Who else doing from XL/LL to normal new 3DS?

The End

Have a M&L 3DS XL, assuming they sort our their shit with NNID by next year, I'll grab a regular New 3DS. Stretching out games at 400x240 over a bigger screen does them no favors.

I put together a (relative) comparison of the top screen sizes of the original 3DS vs new 3DS vs 3DS XL:

I love the New 3DS (especially with the Super Famicom colored buttons), but I couldn't go back to smaller screens after using my XL for a little over a year.

I can't tell all that well since I'm on my Vita but the Zelda XL pic should look worse :p

It should, it doesn't look that good on my XL. Not that I would consider it a jaggy horrible puke worthy mess or anything. The New 3DS seems like it'd be a nice compromise between increased screen size and huge pixels.

I think I will get both.

One for the bigger screen to use. And one of the smaller ones for collecting.
Because I love the designs and the Super Famicom buttons so much.

Don't know why someone would want to go back to a small.
But for me i'm waiting on the New 3DS to get the XL.
Almost bought one for smash and now glad I didn't.

I want the face plates really badly, but it's not worth the trade-off in screen size and my hands not cramping up. I'll buy a blue N3DS XL on day one. I like the blue buttons with color letters much more than the solid color buttons, also.

I'm not sure yet. The smaller screens compared to the XL is a deal breaker but the face plates is a deal maker. I'm so damn conflicted

I think I'd go for a regular New 3DS if it weren't for the account foofaraw. I like my XL, but I hate the floppy hinge and I really hate how heavy it is. I tend to hold it one-handed, playing Pokemon while I'm doing other stuff, which leads to pain in my middle finger from supporting that thing's bulk. Really disappointed to see they couldn't get the weight down on the new one.

Nah. I like the XL screen size and ergonomics and I don't mind the pixel density at all, plus face plates don't interest me much, I actually prefer the metallic look.

The stylus position, though. Now that bothers me and it's the same in both models.

Is this thing really called the "new" 3DS?

Did nintendo look at Microsoft and say "Xbox One? What a confusing name. I am sure we can beat that"

I really like the look of the new 3DS, colored buttons and faceplates and all, but I don't think I can go back from the XL's screen size.

It will be a difficult decision. Portability might be more of a factor soon though, so being able to pocket it easier might weigh in.

If Monster Hunter 4U isn't announced for Wii U, then I'll make the XL to NewXL upgrade. Otherwise, I don't see the point.

Definitely trading my XL for one when it comes out.

I can't help but lol at the several "no colored buttons, no buy" in this thread.

I'll move from XL to new XL. Screen size and form are a must. I never take it out of the house anyway.

I really preferred the 3D effect and the pixel density of the original 3DS screen but it was always uncomfortable for me to play after a few minutes.

I have an original 3DS and have only seen the XL once. I don't really bring the thing outside a lot so I'm wondering if the bigger screen and better battery means that the XL is more suitable for me. Is the screen quality really as bad as people make it out to be? Maybe I just need to try an XL in person to see for myself, if I can.

Comparing XL to regular one in my house, I'm leaning toward exchanging XL for *new*3DS. XL's screen is worse because of resolution. Slighty bigger screen in *new* will be perfect for me.

I afraid that pixels on the New 3DS will look a little stretched since the 1:1 ratio are from the OG 3DS screen size.

I am!

Hey, I need to play monster hunter without that awful CCP or the wannabe Claw -.-

But one thing worries me...the NEW 3DS LL, can you switch out the plates on it? Didn't seem as you could it :(

Nope, unfortunately you can't switch plates on the new XL.

I'm going 3DS (the metallic red one) to New 3DS XL. I was actually planning on getting an XL for Smash 3DS this week but luckily I didn't lol.

Im seriously considering it. I hated the og 3ds for its size, but the new 3ds seems to be a bit bigger. I love my xl too much though, so ill probably either go new xl or just end up getting both.

I feel the XL is superior in most ways. Even the larger pixels are not an issue. One critical issue is the 3D mode on the XL. The sweet spot is so incredibly tiny, that even when you have it in the ideal angle, here is some banding on the edges. It is so strict, that even the tiny movements caused by pressing buttons causes the screen to "flicker".

I prefer the XL in every other regard. However, I play every game in 3D, so this is extremely annoying. If you never play in 3D, try the XL. If you play in 3D, don't bother. Just wait for this new version of the regular size.

Depends which one is nicer to hold and has the better build quality. I love my OG 3DS and the XL, but the OG has a much better build quality IMO. The XL just feels a little plasticy and cheap.

Yeah this is where I sit. I traded my OG for an XL after seeing the screen size, but man the XL is some fisher-price toy shit compared to the sleek finish on the OG. I will wait and compare the two new ones, but I think I'll be going for the OG size, screen size be damned.

The XL was clearly a cheaper build, 2DS was as cheap as it gets. I'm sure the new 3DS models will be nicer, but there is no reason to expect either one to look as upscale as the OG 3DS did. It was designed to sell for $250, these won't be.

don't like matte?

I like it way better than the OG's glossy shit :/ gets really yucky when it's hot and all that sweat from my hands, gawd. might be my own problem.

I upgraded from the original to the XL, and I miss being able to comfortably stuff my 3DS in my pocket. And frankly, the big screen size doesn't do the already-low resolution of the 3DS any favors. So long as the battery life is decent as promised and the controls feel good, I'm probably going to pick up the smaller of the two 'new' devices.

I have the original red 3DS and I'm doing the upgrade when the ''New'' 3DS (Not sure if I want the small or XL ver.) will be out here in US/Canada, because of Xenoblade. I hoped for Xenoblade HD Remake on Wii U, but a 3DS port is just too glorious...

Been thinking about it. The XL just feels cheap and like I have to be really careful with it. I cringe everytime I flip it open. Plus I have smaller hands so the ergonomics of it aren't great for me and I get hand cramps when playing it. With the better picture quality yea I would say i'm really leaning towards it.

Even though I am not sure I will upgrade, I'd probably go for the normal one. I currently prefer the size of the OG 3DS over the XL, but the XL has a much much better design. The New 3DS with the much improved design of the smaller size, makes it very appealing. It's just beautiful and the faceplates <3
