This is what I was talking about earlier, MS added the ability to use wallpapers to live tiles in WP8.1, and I'm using a slight 2 tone one, sorry for the poor post earlier;

Yes that's my son playing a X360 in Target many years ago :D .

Ok cool, don't have a Windows phone but the pic helps. Let me make up a sample.

That's pretty slick looking. Well done.

I think the real issue is the placement of the tiles, that makes the user think the bluray one is part of the recent history. A better divider or other placement would solve that. Actually maybe swapping the snap tile and the bluray tile would do the trick, since snap can't be confused with an app, and it makes sense to associate it with recent/active apps from history.
I never used an Xbox One, but icons are not movable like it is on Windows 8/Phone?
That is kind of lame...

I think people forget that the 360 got many feature updates in its first year. The Xbox One features will slow down as well. I await the eventual disappointment threads.

Noup the opposite... They put 2 independent OS in there so they can do exactly this, everyone mocked MS because that was so "stupid" and whatever... yeah... its not like the biggest software company in the word has some of the best engineers around.

Slightly off-topic but is anyone else's DVR clips not recording sound? Over the last couple of days every Horizon 2 clip that I've recorded has been completely silent. It was working fine last week. :/

I think this is a bug that first appeared in the August update? Maybe it's not fully fixed yet. I had it happen once when Diablo first launched but never again.

Full reset fixes it, but it sucks when it happens because you never know about it until you've got a video with no sound.

Dude, fix the 9 in your GS.
Here's an example where the effect is more visible.

You need to get your game on my friends!

I take it you mean something like this? I imagine the team went the opposite way is due to the tiles not filling up 95% of the screen like it does on the phone.

That actually looks quite nice to me. Thanks for taking the time to mock that up!

Wow this looks great, not sure if I like the pattern continuing on over tiles (might be better for actual images but for patterns it looks odd)

Someone should post tile backgrounds on the xbox feedback site

What is this shit? Are you for real? This is so bizarre it almost comes off like self-parody.

I'm fairly sure it's sarcasm, a playful swipe at Microsoft and the whole 'you need connect, xbox won't come without one' etc?

If not then my sarcasm meter must be way off tonight.

Cool, thanks.
I will move the disc drive icon somewhere else then.
I only ever touched a One in demo kiosks.

Home screen icons are not movable. The disc drive icon will always be in the same place. The most recent apps/games will list to the immediate left of the disc drive icon and those cycle.

To the left of the Home screen are your Pins, which are movable.

Thanks, I can't really take any credit, I downloaded an app called Theme+ which had a lot of different styles, I just picked the style of background and colours (and went for something very simple).

That's pretty sweet actually, I would go for colours even closer together but that's just me!

I see what you mean, a pattern works better than a picture on the XB1. On WP however it looks cool, just like...

THIS! That is really cool, I had the same idea only with Spider-Man for a while!
So what if I'm 31!?

How are you guys taking screen shots of your Home screen?

I set this up today, Super Time Force has some of the best achievement pics. I got Jef Leppard right now blasting his nips for all to see.

Man, having a background picture makes the OS so much more livelier. It's fun to just hangout on the main screen now. Loving the X1!

You can upload you're own pictures for backgrounds starting today.

The latest Media Player update allows you to create customized Xbox One backgrounds using your own pictures. Here’s how it works:

Connect a USB to console / Connect a source through DLNA
Launch Media Player (either directly or through Settings>My Xbox > My background > Custom image)
Navigate to source of your choosing (USB/DLNA)
Navigate to folder/file of your choosing
Select the jpg/png image – see it full screen.
Once you are viewing the image full screen, hit the menu button.
Select “Set as background”
You will be sent back to the full screen view of the image. Hit nexus, see the image on Home.
To help select or create an image that will work best for the background, the Xbox Design Team created handy Photoshop template so you can see what parts of your pic will be blocked by the tiles. Download it here (Adobe Photoshop required to open): http://mjr.mn/XBOBackgrounds

Glad you guys are enjoying the update and the template.

Let me know if we can do anything else..

;)

Transparency option for the tiles? Only the highlighted tile is solid and the rest you can see through to the background? Just food for thought. Also, what Flash said, tell the OS team thanks for kicking ass this year.

I can't comment on transparency - but I'll pass along the feedback.

I'll be sure to send this thread to the right folks. I know the developers that worked on the background feature are reading this right now

That team AND the rest of the OS update team are awesome. Tell them amazing job and we appreciate the hard work (and to enjoy the light month in December :p)
