Should the WiiU have at trophy/achievement system?

I know I would play it a lot more! When Rayman Legends came out I bought it on the PS4 for that reason.

They could make it coins instead of trophies.

It's too late in the console's life to integrate such a system, imagine all the games that already came out that would need to be patched for this.

In-game trophies work for me anyway. :p

no, even if I wouldn't mad if they added one, it's pointless.

Edit: I get that it incentives players to do stuff they wouldn't do otherwise, so I get the appeal, but they are pointless in the sense that you gain nothing from them. I like how some Wii U games get you stamps.

Yes. despite Nintendo's reasons I like having achievements mapping my progression through a game that I can show on my profile. I enjoy seeing other peoples trophies/achievements to see how far my friends are in games or why they gave up on Assassin's Creed 2 at memory block 4.

We've had this discussion to death.

Yes, they probably should, but it should be a more 'Nintendo' approach than some arbitrary number beside your NNID. I like the hat idea for Miis, sorta like the avatar awards with the Xbox.

Edit: Making Miiverse stamps more meaningful would be a good place to start. Let me use the stamps from every game across every community in Miiverse. That, and tying stamps to specific achievments.

I think stamps are Nintendo's achievements, and it's actually a pretty neat way of integrating them, I'd say.

The OP mentioned exactly why there should be one, which is that he chose the PS4 version of Rayman because of them. There are people that will play more Wii U games if they had trophies. Are there people that would play them less if they were there?

I would love some achievements for MK8. People hate way too much on achievements but the real thing is that they give games a lot of replay value and additional challenges.

Yes. 100% YES. It's the one thing I dislike about the 3DS and Wii U.

Just give an option to hide them for the people that are afraid of them.

I hate trophies because it ends up convincing me to waste time doing tasks I find boring.

Lack of trophies is a huge plus for me.

I wouldn't say no to it, maybe like the stamps from SM3DW? Maybe even give small rewards when you 100% a game like, I don't know, 10 cents for eShop? I'm just thinking out loud.

I think that is a very silly reason to buy on one platform or another, but more power to you.

Nintendo has put custom stamps in their games that you unlock. What I would like is the ability to use those stamps outside of their respective game's community on miiverse.

This would satisfy the itch for trophies and they would actually be something useful and fun instead of just an e-peen.

I don't care if it does or doesn't, honestly. I wouldn't hate if it added one, but it doesn't make or break anything for me either way.

I won't personally care.
But I think that the stamps are a nice way of doing that. Obviously, nobody else but Nintendo are going to use them...

As long as it's something I can turn off/very easily ignore, then sure, why not. If I got constant notifications in-game about some meaningless "achievement" with no way to turn it off, I would not be happy.

I would like them... I agree that they add challenges and let me get more out of a game. I do like the stamps, but I would like achievements.

Nope. They already know how to make you feel like you've accomplished things in the game without the console telling you that you should pat your back.

True, but they really should have provided a system wide implementation of them. I would love if you had a "Stamp Book" and could browse them based on game. You dont even need to have a number attached to them, just list the description of how you got the stamp if you cursor over it. Maybe next console :(

Sure, it's a functionnality that needs to be linked to your NNID.

It's not because Miyamoto said games should be fun to play without artificial goals, that Nintendo shouldn't give this functionnality to developers.
Plus, Miiverse and Club Nintendo allows them to have a very good achievement system.
Everything should be there, but more than often I think Nintendo's people who decides in Japan are completely unaware of ideas that comes from the West.

Edit: And luckily that's not everyone case. Sakurai's walls of challenge in Kid Icarus / Smash Bros are achievements. Tecmo Koei's Hyrule Warriors have them too with auto Miiverse posts.
This really seems to be nothing but a case of Kyoto hypocrisy, just to not do what everyone do.

Not much later than when the PS3 integrated it. Though relatively speaking the Wii U has way less life in it than the PS3 did I guess.

If they did do a system, I'd like to see some sort of interesting spin on it, though I fear it would exclusively be related to Miiverse which I'd rather forget existed. I much prefer Playstation's "level" system to the gamerscore system of Xbox one (simpler to compare vague levels of trophies) or Steam's (which is...just...basically pointless, a bare step up from Nintendo's)

Nah.

Never once cared about achievements or trophies.

It's because the fact you don't care that you should want these achievements/trophies/stamps. I can't be bother with it as well, but it might pull some people who do like it. I think it can only be good for the system.

The PS3 achieved its trophy system a looooong time after it was out. Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 didn't have trophies at launch... And MGS4 was at least a year after the PS3 came out.

It can be done!

Personally, on one hand I love collecting trophies and going that extra mile to achieve the platinum trophy (MGR, my precious) but at times it puts a lot of pressure because of the sheer amount of trophies being collectable.

The fact that the 3DS and the Wii U don't have such systems is a relief, honestly. I can play for hours on ende and don't bother with a percentage of how much I completed the game yet.

So, for personal preference, I'd say that Nintendo should still offer the non-achievement experience to balance it out, because besides Steam achievements, XBox achievements and Sony trophies, it sure is a relief.

Yep, the stamps pretty much are exactly that. All they'd need to do is adding a page to your Miiverse profile showing all the stamps you've collected.

Don't care about achievements if they are not there. I sometimes feel forced to do them on Steam just so I can say I completed a game 100%...

There isn't any point with incorporating such a feature for the system, especially at this point in the consoles lifespan. Besides, earning achievements are pretty meaningless in the long run, and they don't do much to add value to the game.

At this point it's just too late. Maybe on the next console. Unless they think they're bad for children?

Yes. Sure Nintendo can change it in some way if they want, but there is no good reason to not include something which is standard on pretty much all gaming platforms (PS, Xbox, Steam, iOS).

Yes, Im not a trophy hunter, but I find myself exploring games a lot more, then I used to.

If I feel like Im going to be rewarded either by an in-game perk, or system-level trophy, I make a little more effort in otherwise monotonous task/back tracking, or an little more effort in "trying again" to get a certain amount of "points"

I dont care about achievements

If fact i used to feel kinda stupid forcing for achievements.
The only game i got "platinum" was Just Cause 2 and as much as i LOVE that game i got nothing in my life from the hours i spend searching for the last watertowers or something

I wouldn't mind it. Its quite evident in some of Nintendo titles (Kirby Mass Attack, Streetpass Plaza, Hyrule Warriors) that they sort of want to.

The closest things they currently have are Miiverse Posts and Stamps.

as long as I can turn it off and never see a notification for them in-game I'm cool with it

I don't care about trophies in the slightest but people that do should have the option as long as it doesn't hinder my experience either
