Anytime, you can watch other people's plays within the world itself, but participating requires membership, which is the one-time price for the sports.

Then after reading more: Okay, might be interesting possibly.. but is it becoming a requirement that "open world" needs to be able to be shoehorned into absolutely everything?

Sound great! Arcade sport title collection MMO with huge roaming area featuring PS characters, lots of potential and micro transaction opportunity.

I don't think it's building your own resort, that shot was basically hinting that the game is in development ( resort is building ) with Shu and Resort Owner supervising the construction, thus them ending out saying "More Info Next Year."

It's basically a cute way to show in-engine graphics with Shu avatar.

A Wii Sports Club style model with more to do when you don't pay would be great. Have the games be more in depth than Wii Sports, with the full features of of Hot Shots Golf/Tennis. That would be wonderful.

We know Shu reads GAF, so we need to get the good ideas out there so that Shu can do the right thing.
