RE Castaway Paradise

Played for an hour approximately.
I can definitely see the appeal of the game, and also myself playing it for a while.
However, I have a few issues with it:
- Intrusive ads when entering and leaving buildings. I understand the need of placing ads somewhere to help monetize the game, but there needs to be a better place to play them. Maybe go with a system of optional adds, and a reward of a few gems or pearls after watching one?
- The camera is a little bit too close to the main character, and this makes it difficult to move up. I've read the camera is placed this way to optimize performance, but maybe it could be slightly adjusted in more powerful devices (I'm playing in an iPhone 5S and an iPad Air).
- And talking about the iPad, the bigger screen together with the too-close-to-the-player camera is a bit jarring.
- Finally, regarding inventory management: I kept getting items and they kept disappearing from my 15-slot inventory. I had to google why that was happening, and read that the new items were moving to some sort of storage, that can apparently be accessed through chests.
Did I miss the in-game explanation, or there is none?
Also, where can I find chests? I looked for them for a while and found none.

All in all, I think the game has potential, but there's still a few issues that need to be ironed out.

Bamihap, I'd appreciate if you have the time to comment on these (or, at least, answer to the last question! :p ).

There's a chest in your house/tent. Look for a chest of drawers, and also I think in the "Town Hall".
Just had a crash while posting a Facebook update after catching my first fish.
This was before this mornings update so I'll see if my fish is still there.

Oh, wow, I was looking for an actual chest, a Zelda-like chest, not a chest of drawers!
Thanks. :)

Just completed The Banner Saga.

Absolutely fantastic, one of the best games I ever played.

I really recommend it if you like good stories.
Killer ending....I'm still in shock.

I strongly hope Banner Saga 2 is imminent.
Still undecided about what is best: story, combat, music or graphics.

I'll surely do another playthrough on hard (normal is a tad easy).

Going through Skullduggery! (Apple´s Recommendation and got a Gold Award from PocketGamer), was a long time since iOS got such a quirky and fun game. The Angry Birds slingshot mechanic is better implemented here, a lot of replayability, no IAP, brilliant ideas, excellent controls, fun moments, a new world coming soon. Its terrific. A lot of fun. And premium. What more could I ask for?

Great to hear new levels are coming. Game absolutely deserves that Editor's Choice feature

Absolutely. It even got it in Spain... we need more games like this one for sure, hope it sells quite well.

Today we got another surprise: Electronic Super Joy: Groove City, 5$ and comes with a Steam Key too).

Oh shit, ESJ on IOS! Finally! I've been anticipating this for months.

For those unfamiliar with Electronic Super Joy, it's one of the most challenging precision platformers I've played since Super Meat Boy. I wrote these impressions last August, on the PC version
When starting up Electronic Super Joy, a screen warns that the game "may cause seizures! Also, cause motion sickness!" and that's not hyperbole. Electronic Super Joy is at once a psychedelic visual experience and a tough-as-nails platformer.

The surreal landscape spawns trees and other scenery as you approach, the environment is alive with strobing lights and moving colors, all while electronic music and orgasmic moaning plays in the background. The paper thin story is as surreal as the graphics: it's quite simple, you're on a quest to rescue your butt. The game is never static, even the levels are in constant motion.

Each level automatically scrolls left to right, adding a sense of urgency not seen in other platformers. You only have seconds to evaluate what obstacles lay ahead. The controls are simple but more than capable of overcoming the myriad challenges. Lasers, portals, blade turrets, jump pads, one-use jump pads, swarms of missiles (which follow you relentlessly and can pass through the environment), spinning blades, rotating levels, bosses, and other hazards all stand between you and the exit. You will die, that's for sure, but there are checkpoints and auto restarts give the game a "one more go" appeal that only the best platformers can provide.

Electronic Super Joy is quite literally a joy to play. If you're a fan of Super Meat Boy or other challenging platformers, I think you'll definitely enjoy this game.

Well, Skulldruggery and Electronic Super Joy officially added to the wish list after the comments here.

Too many good games lately...

Decided to get Skullduggery. I'm only 4 levels in so far and the challenge is starting to pick up. You control a skull, Angry Bird style as you evade traps, collect coins, and destroy enemies. The best aspect is easily the controls. You pull back your brain and release to send the skull flying in an arc, and it is just so effortless and fluid. Holding the screen while in mid air slows time, allowing you to aim precision shots and just gives the gameplay this satisfying flow.

There are elements of physics puzzles, combat, stealth, twitch evasion, so I expect the levels to get more diverse and difficult.

From what I've played so far, I would definitely recommend Skullduggery. $4.99, no IAP

Launch trailer

Damn you might have just sold me on this game.

Too bad I can't have time for real games because there's an event going on right now in SWFC and I'm currently wasting my life away rerolling in Terra Battle.

Loving the hell out of DQ2 on my iPhone, but I wish it were mandatory to allow your own music to be played during games. I only ever get to play games on my commute, and I really just want to listen to my own music, you know? Is it so selfish to ask? When I'm at home and playing a game I will crank up the in-game music, but let me play my own shit when my headphones are plugged in, k?

For Roguelike people, what's the better game to buy at 1.99 - Sword of Fargoal or Dungeon Plunder?

Also unrelated but is Wayward Souls THAT replayable? Tempted to buy it since I enjoyed Mage Gauntlet but too $6.99 ;_;

Lots of people liked it, so take that into account.

I found it dead boring and couldn't play it long the first time... so yeah, not really replayable in my eyes.

Wayward Souls is the the best of the three IMO. It also was one that rewarded early adopters (started at $4.99 and is supposed to up $1 with each update, hence the current $6.99).

^^ Of course, not everyone feels the same, as the Toddhunter above proves :)

It's very hard but that is kind of the point of rogue likes I suppose.

Is anyone else having problems with FFVI's iCloud saving after this week's update? I can use icloud on my 5S, but I can't connect to the icloud server in game on my iPad Air.

Edit: never mind. I just realized my iPad isnt running on the current version of iOS

Oh God yes. Thanks! Corrected!

Also wanted to mention that I got Skulldruggery and it is indeed as awesome as you and Frost reported!
Not many games compel me to 100% each level, but Skullduggery is one of those games. Because the gameplay itself is fun enough that it doesn't feel like a grind to replay levels, but also because the secondary objectives require you to play the levels slightly differently. Completing a level under a certain time requires different methods than playing without getting hurt, getting X amount of headshots forces you to be cautious and time your attacks carefully, etc.

At the airport and just picked up BG:EE for a 15 hr flight.

Tempted to now grab skulldiggery to mix it up in case BG isn't my cup of tea...

Anyone getting glitches with the Tiny Tower Vegas ads? They're crashing the app whenever I try to watch them. Kind of feeling like dropping the game though, had a fun time with it but after 34 floors I'm not feeling the drive to build all of them. Wish they would update with GC achievements, it's all pointless but it's still an incentive. :p

Do it. You can never have too many games on a red eye.

I feel you, Fuu. I didn't bother to reinstall after iOS 8 made me do a factory reset of my 5S, and don't really miss it.

Okay, as one who has never really gotten Animal Crossing, I love Castaway Paradise. Part of why I haven't clicked with AC on DS is that I've always thought of it more a chore to pick up and play dedicated handhelds every day. Castaway Parasise on my phone? Perfect. I TOTALLY get why these games are addictive now. I just found the stock market... I think I'm gonna be hooked real soon. Great game, can't wait to see what's next.

Only real gripes are that I wish I had a joystick sometimes as moving up can be awkward, fishing "reel in" button needs to be moved below the meter otherwise it's hard to see the meter, and the VIP system is confusing and kind of off putting. I'd prefer a more expensive one-time purchase instead of a finite time subscription-based thing.

But rest assured, this game is going places. Great job, Bam.

ESJ is out on iOS AND it includes a Steam key?

Can...can developers do more of that? That's an awesome thing to do

I doubt it. Apple are normally pretty good at keeping porn games off the appstore, so I doubt it will last long.

You'll know when you start playing it.

Got the 6+ yesterday. Bought Banner Saga and Inferno 2 to try it out.

Still pretty early in for Banner Saga, already love it. Really great so far. The story, the storytelling, animations, gameplay. Really nice. Text is too small, only gripe so far.

Inferno 2 is a lot of fun too. Tight controls, great explosions/particles, maze-like maps to fly around in, selectable Nd upgrade able weapons and abilities. Just getting into where it seems it's gonna get a little more complicated (objectives to meet before exiting), good stuff.

Recommend both. And the 6+ is awesome, coming from a 5 which already feels waaay too small for me. =)

Anyone doing the secondary objectives in Skullduggery? Can't figure out how to get >95 seconds in 1-8. Seems near impossible, best I've gotten is 110.

Been playing on the Air I got the other day, and I'm pretty impressed. KotOR's controls really aren't bad at all; not as smooth as analog stick control but it doesn't actually get in the way, and all the menu selections are much nicer with touch controls. Funny how the UI design for a console game seems so suited for poking it with your finger.

I've been playing more Galaxy Trucker and Ace Attorney than KotOR, though. Will probably start up FTL sometime soon too, though I have a lot of work stuff to do this weekend. Ace Attorney is so damn nice on iPad. I've had a hard time putting it down, I forgot how much I enjoy these games.

Be sure to use the feedback button to vote on your most wanted features. We've had a lot of comments about the controls. It's something we will improve.

Not sure that getting a turn based game after having completed Banner Saga with all endings was the best idea....but so far Dungeon Cards didn't click.
Everything is great on paper...but...I do not know...I find it a bit boring....I just click here and there.
Does it get any better in next dungeons/levels?

Well, I haven't played Banner Saga yet but Card Dungeon is going to be a huge let down coming from an epic story driven game.

This is purely a rogue-like/card/board-game. No story. No real objectives other than trying to get as far as you can go.

That said I enjoy it for the type of game it is. I like the strategy involved in deciding whether to keep or get rid of cards and the fact that they can "break", adding to the importance of decisions.

I don't know. Guess I just feel like it's a nice change for rogue-likes. It may not be for everyone and certainly isn't going to fill in for anyone looking for a good story based RPG.

+1 for 6 Plus optimized app recommendations. Most stuff I've tried so far has looked great on the screen even upscaled, but I did play MI:SE (which hasn't even been updated for Retina) and it was a pixelated mess.

I launched my first app a day or two ago!

You may not have heard of it as it's been near impossible to get any reviews or coverage in English speaking regions, though I was interviewed for Pocket Gamer.

Picked this up, it looks great on my iPhone 6 Plus. Each time I start a new stage there's some stutter, but it goes away after a few seconds. Reminds me a lot of Jetpack Joyride in a good way, I really hope it sells well enough that you can build on it and add new features, skins, etc to the game. The next update looks great, and I'd love for unlockables so as to give something to strive for other than score. It feels like it could evolve into something really special.

I knew before hand the type of game it was....the mechanics seems brilliant but (consider I just did the first 3 dungeons)....I don't feel any strategy at all and there is basically no pacing....just randomness.
One game I open a door and I immediately find the boss to complete the dungeon, one game I click endlessly only to find neutral mobs that take age to move.
I like randomness and generic no story roguelikes, but I feel all that could have been done a lot better.
As for the cards, they are a brilliant idea but they are totally random and sometimes you find yourself without any attack.
It's a nice strategical component maybe at the end of a cool dungeon....it's silly at the end of the tutorial when a single enemy remain and you just click away in a huge (empty) dungeon (some not so random cards placement and a lot of better pacing control could have done wonders IMHO).

I'll keep playing a bit more, but so far I'm not impressed....despite the fact I want to like the game and everything on paper is great.

Card Hunter is going to be 100x better. You get a party of three, so there's plenty of tactical decisions to make, there's a "story" between missions that's quite tongue-in-check, as the DM who you play against is constantly being picked on by his "cooler" older brother, and the one running your missions is new and a bit inexperienced, with the usual stereotypes (on purpose, so they're actually amusing).

Just having a party of 3 people to move around makes the fights so much better (different classes also give unique traits, and you can mix and match how you see fit), and they're on a large, static board that you can go nuts on with all sorts of terrain penalties and spells and crazy actions. It's got some really deep strategy to it, and of course much like your W40K game, there's a TON of loot to collect and find.

What's interesting is the loot is all relatively balanced, so there's even more strategies depending on how you outfit your players. The loot is what creates their card pool, so one weapon comes with 6 cards another 6 different cards and so on. And not all the cards are good. A neat weapon might have a really, really great attack card, but also 2 fumble ones where you waste your turn. Lots of variations of that stuff.

And there's different types of damage, armor, and more and more. Really great game. Will be one to get for sure (especially since it uses a completely fair system and is free) for strategy/RPG fans of any sort.

Yeah I'm really waiting for Card Hunter...I was in the first beta even (like...one year ago?) but stopped playing waiting for the iPad version.
Can't wait for it to finally arrive on iPad...I wonder why in the world it's taking so long to be honest.

EDIT: Regarding Card Dungeon...the fact it doesn't save the state is really unnerving....and for some reason it wiped my progresses and now I'm back at dungeon 1.

Is DQ2 being two bucks more than DQ1 just a quirky square pricing thing or are there some enhancements that are taken into account?

I think it's just the age and content of the games, DQ1 is ~10 hours long, and DQ2 is ~20 hours long. Both are very basic RPGs though, it's not until the subsequent DQ games that things got a little deeper, iirc.

Not sure if I'd recommend Reckless Racing 3 as optimized, unless there's been an update I've missed that game is seriously funky on a 6+, all zoomed in.

Holy shit, stay away from WWE Supercard.

I just spent the past 48 hours pretty much either playing Supercard or thinking about my wrestlers in the King of the Ring and whether they need a boost or an energy shot.

Literally sapped my 6+'s battery twice in a day.

Final straw was that I was in the "Get Cards" screen and I was WAY to close to just dropping $25 to get some ultra rares or epics...

...for what?! FOR WHAT?!?!

Deleted that shit before my wife divorces me for forgetting to pick up my daughter from daycare or some other crazy shit.

If anyone is into mech games (I am and am always disappointed by the lack of them on iOS), it's worth checking out Walking War Robots. F2P but is pretty fun online only MP game. I've read it's best to invest earned currency in secondary robots/slots but haven't yet. Graphics are also pretty nice.

Hey awp! Hey Hoggy, and hey Bronxsta. I'm finally here!

Have you heard about that game M3CH that's coming? I think Chillingo is publishing it, and it's free to play as well. Seems pretty good though
