I don't really see why ordinary software-based parental control schemes aren't the reasonable solution to the issue.I dislike that this is felt to be necessary, but if you *do* take it as necessary, this is a reasonable solution to the issue.
How is this a good idea when you can easily put parental locks like every other device in existence? This is cheap of them.
I could understand using credit card verification, but actually charging something is kind of silly. But I don't watch porn on my Gameboy, so whatever.
Yeah its a good idea that nintendo is limiting what you can look at on your own internet connectiom unless you pay them even if it is a small amount.I see no problem with this whatsoever. I think it's a good idea.
So unless you have a credit card, the device is gimped?
Who thought this was a good idea?!?!
so what do early adopters of the 3DS then 3DSXL buyers get to make up for the blow of having to buy another damn system??
free porn??
Didn't they do something like that with the WiiU too? It was stupid then and it's stupid now. I get tired of Nintendo constantly trying to "protect" everyone. They should have just put parental options on by default.

The whole point is to prove you're an adult by having a debit/credit card. If you have one, $0.30 should be nothing. Its just a validation.
Sadly this is the thread people admit they watch porn on the bad 3DS screen

I had a debit card when I was 12, a lot of teens have debit cards. Just because you own one doesnt mean youre an adult. And .30 cents is still money I nor anyone should have to give to view internet in their own home when theyre already paying for the service. The whole point is to prove you're an adult by having a debit/credit card. On the other hand, this wouldn't be necessary if parents were more proactive in what they allow their children to access on the internet.
That's not good enough! Put it behind a paywall. I can't believe there are people who believe this is a good solution. If the parent truly was worried about a kid running into porn or something then put on a lock.If you're an adult setting this up for your child, be responsible and set up a password in order to access certain sites. It is not that hard.
This is a dumb answer to an issue that really isn't that big of a deal, but typically Nintendo in terms of a solution.

And why not just 1 cent if they really HAVE to put a mandatory lock. Seems scummy to me.
Adults ignore these controls and then get angry when their child gets involved in something bad. The media jumps on Nintendo and say they aren't doing a good enough job.
This isn't some "get rich quick" scheme. They won't make very much money.
