Glitch in Destiny reveals DLC details and content is partially on Disc

I did a daily heroic story mission last week which was one of the middle Mars missions. I hadn't finished Venus in the campaign at that point so it kind of ruined the sequence and spoilered a new planet for me without warning. Fortunately the plot is garbage so little of value was lost story-wise.

That's insulting to garbage.

What am I "falling" for? Liking the game?

Do you really like it though? I mean, just think about it. Are you actually enjoying your time with a game that has a sub-80 Metascore? I mean, come on...

I hope we can have threads for every PC game that has a "DLC" folder and claim the content is already there at launch.

It's kinda funny in an Ironic way that back in that infamous Destiny thread people were using these areas as 'proof' that Destiny had more content on Earth.

That's probably the most upsetting thing to me. I was one of those defenders, believing that we would revisit those areas in Old Russia once we were leveled up and prepared for the Legendary battles. I bought the hype that the Beta was just that, a Beta and those areas were only locked off for the test run. I'm still having fun with the game, but I think they were very misleading around the time of the Beta, and I bought into the idea that they wanted things to be a surprise.

Not even a new planet?
Come on...

That is what I was going to come in to say. So basically no new locations, just the same that we have now, but in a different configuration. I really wanted something new, like a new area of Earth, not Old Russia.

BS, there a a lot better shooters available out there for current gen and even more for last gen. Unless of course they beat all of them.

And theres a better loot game as well/
Yep there are but lets be honest. Destiny is the biggest game launch for next gen consoles within the past month. Thats why people are playing it. Sure some geniunely enjoy it but most bought it because next gen is pretty bare and destiny looked to be a worthwhile purchase. Most people simply go from new aaa game to new aaa game and right now destiny is the newest aaa out.

Bungie would have easily known this was going to happen during contact negotiations and development.

Yep. I'm not sure how Bungie is blameless here. The staff knew what they were getting into and also knew they were releasing a game that's light on content and absolutely devoid of story.

I predict all these DLC multiplayer maps will kill off the community by splitting it. Call of Duty in its glory days this ain't. A Titanfall-ish fate.

I don't know, man, I dunno. Some people on GAF say I shouldn't like it, or I'm being tricked, so thankfully I'm on this forum otherwise I'd be lost with liking things I like.

Keyword(s): Partially on the disc. :p

Reminds me of Mortal Kombat. People whined that Netherrealm sucked because Skarlett was on the disc (i.e. in cutscenes and in a background = fully playable character!!!!).

Then when Freddy Krueger was a like 300kb download = raaaage, Freddy is on the disc!!! (forgetting the patch they just downloaded, that included Freddy on it)

Like with many games, maybe it's stuff that was cut from the game because of lack of time and/or polish. Same way people found data of cut/unfinished stuff in Wind Waker on GameCube. Though we just accepted that it was just that. In this times, at least we can expect to see it at some time. Doesn't mean that it was cut with the sole intention of charging people for more things.

The beta was like a quarter of the game.

I really wish now they hadn't included the Moon in the beta, it was really cool at the time but I had no idea I'd seen half of the locations in the entire game.

The entire time I was going through the story I kept thinking "Ok...come on...just can't wait to get past Earth and Moon to the new stuff". Then before I knew it, it was over.

I'm not the biggest fan of the game but come on man. There's absolutely no evidence that there was a fully functional planet that they simply cut out for DLC. The Reef SHOULD have been in the full game, IMO, but that doesn't mean that it was ready.

Bud, they had 6 years to make this game. With a huge studio.

smh at the over reactions here, I doubt that's all the first DLC's packs will include but of course the same people that bitch about DLC will whine and complain trying to push there agenda.

Well if you think about it, each DLC will have about the same content as a single planet, except in new areas of the same planet.

People, go to the destinytracker; they had those mission titles and locations for a long time now. Also, they got story blurbs for each, and it seems those missions were designed as parts of the campaign. It all starts to make sense know, doesn't it ;)

You know. I'm ok with that. I personally would rather see them flesh out the planets they do have before moving on to others. I'm all for adding more content to the areas they have and then even going back to cut areas and adding them back. Imagine adding Old Chicago in via an expansion along with another location on say mars or venus, etc. Then the 2nd game you could add a couple new planets with maybe a couple locations.

I wish they had gone with their original story:

I understand the frustration with the content on disk but not the lack of dlc content. A single Raid alone is probably worth 4-6 hours, as long as it's the same length as VoG. That seems like a fair amount of content for 20$. It probaby needs more missions though.

I believe him. I've been playing PVP, strikes and raids. Haven't even started the moon missions yet.

But that means he was deceitful with that statement, the context was "the game is content starved", going "I played 40 hours and only got half way through the campaign" in that context implies that a significant part of those 40 hours were spent on the campaign or at least there's enough varied content that he needed 40 hours just to see half of it.

Yeah and I'm not arguing there should have been more. I'm just saying we don't have any proof that something was finished and then removed for DLC.

I think there's a lot of signs at this point that something went wrong during development because the finished product does not match up with the time and resources Bungie had at their disposal. But that doesn't mean we have to make baseless claims.

We don't really need a new planet, just new areas on the existing planets that we have. That would be fantastic. There is soo much they can do with what they already have. Especially on Earth with diverse environments.

Well here we go again. A brand new opportunity to shit on Destiny some more, hooray!

Content starved game? In my 40+ hours of playing the game I'm just about on the halfway point of the campaign alone...

Bungie has been clear from the very beginning that destiny would be a game that is built upon over time, so the "oh no! There are hooks in this game for future expansions! Bungie is teh evil!" Kinda stuff is a bit transparent.

Heck even nintendo built hooks into Mario Kart for future expansions. It's the way a ton of games work these days.

40 hours?

It took me around 8 hours to beat the game.

Calm down man. We don't know how much of this content is actually ready to play. It's probably unfinished.

Haha I am calm, not bent out of shape seeing as I did buy all the DLC. Its not only Destiny im talking about how everyone does it now a days. To get the complete version its gonna cost 90 bucks these days or wait a year. How is something considered DLC when its already on the disc?

South America earth level in the rainforests plz.

Edit: As I said this I realized what a bitch it would be to traverse that in the speeder....

The Level 10 strike really puts the nail in the coffin. Whether they were cut due to greed or time constraints, it's obvious that they were CUT at some point.

Yeah, plus any game is of infinite length if you replay things endlessly before finishing it. I might as well say The Last of Us' story took me two months of playtime...because I paused it and left my PS3 on.

Yep. Thinking about it (and realizing it is that), those DLCs don't seem worth $15 at all. The game itself doesn't seem worth $60.

The saddening increases.

Ah, that is unfortunate indeed. They shouldnt have included it on the disc because they should know that people will complain about it for some reason. It would be better to just keep it off the disc and people wouldnt have said anything.

Is the Old Cosmodrome for the Wolf Expansion...

And Shadow Warrior is coming out on consoles this October. Probably the best shooter of 2013!

2nd actually. We don't get to see any new places in the first except locked off areas of earth, mars and the moon.

Ghost are in the game, locked behind area we can't access.

Vault too (seraphim and charlemagne vaults) Seraph's is under Forgotten Shore, can be access with no clip under map bugs

Now this.

DLC sucks. But On DISC content locked away is illegal to me. I bought the disc. I should own everything on it and have access to it

You know. if that is true and that's a big if it actually sounds kind of interesting. Hell who's to say the game still might not be headed that way if it were?

Either way I can't wait to find out more in the future.

How can Bungie be happy with Activision I don't know

The reverse is probably just as likely. Activision probably thought they were getting a game people enjoyed playing for ten years like Halo. Instead you now have people fully maxed, just grinding caves for some gear. No one really cared for the story, the PvP is so unbalanced. I have so many Bungie/Halo fans who have already traded it in or stopped playing.

I blame Bungie the most. They left MS for the company that destroyed Infinity Ward. They didn't like being forced to make Halo anymore, so they chose the company that will nickel and dime them on Destiny. Is there a franchise Activision has that hasn't been ruined in a sense? They ruined Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, you can argue Call of Duty etc.

I would have been much more satisfied with that plot tbh
More satisfied, yes, since it has events and plot points.

Satisfied? No. Still a lame, predictable story outline.

I believe this is real because Joseph Staten. Hopefully with his absence, a better outline will one day exist once story enters the franchise.
