to people if you want to and people are generally pretty cool. We all share that common interest and if you're in line for a specific game, then you've at least got that to talk about.

I'm only going for Saturday. Doing the expo hall all fuckin day and then the Evil Within event at night. Pretty excited for it!

If we're gonna meetup, we need to pick a spot and just go with it now.

Capitol Cider is not showing any events on their calendar all weekend, except for tonight. So if we pick a time and date, I can snag a table for it. It's reasonably sizable, has great taps, decent food and is right off Broadway on the hill...easy access.

Friday night is best for me. Sat and Sun I have functions to attend. Monday could work but being the last day, I doubt folks would want to meet then.

WHAT SAY YOU, GAF...?!?

Hey guys !

I'm panel plugging!

On Saturday at 1:30pm in the Hedgehog Theatre (Grand Hyatt), you should check out the Robot Entertainment panel. We are gonna be talking about the days of Ensemble Studios past all the way to the inception of Robot (if you didn't know, Robot Entertainment = Ensemble reborn) and we will talk about Orcs Must Die! and our new game Orcs Must Die! Unchained along with some never before seen stuff in the game.

The stories will be good, you may hear some new things from the past and you will hear new things for the future as well! I highly recommend checking it out! ;)

Also... we are going to have tons of giveaways. In fact, everyone that comes will walk out with quite a lot of physical stuff and some special surprise giveaways at the end of the panel :)

We are also hosting a "Meet the Devs" drink-up that night at Rock Bottom. It's at 6pm - 9pm and we will have free drinks from 6pm - 8pm. There is no RSVP... Just show up and say hi!

Info is below...

Oh....and BUMP.

I'll be in attendance because I <3 Adam to bits. If people want to do this, we COULD make this the GAF meetup.

Any venue that has free drinks will be swarmed by 500 people with huge wait times. Krae is posting something today he said.
Adam is good peoples though :)

Krae and I were talking about doing either Rhein Haus (old Von Trapp's) or The Garage for Sunday night. I've confirmed with both venues that they'll be open to the public. Sunday seems to be the best day for everyone.

Thread should be up sometime today.

I'm game for this. I personally dislike The Garage due to it's limited drink choice and douchy crowd.

I dunno. Our thing is pretty low key.

I need to hit my alcohol minimum with Rock Bottom! :p

I will CERTAINLY assist with that. Time to cut loose, yo!

Getting excited... wife and friend might not dress up day one, but we'll probably be recognizable day 2... One Fetch, a Starfire, a 3 year old and a big dude not dressed up (that's me) lol.

NOBODOY PARK AT PACIFIC PLACE!

[spoler]I'm only saying that because I hate parking anywhere else and don't want it to fill up lol.[/spoiler]

I'm so excited for PAX! I have no set PAX buddy this year since he's working the Nintendo booth, but I'm sure I'll still have a ton of fun.

I have to work during the day tomorrow so that's going to be torture. I'll definitely try to get to the meetup. Sunday sounds good to me.

I'm game for that. Looks like it's going to be Sunday evening. I'll set up the thread once I get off work tonight.

We gonna do the goodbye dinner Monday evening too?
We can talk about that this week and/or at the actual meet up. I know that just spontaneously came up last year and seemed to work so I say we do the same thing this year.

So, what's the consensus on pre-PAX Prime community events? I'm tossed between the Pub Crawl (I don't drink, but get to be social), the Sheraton Game Night (social and board games), or the Destructoid GameWorks meetup.

Tips for visitors!

If you're coming to PAX, don't neglect our wonderful city. There's a lot of amazing stuff you can do without sticking around in downtown all day, without sacrificing time for the convention.

Walk up Pike street! If you walk up the hill of Pike street crossing the bridge over I-5 instead of the other direction toward downtown, you'll hit a lot of amazing food, coffee, and drinks. It's not a a far walk at all, but the variety is so much better than downtown. It's the Capitol Hill neighborhood, and it is excellent.

Get the best tacos in town. If you really want to get deeper into the Capitol Hill, go to Tacos Chukis. Get their house taco, a baby burrito with their adobada, walk out super happy.

Get the best coffee in town. Seattle is coffee heaven, right? What if you wanted the best coffee in coffee heaven? The answer is Espresso Vivace. Get a tradition cappuccino, maybe a biscotti to go along with it. Enjoy heaven.

Get the best drinks in town. Walk far enough up the hill, you'll reach Canon. Every drink is incredible, and their liquor selection is one of the biggest in the world. But if you want great presentation to go along with it, try their Milk and Cookies or the Campfire.

Alternatively, make a reservation at Knee High Stocking Company!

Late night food? This one is easy. You'll probably already be on or near Olive Way, go to Kedai Makan. If you're there late enough, get the amazing Ramley Burger.

Thank me later.

PAX-GAF I need your help. By coincidence I find myself in Seattle with my family on Pax weekend. We go to Pax East every year, but I never thought I'd ever be close to going to Pax Prime.

I'm looking for 2-3 passes for Fri or Sat to take my daughters (6 and 8) to the event to walk the show floor and check out the vendors -- 3 passes we could all go together, or 2 passes would allow me to take my girls 1 at a time. I'd be willing to pay to borrow passes for 1/2 day, if anyone wants to make entry money back.

If anyone knows of someone with extra passes or would be open to making some kind of arrangement please let me know.

Don't worry, you'll be sick of them soon enough. :)

Checking this out on Saturday! I can't wait! I'll be the dude in the Pax 04 shirt. Not sure if there's anyone else left from those days although I think I saw Fatrick last year.

He'll be cursing Nintendo for making the 10 hit limit on Street Pass.
