This could be just test trash. Happens A LOT in games, so don't get excited.

Or it could be "Kept you witing, huh?" :-D

I think the post above is not a confirmation for DLC, but rather User generated content. By the ay is there a stagebuilder in the 3DS version?

Off topic but just something i noticed:

Smash 64 - 1 female character vs 9 male characters
(Pikachu, Jigglypuff gender neutral)

Melee - 5 females (incl. Nana and Sheik as separate) vs 18 males (incl. Popo)
(Pokemon all gender neutral)

Brawl - 6 females (incl. ZS Samus as separte) vs 28 males
(Pokemon*, ROB gender neutral)
*Pikachu was confirmed to be male by this point because of Diamond and Pearl's release which had gender differences, Pikachu's complete tail being one of them)

Sm4sh - 13 females vs 42 males
(Counted Koopalings separately, included Alph and Pokemon minus Pikachu, ROB and Duck Hunt gender neutral) - can anyone confirm if the Dog is male?

So to my point, while we have a greater number of females, over double, we still have a hugely male dominated cast. Not complaining, just an observation, there's only so many females characters to work with. It is good that the amount of females has more than doubled since Brawl though.

Where does this spelling come from? I always though it was typos but I see it too often and nwo this...

Text dumps and sound effects file names prove one more time Brawl was a development basis. Not surprising.

@HeavyMetalLover91: Your count is interesting a little bit harsh. I would not count Samus twice in Brawl, bc this lower Sakurai's idea to extends them to two full separate characters (same for Sheik).
Counting 6 koopalings + Alph totally fuck up the male count too.

However there is still work. Not including Impa is really a shame :/
Also, what about Yoshi? :)

Might be some Japanese programmer trying to write Sheik in romanji. シーク, SHI (Long vowel) KU. Just a shot in the dark.

Sheik is also "Shiek" in German.

Yeah I was kinda just judging it on how many girls you could really play as, so there is a little leeway on either side (although that just makes it worse for the female count)

I included Alph and the 6 other Koopalings because if you count Wendy you have to count the other guys too to make it fair.

And I was gonna have Yoshi as gender neutral but after some research it turns out he's a guy!

I wish they didn't teach us i before e except after c in school because I spell so many words wrong as that rule seems to never equate to true at all.

It does seem to just be a bad romanisation - didn't Melee have a different spelling error for Sheik as well? Though I guess it's possible that Sakurai only played the game in German and demanded the programmers name the files to reflect that.

It's not really a rule at all, there are more exceptions than situations where it is actually true. E before I after C would actually make more sense because there are fewer exceptions, and most of them are in plural words.

And Sheik ain't got no Cs or plurals.

Proof of DLC.

The following text appears in the Sm4sh Rom Dump:

Set the stages that won't appear, even when selection is set to random.
All Off
All On
Turn all stages off.
Make all stages available when using random stage selection.
See stages you have downloaded.
See all regular stages.
Select OFF to exclude this stage from random stage selection.
Select ON to include this stage in random stage selection.
It matches the stage selection in additional rules perfectly.

Also note the notice the missing square, just like in the stage selection screen. That's where you can select the DLC.

I originally posted this on Smashboards and then on Reddit.

Someone please explain!

So is "settle it in Smash" a thing now? By brother just used it in an argument we had (over text)... we are in Germany....

Maybe he is subscribed to the US Ninendo channel on youtube? Nintendo Deutschland on youtube just isn't as good.

I don't know enough about your brother to make more assumptions, but if you are a watching Nintendo content on youtube the chance to see those trailers probably isn't too bad.

Being German obviously didn't stop both of us us from knowing about the commercials either :p

Yeah we know it because we are on GAF, my brother isnt (as far as I know)...

Nonetheless German-Smash-Gaf should gather around and arrange some matches maybe, I mean we got the advantage that we get the physical game a day early :D

I think I first saw the commercials on /r/smashbros, but reddit is a US centric website as well :p

Yeah, we really should try to arrange some matches. I have a 10h Seminar at university on release date though (-_-) so it will probably be at least 20:00 before I have time for Smash ;-;

I hope German retailers break Street Date as liberally as with Mario Kart 8, getting SSB4 on Tuesday or Wednesday would be really sweet :D

I downloaded the demo but still worried about my circle pad coming off.

I have played it at least 30 times and no issues. Just play it like a regular game.

Anyways, it is interesting they ported over Brawl and then changed things around. Really my main issue with Brawl was not the engine but the decisions made. If Smash 4 really is a modified Brawl engine, then I am impressed because it fixed many faults. Although if that holds true, the download thing may be from stage builder from Brawl.

In fairness, "downloaded stages" could also mean custom stages are back and transferable to the 3DS version, no?

There'd be more evidence of custom stages if that were the case. Unless they plan a downloadable update, but eh. I don't think transferable custom stages would be something they'd care about leaving leftover in the game's files.

Quick question: Are there seriously no events in the 3DS or Wii U versions of the game? Those were always my favourite parts of the older games. A quick Google search didn't find me anything.

Not in the 3DS version. We don't really know anything about the Wii U modes.

i don't think the 3DS version isn't a modified brawl engine. It's more like they tried to port as much as possible to the new games from Brawl first and then appropriately adjust them to the engine
