Halo 2 Anniversary: the Digital Foundry verdict

As the crown jewel in The Master Chief Collection, Halo 2 Anniversary delivers an expertly remastered experience for the new generation. The updated campaign is beautifully realised and feels closer to the source material than Saber's original attempt at remastering Halo: Combat Evolved back in 2011. The inclusion of the original classic mode remains an interesting treat for those interested in seeing the original visuals again, but we can't help but wonder if the image quality for the remastered campaign hasn't suffered a bit as a result of its inclusion. The new CG sequences are also a treat for fans of the game and demonstrate just how much further the Halo aesthetic could be pushed in the future.

The updated multiplayer maps are also exciting and rekindled a lot of nostalgia while playing through them. The visual overhaul is impressive and interesting though it does make it difficult to return to some of the classic Halo 2 maps after experiencing the new visuals. Despite the variation in assets between the campaign and multiplayer, the game still feels very much like Halo 2, which is ultimately what's most important here: this is the Bungie classic updated for a new generation - and it works brilliantly.

Yep. I think it looks worlds better than the ugly original Anniversary. They did a much better job this time on all fronts.

Having seen most of the Campaign; Halo 2 is vastly more faithful. This is partially because Halo 2 geometry was generally more detailed than Halo CE geometry; so there was less room for experimentation. A couple of the large and dark vistas are unusually bright, but otherwise the game looks absolutely amazing from my perspective. (I'm a diehard Halo 2 Campaign fan)

Even looking at the Halo ring in H2A vs Halo CEA is a good example of the quality of the new remaster.

I won't get banned, I promise. I have gotten 10-15 games early (including halo 2, 3, reach, and halo4) and I have never had an issue.

This is what I don't understand. I have a local store that has been breaking street since at least 2000. I've gotten a lot of games on Xbox/360 PS2/3/4 and gone online with all of them with no repercussions because they were legit games, but there is always that one person in a thread who had a cousin who knew somebody that got banned.

That being said, if I didn't have the game digitally pre-ordered I'd go down to the store and pick it up. Enjoy the game!

Not sure if anyone is able to answer this yet, but is this going to have multiple languages on the disc like most Xbox one games do? For example, would the Japanese version also include the original English version? Most games do this but I know disc space is supposedly an issue, so maybe not?

It seems really odd that Halo 4 would be the first campaign that unlocks during install. Do they not want us to play the campaigns in order?
