Xbox One October Preview detailed

When will we get music in background rather than snapping?

Must be such a simple thing to do, even the 360 did it!
It's a system limitation at this point. It's a little puzzling, because it's not like background audio from applications on the Win 8.0 kernel wasn't supported.

There's no doubt they'll add it, just a matter of when.
did they fix mkv videos turning off after a few minutes ?
Yeah fixed for me. They still don't show up over DLNA for me though.

I think it's a combination of things. For starters they're missing an easy button command. They're also probably trying to make sure they're as high a quality as possible. Those two things might take some time to solve.

But it's got the word "smart" right there in the name.

I imagine the blunt of the work and reason for delay is simply because they have to integrate it into the activity feed and upload studio somehow. PS4 just saves it to your hard drive and/or uploads it to social media site.. There is quite a bit more background work involved with this feature on XB1 that would require more extensive work and testing.

That's my horribly uneducated assumption.

It's probably somewhere on the uservoice, but there's also a trueachievements app that has been announced, that seems to have advanced stats among its users.

Unrelated, but I really hope they'll fix the Xbox Fitness streaming soon, I have given up on doing any program this week-end because of the black screen bug or too frequent buffering. Seriously I don't know what could have messed it up since I had been using it flawlessly from May to July. If it is due to the OS beta, it would be reason enough for me to opt out.

Oh that's cool. I love more statistics.

Speaking of true achievements, did anybody else notice this in the october preview video?

I noticed Destiny doesn't show the achievement progressions (How big percentage on the way to unlocking you are).

Is this a bug, or does the game simply not support that?

Has anyone else had their console randomly crash and reboot? I'm hoping it's something to do with the dashboard preview.

Also, I've removed myself from the preview, how do I go back to the non-beta dashboard?

You don't, you wait until the october official release is out, get that and won't get any beta releases afterwards.

Any news about the possibility to take screenshots?
I'm really missing that in Destiny, share button on PS4 is plain great.

Got the update last night (finally got approved) and it rocks!

Not a preview question (this happened before the update), but I don't think it's worthy of a new thread. Does anyone else's Xbone just not connect to the internet when you wake it up? I'd say every fourth time I turn it on, either wired or wireless, it just doesn't connect to Live, and says it can't connect to my DHCP server when I "Test Connection"

Everything else on my network can get online just fine when I get this message. Putting the Xbone back into standbye and then waking it up again solves the problem. Wondering if it's just me and I should be concerned.

Not sure if this is just a beta thing but mine also does not also connect when coming from Standby. Weird issue.

Well, I'm glad it's not just me, even if it's a sucky issue. It happened to me before I downloaded the Beta, so it might just be a weird bug with some network configs.

I am no Google fan but I will try that out.
Though I need an explanation why apps load faster because of it.

The google DNS tends to resolve hostnames and such very quickly. if your default ISP DNS is shit and slow, you may well notice an improvement.

He works on the cloud projects based on what he said earlier.

Also, Microsoft needs to add a lot more gamerpics. They had it good with the 360 ones.

I still use my 360 gum avatar from JSR, will never change it until there's more then a few clip art images to pick from.

my app load times, yeah, 10 times might be to much, but still:
auto dns: friends - 15sec, achievements - 29sec (and snapped apps don't even open sometimes)
google dns: friends - 4 sec, achievnments - 6sec
snapped apps and overall speed is much better too,
finally using xbox now is not a painful experience, yay

Wait, so your DNS is why the apps have been so slow for some of you guys? I always wondered about some of the complaints about load times. I've never had those problems. Hopefully this helps some of you.

This is your ISP's fault more than Xbox really. Unless you run into other issues, using 8.8.8.8 for resolution is always great. Just use your IPS's dns as the secondary record and you'll be golden.
