Games where the musical score outclasses the game.

im gonna go with fall of cybertron, the music isnt really memorable really, but damn it gets me pumped. i actually read some comics and manga with the OST playing and i was blown away how if fits. fall of cybertron was good, but the music was better

Silver Surfer. Listening to that game's music makes you want to believe the game would be as good as Master Blaster, yet is awful all around.

Hohokum. Not a slight towards the game, but the soundtrack was just so darn good.

Seriously, what other gaming soundtrack gets a HypeM premiere?

Chrono Cross, the thread. The music was simply amazing but the game itself was a disappointment to me in some ways.

Great example. Honestly, this game was ass. (no pun intended)

Style over substance, and I did buy it because of the soundtrack but god was the game dull and uninteresting.

I thought they had a lot of good ideas but never really solidified them. If they could streamline the combo system, make it easier and quicker to swap thing, it could be really fun. As it is I found myself jumping into the menu to change things every time I had to fight a different enemy type and it really disrupted the flow of the game.

The soundtrack really is worth listening to though.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.

Yeah, but I just found that the way they opened the story and introduced the characters to be a bit bland. Or maybe I just didn't find their whole conflict all that convincing.

And the combo system felt heavily scripted. It shares that same, press button to initiate combat, then wait for the enemy to do his attack routine to do yours, that I find so disjointed in games like RMe and PoP2008. Although I was more okay with it in PoP because that game was more open and just downright beautiful.

Super Castlevania IV - Game is great but the soundtrack is still my favorite in any game ever.

Arcanum - Not a huge fan of the game but the music is amazing.

Yep, Remember Me is a great example. Such an amazing soundtrack, better than the game deserves.

I did moderately enjoy the game though, I was halfway through my second playthrough to mop up trophies when I got my PS4 and haven't touched it since. I find it's a really hard game to go back to, partially because I've no idea where I was up to now. A lot of the later chapters are really samey.

Medal of Honor: European Assault: Just listen to this amazing stuff:

This makes me miss WWII shooters of old. They were a lot less pretentiously bombastic and Michael Bay-ish than all the Modern Warfares out there. The music alone conveys that noble sort of feeling they had.

I got another one:

Warhawk!

This game's music put me right in the mood to dive in the battle. I wasn't very good at it, but if anything, the music served to prove how good scores can keep you coming back even if your game or the player isn't very good.

I was wondering if anyone has come across games that they just can't get into, and yet have such an amazing soundtrack that you actively try to see the good in it, even though it's not your cup of tea.

For me:

Assassin's Creed II and Jesper Kyd's music.

In my opinion this game is not nearly as well realized as the music, or the music is in a class of its own. I fucking love it. Can't get enough of it, and I could never get into the game for various reasons.

On another Jesper Kyd note, Darksiders 2.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this game, it's soundtrack was a class apart.
Yeah, I really like Lords of Shadow as well so I refrained from mentioning it, but it has what I would say is my favorite soundtrack of last gen. It's an amazing score.

Theathrythm: Curtain Call - The thread.

I love rhythm games but its gameplay needs to have a bit more variety

Super Castlevania IV. Pretty nice soundtrack, really mediocre Castlevania.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNN

I'd nominate the Golden Sun franchise, not because they're awful games (their worst trait is uniformly chatty and uninteresting dialogue) but because Motoi Sakuraba just went n u t s on it. He's clearly drawing on a stunning variety of influences including a swathe of world traditional, John Williams, and probably a heaping helping of prog. Aesthetically, there's something for every mood or tone and nary a bum track to be heard. It's an aural rainbow, if rainbows were mostly GBA synth metal.

In fact, that's probably the worst part-- that it had to be composed on a GBA. Still, the fuzzy, dirty quality of that system's sound kind of complements GS's filthy butt rock, so maybe it's for the best.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

I liked the game, but the soundtrack was one of my favourite albums last year and the game doesn't quite achieve that level. Wonderful stuff.

Castlevania Judgement.

Incredible music, really bland game.

There was an option to playback all the sound effects in the game, and it included the music - actually made a "mix-tape" back in the day that included my favorites!
