Teens React to Nintendo (NES)

First one of these I have watched and it wasn't as bad as previous GAF threads I had read implied...

That being said... it made me feel old. (27)

I didn't mind this "react" video at all. I thought most of the responses were very reasonable.

I was surprised Zelda was so unknown though, I thought it was a more popular brand.

I was yelling at my screen the whole time "BLOW IN IT! YEAH BLOW IN THE SYSTEM TOO! NO DON'T PUT IT DIRECTLY IN, MAKE IT HUG THE EDGE OF THE SYSTEM BEFORE YOU PUSH DOWN THE CARTRIDGE! HOLD B TO RUN FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! NOOOO DON'T DIE ON THE FIRST GOOMBA! NOOOO DON'T HIT UNDER THE BRICK TO MAKE THE MUSHROOM GO BACK", all things we've all done once in our lives lol.

I'd love to teach someone all about the NES who knows nothing about it. I'm so disappointed in people that have NES/Gameboy covers who don't know anything about the consoles.

are they going to do a "teen gamers react to cassette tape vic-20 game" yet?
I want to see Tori remain as calm and unruffled in the face of those shenanigans.

Who knew the NES had some god tier Parental Control system with the pushing down on the cartridge...

When the girl didn't push it down and they said she was missing a step, I was thinking,"Well, not really. The game would still work". The pushdown feature was only there to make a similarity to the VCR player, how VHS's went "down" into the player, because of how scared Nintendo was of the video game crash that happened. Video games had a bad name at the time. If I remember correctly, that pushdown feature actually damaged the metal connectors over time which is why it's hard to get a game working these days. I believe the re-designed top loader NES doesn't really have that issue.

Yeah, I've never gotten a game to work pushed down on any used NES's I have bought.

Right how I felt when watching this video. Thanks you very much.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't know what Dragon Warrior 3 was, I always knew the series as Dragon Quest.

Also, it's not too crazy to believe some would die at the first Goomba, I bet I would make a mistake or too as well (Damn slippery Mario) and Miyamoto has died to it as well!

I think the idea that a modern day game that's at 1080p is automatically better than a classic is what they're getting at.

Erm nope, read some of the posts here. The resolutiongame is srs business. :p

It depends. If that NES has the redesigned connector then it could play without being pushed down. The original US design def needed to be pushed down though.

God damn if that didn't make feel old while also frustrating the shit out of me.

I'm 34 and I supervise a 23 year old. I asked her most of those questions and thankfully she answered almost all of them bar Metroid. She has no idea what Metroid is.

I was foolishly optimistic.

My NES push down mechanism had stopped working (long story) and so I used to use an eraser to hold the cartridges down...

Legal in Holland.

Not that I would do anything to her, though. I'm 30 and already have a gf. I just find her really good looking.
Could we still go with discussing the topic in hand (the teenager's reactions) instead of how hot some barely legal kid is.

I died when he said "let's make it Beige". Like he didn't know that the plastic discolors over the years and it used to be grey. This was a good watch. And the girl who didn't know what it was but said she had an iphone case that looked like the controller.

YOU CAN'T BE RETRO WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE ORIGINAL THE 'RETRO' ITEM WAS INSPIRED BY IS! /Facepalm

Damn, Tori is hot

Can't decide if pedo or tag fishing.

If you somehow failed to get that the thread topic itself is a semi-elaborate trolling for the very train of thought that derailed it, well... good job, I guess, OP?

I don't want to be that kind of person, but I feel like that had to be staged. Just like how apparently for every single person, it didn't boot when they pressed the power button. It just seems unlikely to me that for that many independent power-ons that none of them would start correctly. Not that it matters, it makes for a more entertaining video after all.

I have no proof, but I have a feeling that these videos are absolutely scripted for reactions and should not be real indications of how a legitimate 'random' person taken from that age bracket would react.

At least, that's what I've always assumed. It's pretty clear from their videos that they fish for specific thought process and reactions and have the same group of kids all the time so they know what they [the filmmakers] want them to say.

Regardless, I still really do think the average person would be awful at Mario and nobody would know what the hell an NES, Metroid, or even Zelda are. Most people would know Mario though I would guess.

I wonder if they would be just as bewildered with an SNES, or just about anything from SEGA.

Show them a SEGA 32X with CD and they might think it's some kind of monster.

Metroid really isn't that well-known. Maybe it was in the 90s with Super Metroid and stuff, but nowadays it's kind of a niche series.

Arya being in the video was a surprise. These videos are funny.

Really guy? What´s wrong with you?

He called the Xbox better than NES. Well, no, I'm kidding. It was the condescending way he said it. Condescension about being a graphics whore. And I just checked the beginning, he's 18. Not even a kid like I previously thought. There's no excuse.

Same one that called the NES a projector.

umm... you do realize he was born the same year NES was discontinued in america right? and when he reached 10, the xbox 360 would have already been released

im 17 and i honestly didnt even know Nintendo made video games before the 90s until last year

I meant no excuse for thinking graphics make a game. It doesn't have to be NES. It could be SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii.. Just because a system is 1080p doesn't automatically make it better. He said something like "You're telling me a 1080p system is worse than this game? Get out of here."

Seriously? Thats kinda mind blowing. I guess you were a kid when Gamecube was around, but i'd think anyone on GAF would be aware of system origins.

nes is as basic as you can get in terms of decent gameplay yet its games seem so complex and foreign to kids these days. you can tell their gaming diet is of the mobile tap to win, pay to win more variety.

at least they enjoyed what they played, now the industry needs to find a way to grab the attention of younger generations away from the garbage apps because that's their potential user base going forward.

Sadly half of gaf will tell you otherwise.
