I meant as a "perceived" problem. They've already tried pretty hard to placate the competitive Smash Bros. scene with the sponsored tournaments and gamecube controller adapter. I have to imagine that, given a bunch of negative feedback about an intended mechanic, Sakurai might bend and take it out.

That would never happen unless it somehow negatively affected casual players.

Some of you complain about everything, though. FD stage variations are bad, blast zones are bad, speed isn't enough, DI whatever, etc etc...

Every decision has a pro and a con. It's just how game design works. There will be people who hate tripping, and there will be people who love tripping because it's silly.

There are people who love the Duck Hunt Dog being included in Smash, and there are people who hate the fact that he's in over a more relevant character. There are people who love the fact that you can play on Magicant, and there are people who hate the stage because it has an enemy that can assist players.

You can't please everyone. That's true not only with Smash, but with every video game, novel, piece of art or music, movie (etc) ever made.

Voicing opinions is not a bad thing. Respect the other person's opinion, don't shit on it.

The thing is, you keep looking at the complaints as people hating on the game when it couldn't be any more of the opposite. People want the game to be better so the complaints/criticisms leveled at the game are out of concern/"I want this game to be good, it only needs these things to be much better than it already is." At least, this is my perspective when I am giving criticism for Smash 4. It may not be true for everyone, especially those with more extreme opinions about the game.

That said, games don't get better by showering them with unbridled praise every day. Smash 4 isn't perfect. Is it a good game? Absolutely. But it could be a much better game for more people if it addressed some really small things that you, otherwise, wouldn't bat an eye at if Sakurai patched them in (small things being something like adding Battlefield-forms of some of the stages).

On Makai's stream, I just watched Villager, from Animal Crossing, fight Little Mac, from Punch-Out, on Gaur Plain, from Xenoblade Chronicles.

This truly is a new Smash!

EDIT: Now they're on Unova Pokémon League. The music!

Duck Hunt, not Duck Hunt Dog

I agree with you, it is just that I never see people complaining as much as in the Smash community.

Perhaps you're being selective with your memory.

I agree with you, it is just that I never see people complaining as much as in the Smash community.

You should check out the communities for LoZ, MGS, FF, Halo.... every well-regarded series has its fanbase divided over something.

Have we cycled through every single Villager costume yet? I think they're all great!

But noone has shown off stripe girl yet or light green dead eyes. Anyone care to show those off as their favorites so we've got all 8 in one thread!? Lol

But seriously I like dead eye light green girl.

They're all on the imgur a few pages back!

Duck Hunt, not Duck Hunt Dog

You've been complaining more than everybody :p

Complaining about people wanting the Ice Climbers, complaining about competive players, complain complain complain.

Mega Man represents all the fun in Smash and Andross represents SmashBoards players looming in the background ready to vomit polygons on everything.

Vectoring or whatever it is called seems to not really have that much of a big impact. Extended survivability is possible, sure, but the damage to KO Jigglypuff above blast zone has very low difference with vector vs without vector. Combo potential can be influenced, but it still depends on how well you can read opponent's next move after knockback from hits or throws. We'll just have to wait and see before we judge if it is a bad thing.

Here's a rough draft GIF demonstrating how the DLC button may work:

my heart skipped a beat when I saw the Sunset Shore icon for a split-second until I realized this is just a mock-up.

Would making the stage icons smaller to accommodate DLC stages be that much of a problem when the bottom screen gives you a better look at what you're selecting?

I was under the assumption that he is only called Duck Hunt in the Japanese release. There's no way that's his name in the English version, right?

It's his name because you're not controlling just the dog, but also the duck, and the offscreen hunter (many of duck hunt's attacks are the offscreen hunter shooting at the screen).

guys you're not asking the important questions about vectoring or whatever we're gonna call it

how are we going to make fun of west coast for sucking at it

Can you make the equivalent for DLC characters? Maybe add the arrow next to Random?

I imagine that when you tab over to the DLC page, any unassigned icons (I.E. P2, CPU, etc), would be floating there and you could move them to the desired DLC character.

Ok so let's do some (probably wrong) math:

Strongbad's example shows that the difference between no input and VI down for a puff hit by G+W around 50% was 5%. If we assume linearity, that means that for every 10% of accumulated damage, 1% damage-worth of VI can be implimented. For the full range (up to down), this doubles to 2% damage-worth.

If we assume knockback hitstun is linearly related to damage (not correct, but close), than if you are knocked a given direction, the maximum range of VI distance is 5*2/50 or 10%.

If I'm correct, this means that if a player is sent into hitstun, the maximum distance he would be sent away with perfect VI is only 21/20 the normal distance. Not too big a change imo.

So DLC info has been mined out?
Kind of. Arrows have been found to theoretically swap between screens on the character select menu. This could either indicate potential DLC outer that the character select screen used to have multiple pages but got shrink either due to smaller icons or cut characters.

I'm gonna call him Duck Hunt Dog forever. Referring to the character as Duck Hunt is just weird.

That's like referring to Fox as Star Fox.

You need to stretch out the page icon, its the same size as the other stage icons in the files.

I'm not sure what the dimensions are naturally. I've just been operating off the screens Serebii Joe has on his website. That's partly why I haven't tackled the character select screen.

There doesn't seem to be any on the cart, but there are some buttons that suggest that the character and stage select screens had scrolling at some point in development.

Ah okay then.

I'm oddly okay with that.

If you look at one of his later posts, he says that DThrow combos for both ROB and Sheik that worked around 80% didn't work at 40%, it's potentially a pretty big nerf to an already tame combo game.
