New Driveclub gameplay

GT5 outsold Forza 1-4 combined and GT6 is by far the best selling racing sim even though it's selling less than usual.

I don't know why they included that quote.

To grab attention because DC is a new IP coming out the same time as a Forza game.
Of course this can always back fire on the marketing team and Sony .

Anyone fancy playing DRIVECLUB this Saturday at Evolution?

Well if you can make it to Cheshire (UK) then send me a PM and I'll see if I can get you an invite.

Damn, if it was closer and I wasn't working Saturday, I'd have popped down. To the guys that do go, enjoy! I'm already jelly!

Gt's mindshare is quickly diminishing, 5 year dev cycle doesn't help and neither will having ps2 cars and tracks in a PS4 game. (...)

That's completely offtopic, but I don't see how Forza would be a threat to GT. Software sales and recognition are not even close and being so far behind in hardware sales too with the Xbox One won't help the series either. It sounds more like wishful thinking. Sony has nothing to fear right now... Maybe if XBO sales were better.

Is too little change... Is hard to explain the feeling with words but from the videos they do feel like corridors.

Mind you, I have this game preordered since the first day it was possible to preorder it, so Im not a basher for the sake of being one.
Don't worry, even if you're extremely interested and excited for the game, any small concern will warrant people shit taking you across neogaf. Too late now.

The IQ is better than it's ever been in the past, it's just not as good as super sampled (obviously). The main thing is that IQ is still incredible, and issues that were plaguing the game previously (mainly power lines) have been vastly improved, as can be seen in the screenshots above.

Hopefully we can get IQ like the previous footage with this level of visual fidelity at some point this gen. Will be really cool if that happens.

Ah, maybe I wasn't mistaken after all. :)

Back on topic though, game looks nice from the screens. Hopefully I'll get a chance to look at some of the videos tomorrow.

Same track, at 2:24 (edit: closer to 3 minute mark on stream) it opens up to a very wide road.

I think people think the "corridor racer" complaint is silly because most racing happens on tracks like that... so it's like criticizing a racing game for being a racing game.

Why is everything so blurry in the pics though, it kinda looks like ryse on X1.

Yeah after gamersyde pictures and footage the IQ is great to me. Even the powerlines (the main problem people had) look nice.

No, you definitely were. :D

Trust me. But seriously... This is my PGR4. And I don't think people understand just how immaculate that game was. I have high hopes for this game.

I was serious when I asked if the tire screeching sounded off, maybe it was just the YouTube vid.

Really wanna get out of this class so I can watch these videos. Fucking sucks.

I have a 5 month old baby to look after and DIY stuff to do, my younger self who would happily drive 200 miles to meet someone for a pint would be mocking the old responsibility ridden me.

*shakes fist, shouts "get off the lawn" etc.

So should I upload my shit to gamersyde now that Sony seems to be okay with it?

They said you can't upload to Gamersyde, but you can always upload to Mega.

Doubtful. Electricity cables, finite fencing, intricacies in linear geometry etc are things that can be exorbitantly expensive to smoothen with AA solutions. Hell, I remember even back in the day, to get rid of jaggies on power lines in HL2 in City 17, even 4xMSAA wouldn't do the trick, if I remember correctly, I had to use 8xTrSSAA or something similar. Then again, there are better AA algorithms these days so who knows.

It's a shame InFamous SS's AA solution wouldn't work for DriveClub (their own version of SMAA T2x), due to the ghosting it can conjure up during quick motion, because that seems to be among the cleanest console IQ we've seen yet.

It's not gonna kill GT obviously, but with the amount of sims across consoles and PC, GT's total marketshare is gonna decrease, I mean after seeing the likes of DC and PCars on your PS4 with their amazing detail will you want to see PS2 lowres shitty models, hear shitty engine sounds and have the same crappy tire screech that you've been hearing for the last 15 years?

What does corridor racing even mean? This is a circuit racer no?

It's origins lie buried deep within this very thread. An ex-poster called c0de decided that he liked to 'explore' the environment of a track racing game and declared they the timer thing made it feel like 'a corridor'.

Thus 'corridor racer' was born.

Corridor racers are like, 99% of racing games. It's a bad thing. Very very bad. It's generic and not truly next-gen.
FH on the other hand is open world, so that's good.

So is it now agreed upon that they released supersampled gameplay footage without disclosing that it was not representative of the real product?

If so, isn't this an actual outrage? The ship has sailed on deceptive still shots, and those are basically irrelevant given the ubiquity of video, but if publishers or devs get it in their head that it's totally okay to release "enhanced" gameplay footage mere weeks before their games come out, then we're really in trouble. All that ire aimed at games journalism ought to be redirected toward anyone who willingly lies about their product. If this is true, I'll repeat.

It could be possible but then it would most probably mean a hit to the screen resolution. Perhaps in the region of 720p to 1080p it could quite well be achievable. However, I'm not sure many people would take that.

Ok, i finally finished downloading the Scotland one. And I don't how that is looking "flat." It looks stupid good!!! I am really impressed in the dynamic variations of lighting and shadows as the car runs through the track. It's remarkable, a very lifelike.

I guess some people prefer a more exaggerated over processed art style or something. But all the amazing things tha's going on in that Scotland video can't be denied.

Isnt the Forza killer line supposedly a quote from another publication?

So, its not really Sony PR stating it, just quoting someone else.

What are you talking about? Some random site uploaded the video, big deal. Probably some promotional clip. Evo have provided us with gameplay footage non stop since this games inception, and yet again they've offered up a whole new batch of high quality capture via Gamersyde, something barely any other publishers are doing. I don't see the outrage here. One video doesn't change that.

somebody go to Evo and take your DFGT to test it out.

Actually I'd be curious how it plays with a T300. As an arcadey racer it would be easy to just play with a controller and hold off any wheel purchase until the next GT.

All you've gotta do is purchase me a first class ticket from the Easter USA, and I'm there!

What? Dude, it's not incredible. It's not even great. There is a distinct lack of clarity. They got rid of some of the aliasing, but a lot is still there and there's dithering all over the place and just general disappointment in that area. The visuals are going to have to be especially incredible to make up for the disappointing IQ (thankfully they seem to be up to the task).

What are you comparing it to? I think it's pretty damn good.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
I must admit, I wish the Driveclub booth at EGX had wheels instead of controllers.

The game looked fun, but the handling just felt off using the PS4 gamepad. I'm far too used to playing racers with my DFGT I suppose but didn't enjoy my time with the game because of that. The AI seemed a bit rubbish and completely oblivious of my existence, but I guess that should be expected at EGX!

Aside from that, the game looked fantastic and felt smooth, so that's good. I certainly need more time with the game though, that's for sure.
