I actually do like a lot of the characters shown, just not Elma.
I imagine their faces don't look great since the characters are really small in this game
since the world is built to scale with the mechs which are 5x bigger

At least you can make a pretty decent looking protagonist with the character creator

I am happy that they got Tanaka Kunihiko back as the character designer. But I do agree that 3D model is a bit weird...

I'm still worried about the HUD.

Well, if Xenoblade Chronicles is any indication, it'll be pretty customizable as far as which elements show up and when. Turning off the minimap, time/weather display, and objective arrow makes taking clean screenshots a lot easier, for example.

Anybody who has a wallpaper HQ version of the picture shown on the Xenoblade X website? I would love to rock those to my desktop.

My God, I am unbelievably hyped for this game. I'm more hyped for this than anything else for next year. It just looks sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo goood

My friend saw this game for the first time today, and his first question was: "Man, can I go over to those mountains?" and I replied,

"Dude, they pulled that off on the Wii. You can fucking scale those mountains in a giant robot now."

His jaw dropped. I'm gonna show him Xenoblade in Dolphin later this week. I suspect the shock that something so awesome has evaded him for so long might kill him.

Welp I'm finally playing Xenoblade. Decided to try it streaming to the Wii U GamePad because I figure the 480p game would look better on a 480p screen. Seems ok!

Might switch back to the TV later though, some menu text is kinda hard to read on the small screen.

Alright. Let me get this out.

I haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles yet, but I absolutely loved everything about this game that we have seen so far, except for the combat. But from what I heard, the combat is still decent enough and seems more in line with Xenoblade Chronicles.

The team of Xenoblade Chronicles has also proved their talent with their initial game and hence it can be certain that their upcoming game will be another quality title.

I don't like some of the setting though. Mechs are cool. Dinosaurs and the giants are all cool. But the character design are just nothing special, sadly. The graphics are pretty damn good for a Wii U open world game, but they definitely seem to lack polish at places (the ugly textured car for example).

Off-topic rant below but just need to vent something here:

I can never understand this hate contest between fans of FF XV and XCX. Be glad that we are getting two ambitious JRPGs of such scale. It is not an easy thing to do these days and I doubt we will ever get one again if these games fail. I will gladly buy a Wii U and Xenobalde X to support the game, and I already have a PS4 and waiting for FF XV. I am also getting Type-0 day 1 because I need my JRPGs and I need them to be a success.

XCX looks pretty far along, did I read correctly that it's Q2 in Japan?

I wonder what that could mean for NA or EU. If we base it on the first Xenoblade's localization timing, that mean's we will get in 2017, and XCX is said to be far bigger than Xenoblade so....

This. The rest of the characters shown others than enma (and that black haired loli gurl) looks really good. The only problem I'm having with the characters are the emotion-less faces, the lack of lip-sync and that IDLE poses the main character have but in general it looks from decent to good.

Anyway, I haven't played the first Xenoblade and I don't know if I'm gonna have the time for a game so long like this one but I'm gonna try to since this game has me really hyped since the first trailer. I just don't know how can they do so much with the console!

I hope there's a quest to rebuild a colony like in the first game.
You travel to the other end of the continent and find Nueva York has had it shit wrecked. You then watch it slowly, but surely return it to it's former glory over the course of the game.

Yeah, it's confirmed for a Q2 2015 release in Japan, so sometime around Spring over there.

It was reconfirmed for a 2015 release internationally but the game is still in development for a bit longer and it doesn't sound like much localization work has been done, so I'm guessing it'll be a Fall 2015 release in North America and Europe.

Why? Just because it's big and you're small?

Fighting huge enemies doesn't really work in non-action battle systems. They're the same as regular enemies.

It works because you have full control over your movement, and you need to dodge. Then there's mech movement, which we know has some form of flight.

Even then I think he was talking about the visual impact of seeing massive monsters lumber towards you.

You got to give the combat a try (or try Xenoblade Chronicles as a whole :p). Basically the combat is not "viewer-friendly", it's hard to understand and appreciate it by just watching it. You got to experience and learn the whole thing for it to click. It's a really good combination of many elements that make the combat unique and really deep. Maybe the best description of it is FFXII free-roaming battle mixed with MMORPG attacking and specials mixed with positioning elements of SRPG combat. And with the info we got from the past, Xenoblade X adds complexity to the combat system by putting in some elements not found in the first game.

It could work with your Doll, but even then it's underwhelming.

Action games are the ones that deliver with huge enemies. In non-action gameplay, it just fills up the entire screen and doesn't offer much else.

As someone who doesn't play a lot of these kinds of games, this gave me strong Phantasy Star Online vibes and I loved that game. So consider me a new member of the hype train.

I don't think this is really true at all. It just wouldn't work the same way as fighting a huge enemy in action games, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. In RPGs especially there are various mechanics which can make use of scale to create more interesting battles. While regular enemies are a single target, larger enemies can sometimes be designed with multiple components. Having each body part be a different potential target, and also have their own turn-cycles and attacks (which can be disabled by defeating the individual parts) makes for a battle which is very different from a regular enemy.

This game is looking surprisingly good.

Hopefully this game will be good and not a piece of garbage like the wii XB.

If you didn't like Xenoblade what looks good to you about this? I haven't seen the new footage yet, but everything else I have seen from the game seema to be just like Xenoblade except a lot bigger in scope.

I'm impressed with the scale of what technically they're achieving on an old console like Wii U. At the same time though I really dislike the art direction in general and character design. I'll keep an eye on it out of curiosity but considering this will be out together with FFXV at best, I know which one of the two I'll buy already. Still, more jRPGs aim high the better for its fans.

Yeah, you're right about that. I guess I just wanted to get the point across to people who repeatedly compare a giant enemy in JRPGs to colossi in Shadow of the Colossus.

They are fundamentally different. Especially in non-action battle systems.

Here's the new X logo for y'all avatar

Nice. Thanks. I was trying to do my own earlier but got lazy and just wanted to see if they were going to release a clean version themselves and then you came along! I went ahead and cleaned it up a little further, since you left in a few white marks. All credits go to you though. Job well done.

Now I can go mark my bingo board like I wanted to do earlier.

And I'm a bit late but it's amazing to hear the full version of this piece from that very first trailer. I hope they keep adding more music to that site. Also for those that want to download it, they renamed the file so it has a new link now http://xenobladex.jp/media/xeno_sound.mp3

game looks really good, could be the reason for me to get a WiiU. I am not sold on the battlesystem though, I hope they go into detail about it later on.

Xenoblade grew into one of my favorite games of all time, so I'm insanely excited for this.

Spring 2015 can't come soon enough.

Yes I don't think it makes any sense to compare a RPG with a MMO-style combat system with SotC. The level of active engagement in the interactivity is completely different. Just wanted to point out that it's not fair to say that scale has no purpose in non-action games. Ultimately it all depends on the game design.

Bigger than Xenoblade Chronicles?

Life is over when you buy this game. I will be finished with it in 2018 the way I play games.
