That's really sad to see. It's true, it did feel as if this game was sent to die which I found super strange when it seemed like the kind of title Microsoft would embrace in order to improve their image with fans. It's never going to be a massive seller, but a little extra support could have gone a long way.

I really loved it, though. Such a weird adventure game.

Bringing it out on PS4 would indeed increase sales, but only because the PS4 has a higher install base, not because of its Japanese audience.
Traditionally, it does seem as if PlayStation fans in the west are more likely to embrace Japanese style games since the platform (PS1 and PS2 specifically) were built upon them. I'm not sure how much a difference it would have made at this point, though.

Yeah, I wonder why the publisher chose not to release a PS4 version?

Because of Microsoft's dough. That's the only reason why.

This is a joke post, right? right?

Platinum games should release Bayonetta 2 also on PS4 to boast PS4 sales also?

I'm just speaking common sense; no need to get offended. Heck, Sony started advertising on some of their games & are helping FROM Software out on co-developing Bloodborne.

I would've bought this if I had an xb1.

Same...

Also: a game coming out of nowhere, with zero advertise, isn't selling well? How surprising!

Deadly Premonition is one of the game I enjoyed the most in the past 10 years, so D4 is a must have for me (the day I'll get a One or if it gets released on PS4 or PC), but it's not surprising that the "mass market" public isn't responding well... :/

Well, I picked up Deadly Prem on ps3, so I'm kinda waiting for D4 to come to ps4. Just cant justify getting a xbone for this game.

It's not going to come to PS4. It's published + funded by Microsoft.

Maybe you can get an XBO a year or two down the line when they're cheaper and there's more stuff out for it. Although, by then Swery51 will have starved to death in a homeless shelter, you heartless bastard!

While I think D4 could conceivably make it to PC, and I do think Microsoft exceptionally fucked up on this game's release, I wonder what it says to manufacturers that bankrolling and publishing games now just leads to a lot of people complaining that they shouldn't have done that.

The money they used to make the game? This (and Bloodborne) are first party games for their respective publishers. They wouldn't exist without Microsoft (or Sony). Microsoft just did a shitty job at advertising D4 (and by that I mean they didn't advertise it at all).

Yeah, perhaps when a slimmer model comes out. I mean, I loved DP.

I've been on the fence with D4.

As a huge Lynch fan, I wanted to love Deadly Premonition. So much so, that bought it twice, once for both platforms. But, that game is terrible. I know the story and characters make up what people love about it, and I hope I can finish it some day, but, actually playing that game is the worst.

Everything I've seen of D4 looks similar, but, just more silly. Is the game actually good this time? Or is it just another "look how crazy it is" kind of game?

I really disliked DP, but I love D4.

If you feel like Telltale games pass your minimum bar for acceptable gameplay, D4 does that.

Swery solved the "crap gameplay" problem by making it an adventure game (basically). You walk around and investigate stuff, talk to people etc. But you don't have to fight large numbers of zombies or drive around places anymore.

The kinect controls are a blessing and a curse, they are awesome and fun during the "setpieces" where it's basically doing fancier quick time events, but it's pretty clunky during the slow exploration phase. But you can play it with a conventional controller anyway, so its a moot point I guess.

my boy mrbob was trying to sell me on this game. on one hand i do have too many games to play right now, with more coming out soon. on the other hand i would like to support this.... we'll see. if the 49ers win tomorrow i will buy the game

Since D4 isn't a big game, i don't think MS would mind this release on PC even with Phil Spencer in charge right now
I mean, games like Ori(IP own by MS) also coming to PC, or like lococycle released on PC few months after XB1 version released.

I really really hope it does at least well enough to warrant a second season... I loved every second of this game. Very unique.

Good luck, Swery! Can't wait for that soundtrack.

When you say the game ended in a cliffhanger, how much of a cliffhanger are we talking about here?

Some serious stuff is about to go down and it's only happening in the next episode kind of cliffhanger. Freeze frame, to be continued, and everything.

I know, & Microsoft did do a shitty job of advertising it.

Just saying, had this game came out on both on PS4 & Steam, then the sales for the game would've most definitely gone through the roof. Sony would've advertised it, as would Valve. They would've had no problem advertising niche games like this. Even other posters on this thread are saying the same thing.

If this game is as good as people are saying, it's criminal that it was released without fanfare right on top of Destiny.

Personally, I haven't got this yet because I have been balls deep in Destiny. It's pay day for a lot of people in the UK on Tuesday and because of this thread (great job OP!) I will buy it, even if I wont play it for a while. I was watching some vids on Upload and it looks funny as hell.

Take the hit and greenlight more episodes anyway - if it continues to sell poorly. Put this first season or whatever on Games with Gold as soon as possible. Give Swery whatever he fucking needs to keep making games. Come on Phil.

Was D4 at any Microsoft conferences this year? If not I have to think that would have helped the game a lot. When Sony is putting games like Entwined on their E3 stage, don't see why MS can't do something similar.

It's not exactly an overlapping audience.

get pewdiepie to play it or something.

MS really needs to throw out an advert or something, at least an online campaign at the very least.

Bought. Love this kind of passion for something, and hey - I've been getting Microsoft money pretty cheap recently between sales/promotions. I'm hoping it's more Snatcher-esque than Telltale-esque, but whatever!

Would either of them have paid for the actual development of it though?

The premise sounds great. Like others here though I've no xbone. Would have jumped at a Wii U version.

Is the IP tied up with microsoft? Maybe kickstarter for the rest of the episodes and to fund other platform versions.

You could try and get Pewdiepie to play the game (like he did with The Walking Dead). That would bring in millions of eyes on the product but people would also probably never play it themselves because they already saw Pewdiepie play through it.

Youtube is killer for these kind of games. I nearly caved once on an Asura's Wrath 6 hour video but decided to buy the game anyway. No regrets.

Bought D4 when it came out. Enjoyable product for 15 bucks.

I just bought it. Hadn't seen or heard anything about this game since E3, so I hope it's good. Why haven't the big sites like IGN, Gamespot, and Polygon reviewed this game yet? I think the TGS stealth drop is hurting the game. It's been out 2 weeks and i haven't heard nothing about D4...

I Feel sorry for Swery he seems like cool peeps, i didn't buy deadly premonition on ps3 because I saw enough of the gameplay to know it wouldn't be fun, now a game comes out that I'd be all for diving into and I don't ever intend to buy the console it's on, I hope it gets more attention before the second part comes out, he took a huge risk going single platform, even though it's not a platform I want to own, I feel like this game deserves to do better.

This is awful logic. Sega could have done the same thing with Bayonetta 2, but felt it wasn't worth the risk of another loss to make a minority of gamers happy. Nintendo felt it was worth the risk and now it might come back to bite them. This is why publishers generally ignore public outcry.

I don't think we can make that sort of claim, there are so many other factor to consider. It was always going to be a niche game no matter the platform. Deadly Premonition only crossed 50,000 3 months after it launched.

Releasing it during TGS isn't a terrible idea, the execution was just bad. If Microsoft had a stage show and announced that it was releasing the next day, that could have worked. D4 was originally supposed to come out in February, who knows how well it would have done if it was released back then?
