If some of the guys in Japan know English, then it wouldn't be as hard. Not this one, but my previous job as an Art Director was all done via phone, skype & email. They could easily make a small design team in the US or Canada and work with the team in Japan by fixing a lot of these issues. I'm scratching my head constantly at the little fucks up that I see them make, it's shocking they haven't figured it out yet. :p

I wonder why Andrew House can't see this obvious issue. He seemed to be on top of the game when they announced the PS4.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Just depends on the person then really. Updates for me never took more than 10 minutes at the most (one of the reasons they never really bothered me), while downloading games is a chore.
Yeah I use to hear people say downloading games took nearly a day updates was hours but took me minutes for updates and a hour max for large size games, strange thing is their internet was 5-6 times faster and their 360 was more realistic.

Games like Skyrim were ok because they were about 50MB, but I remember BF3 and 2GB update.

Pain..... Was painful.

Gigabytes upon gigabytes of mandatory updates, what for?
DLC that you then had to pay to unlock.

Same with LBP

Unless something has changed or come up internally...

2.0 will be out before or on October 7th, according to the (albeit google translated) press release regarding the glacial white PS4 in Japan.

I do remember hearing/reading about 2.0 coming out Sept 26 during the TGS presser but never found any other source or instance to back this up...

Also to those bitching about DLNA support and suspend and resume support....

DLNA is a lot more involved than just slapping hooks into system to allow functionality, if Sony wants to duplicate what they did with DLNA on PS3 a lot of red tape is involved as they included DTCP-IP support which is a proprietary, licensed system that allows the playback of Copy-Once channels that are streamed from devices like HDHomerun Prime.

A lot of devices that DLNA certified do not support the protocol.

The suspend/resume is also a not an easy programming task, FreeBSD and NetBSD (the OS the PS4 system software is run on) doesn't officially support (it's implemented but it's about as stable as Ford Pinto in terms reliability and compatibility) suspending and resume OS.

Add the fact that the PS4 uses a unique memory pool that's not used on most systems and also has a separate processor with its own architecture and memory (ARM-based with 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM) is something that isn't implemented in a few weeks but months as it's system function that has to account for the bulk of the contents in memory.

No you are not allowed to sound like you know what you are talking about. You need to get pissed and act like lack of suspend/resume is ruining your gaming experience :)

Share play is a much cooler feature by far

I never understood the need for a suspend/resume feature where you can be in-game from cold boot in less than a minute. Plus it just seems a bit of a waste when you take into account power draw and heat when something is suspended from that big of a memory pool. I obviously see the benefits for portables but it just seems a bit unneeded imo

Tbe fact that Sony promised it and that they've actually already shown the feature working in some form means that they'r ed confident about delivering it.

Has anyone from Sony acknowledged the lack of online friend notifications?

It seems ridiculous that we're this far along and still don't have such a basic feature. If those aren't included in 2.0 I'll be amazed.

Because it was initially promised as a launch feature.
I would probably still own Killzone with its shitty checkpoint system had this been in place.
The DLNA option is just a comical joke now, it is in place in $20 devices but it's a hurdle for a fleet of Sony engineers even though they invented it.A happy coincidence that they have a video service while we wait

It would help if the party chat doesn't crash randomly here and there, or just not work sometimes even though I'm online. It would help to have some custimizable options because just about everything you do is about as intuitive as something made in 2004. The UI/UX designers/devs seem to be clueless about this other than the basic format of the system. You invite friends and have to go through 3 screens just to do instead of having a simple function for it. Why can't you make your party chat and let it stay there instead of creating a new one every time? That way, I can have chats for my TLOU friends, Destiny friends and FIFA friends. They can also join, depending on the customization, a word the Sony team doesn't seem to fucking know the meaning off considering the lack of options on everything you use.

I watched the latest Podcast Beyond. Greg Miller is very likely making a new account since every time he tries to do something with his friends (accept name go below to letters "B"), it crashes. He said he would wait it out until Sony would fix it. It's been nearly a year and he's giving up now, which I do not blame him. Shu and other Sony members listen to every episode, and yet they haven't fixed this issue. Shu said the team did not program it so they can change the username of the PSN, one of the major complaints during the PS3 era. Yeah, it is about games but the lack of options and comical mistakes Sony makes sometimes, you have to wonder where the fuck that mandatory PS+ money is going, because it certainly isn't going to making a bigger team that make the OS/online experience a lot better.. or at it certainly doesn't look like it anyways.

You have to send in your PS4 to get it fixed, you have to individually save every single save file to the cloud or on a USB. Why? How do you not think of adding a simple, extra option to include all of them? For fucks sake Sony, common sense!

I know it's always easier to be couch coach of every situation, but it's comical how barebones the OS is in terms of options and how little bugs keep crashing my PS4. Despite my overuse of the word fuck, I'm not that mad about it. I deal with it, but there's a lot of those little examples that I listed and they do add up. The PS+ mandatory online to me is just for the suits, because I see 0 evidence of them putting it to good use.

I never had any problems with party chat. Or maybe i don't use many chat parties but only one with the friends i want to play with. I've been playing Destiny since it came out and to be honest, i've had zero problems. It works very well for me, never crashed.

I have an Xbox One and while the system is getting up to date a little faster than PS4. It also has its problems even though MS are a software company.

There are some annoying things about the PS4 though. Custom music is one of them but then again it's better implemented than XB1 because at least i don't need to snap the thing in order for it to work. PSN id change is one of the most requested features, i guess they made their system in a way to make it very very hard to implement because i don't believe Sony don't want free money that it generates from changing id's. MS charges 10$ per name change...

Bottom line, there are good and bad things software wise on both platforms. I have both and i still prefer the PS4 fast and simple solution. To me, it works perfectly. Yes it does lack some options here and there but overall, the OS is solid ! To me, speed is the most important factor and the PS4 nails it big time compared to the competition.

I didn't want to bring the XB1 into the discussion but we gotta compare since everyone seems to be praising MS for their regular updates but to be honest, the XB1 OS at the beginning was a real joke. It's better but not that better.

People complained about the constant firmware updates on the PS3 so Sony obliged with the PS4. Suddenly monthly updates are all the rage. There are many things that have flipped this generation to suit a certain demographic.

People complained because on PS3 when you turned the console on you got hit with an update which meant you couldn't do shit until it had updated.

On PS4 the updates happen automagically if on standby therefore eradicating the previous issue.

I honestly couldn't care less if the updated my console every freaking week. Just get the shit in it that was promised and don't be silent on the issue for nearly a year.

Xbox has updates every month and you can opt Into Beta access too. Why can't Sony do this?

Because reasons? Seriously :I

it has nothing to do with the boot time. it's about "pausing" your game and picking up exactly where you left off

It doesn't install them by itself though, as you need to accept the EULA.

Europe had PS3 compatible PlayTV device(DVB-T tuner+pvr) but I guess it went to hibernate maintenance quite soon. One of the big letdowns were no DVB-C support. I am suprised they bring or update Nasne(Torne) apps o PS4, PSVita and broader Android devices.

Torne/Nasne and PlayTV were developed separately and stayed in their own markets. Nasne has been getting consistent support since its release.

Honestly this being removed is a god send. With 2000 friend list support, I'd hate to see someone log in/off every fucking second. Worse is when one person is fucking with their network settings and keep going in/out of PSN with constant notifications to everyone.

IF they add friends notification, the DS4 should just make a little boop noise like a cell phone or make the Android/iOS app send you notifications when someone is online/off. We dont need it on PS4 OS.

Can't the Xbone do this already?

Yes, but it's because MS is a "software" company so it is ok for some that that Sony drags it's ass even though it was literally one of the first features announced during the unveiling.

Talking suspend resume, DLNA is left out on purpose (imo obviously) to herd you to their video offerings.
The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a nonprofit collaborative trade organization established by Sony in June 2003, that is responsible for defining interoperability guidelines to enable sharing of digital media between multimedia devices

My $35 Chromecast can do this but it is too much for the powerhouse that is the PS4, give me a break.

Plex works via the web browser so it is no longer a big priority for me and I can retire my PS3

Exactly my problem. If they would at least acknowledge these wanted features. A simple list on the PS blog to say in development.

As much as I get annoyed by the people joining voice parties, I can imagine how painful all the so and so just logged in will be.

For certain games it definitely would for me. Notifications cover up your map when you're playing Destiny. I'm tired of PSN telling me that someone on my friends list got into a party that isn't mine and blocking up part of my screen to tell me things I don't need to know.

As much as I get annoyed by the people joining voice parties, I can imagine how painful all the so and so just logged in will be.
They can just let us toggle these notifications on or off to our individual preference. Sorted.

I'd like to see user craftable themes, friend online notifications, and 16+ person text chat rooms.

The latter in particular is awesome for online gaming when you're in a clan or big gaming group. You set up a single permanent chatroom (e.g. NeoGAF EU Destiny) and then people who want to play that game just join that chat room when they're ready, and leave it when they want to play something else. You can instantly ask what other people are playing in the game, who is looking for an extra squad member, etc., and know that the only people getting the messages are the ones who actually want to see them. Trying to do the same via party chat doesn't work because:
A. There's an 8 person limit; and
B. It's chaos when 8 different people are playing across different matches/servers.

Bring back text chat! It's silly that it's easier to coordinate online gaming on the PS3 than it is on the PS4.

IF they add friends notification, the DS4 should just make a little boop noise like a cell phone or make the Android/iOS app send you notifications when someone is online/off. We dont need it on PS4 OS.

The Xbox One solves this by allowing you to have an option to only show notifications for those you "Favorite". I have 200 something friends on XBL, but I only have like 6 or 8 people in my favorites list, and thus, those are the only ones I receive notifications about.

There are ways they can solve that problem without just not having them at all.

In addition to the Xbox style "favorites" which works well, it would also be great if I could tag friends by game, so I could mark a friend whom I met in Destiny with "Destiny" and I only get notifications about him while I'm playing Destiny, or when he starts Destiny or something.

I still would really like this feature.

That's assuming it's not delayed. Just because it's in a press release doesn't mean it can't be changed after the fact. Though hopefully it's sooner rather than later.

I'm assuming it's delayed :(

Has there been any recent news about the 2.0 patch?
