I don't think it would work quite as well on NHL jerseys though since the logos are drastically different than football emblems.

It's inevitable and it'll be much more jarring than when it happened in soccer.
Pre-sponsor era, for soccer, you would see the players at a distance on a small, grainy, non-HD TV. They also didn't have logos associated with the team name; it would be a small emblem on an otherwise plain or striped jersey. Put 'Sharp' on the middle of it and it's not jarring at all, and over time 'Sharp' no longer means that company - it's synonymous with that team. The transition was pretty insignificant.
With North American sports, and in this era, you've got constant closeups and in high resolution. You've also got footage of previous seasons, again in HD, being referred to constantly, that would put the two jerseys in direct contrast. Putting a sponsor on a jersey would lead to a huge backlash for sure.
I expect them to begin with small patches on the arm and go from there. We'll get used to it over years, especially younger fans, and very slowly they'll get away with it.

Think they could make it work without the sponsor like international kits but sponsor money is too important especially if you're one of the top teams.
That Chevrolet deal netted Man United 53 million pounds per season.
As long as it doesn't clash with the jersey like Man United's I don't have a problem with it.
He was just on the radio claiming that those numbers were false from the Sun. He said they only talked term, no numbers yet.
The assistant GM was also on the radio pissed at another sun article about methot and his numbers.
I don't get how the organization just doesn't ban this paper.

That's a lot of dough. I can see putting ads on jerseys and uniforms, but not front and center like those. Especially because, as someone pointed out earlier, we are used to decades of our NHL teams' logos being front and center. I guess in Association Football (or "soccer") that hasn't been the case.

That's pretty reasonable. A shorter term has a lower AAV to prove he deserves more, or a longer term with a higher AAV to guarantee a payday.
I wonder if the relationship between the team and Johansen is salvageable at this point.
