Underrated and Overlooked fighting games

Some fighting games you think are overlooked and such.

I wanna nominate Darkstalkers. I prefer that over Street Fighter. *though Lilith is a creepy character and shouldn't have existed* Too bad there will be little to no chance of a new one ever happening.

OH and i do like Pocket Fighters. It is cute.

Fighter's Megamix or just straight vanilla Fighting Vipers. Both for the Sega Saturn. God, if Sega released an HD remaster I'd go nuts!

Virtua Fighter is generally ignored. Some recent games get credit for having "great" training modes, but they're still not at VF4: Evo's level.

Because it is Sonic yo. Sonic, no matter how many mediocre and bad games he has, seems to sale.

Sonic Battle was cool though

Breaker's Revenge. Surprisingly solid mechanics and it gets kudos for having the greatest mirror match of 2D fighters.

Also Last Blade series which is beautifully designed

VF2, FV and StF were all model 2 arcade games and Fighters Megamix was just a Saturn game

interestingly enough for a while FM was the only way VFers could practice the VF3 moves at home. game has a full command training mode and Janet from virtua cop has aoi's moves.

I could list mine, but most of them fall into the category of "great 90's/00's Capcom fighters that will never sell 2 million units or more". Outside of those, I'd nominate Bushido Blade.

Not overlooked as a series, but I feel KOF99 doesn't get as much love as it should. Kinda the black sheep of the family.

Would Tatsunoko vs Capcom fit? It isn't underrated, but it seemed like very few people cared about it.


I've been hearing good things about Rival Schools lately.

yeah breakers revenge is amazing...i think if it had a more interesting art style it could have blown up.

Street Fighter x Tekken, its a better SF game than SF4. In terms of 2D, Breaker's Revenge is fantastic. Also, Fatal Fury Special is great.

I agree with the OP about the Darkstalkers love. I would love another entry in that franchise.

There's a lot of games people seem to like that are obscure or overlooked or whatever, but I can't say I'm fans of most of them (JoJo's for example).

Some of the games listed... I'm not sure if they're even fighters... Powerstone always seemed like a brawler of some sort, like some relative of Super Smash Bros.

VF4 and VF5 never did it for me and if anything, I think they're overrated/overhyped.

All that said, I don't feel like Skullgirls gets enough love for what it is.
Yatagarasu is coming out and it's probably under a lot of gamers' radars.

This too. I loved SFxT... the juggles were so much fun. I wish that Capcom would patch out GFWL and finish the updates to the PC version. :\

I came here to mention this game; super happy to see it get brought up so quickly! Had so much fun with it on Saturn. I'd love to see it re-released in some capacity (whether a remaster or even just a virtual console deal).

I feel Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII is underrated. I actually had a great time playing that game.
