With all that corporate backing I hope this can become another venue for major announcements like E3, Gamescom and TGS.

On December 5, videogame creators, press, and fans around the world will come together to celebrate all things videogames with The Game Awards 2014. Built to honor every aspect of the world’s most dynamic form of entertainment, The Game Awards 2014 will highlight the cultural significance of the $100B a year gaming industry with awards, world premieres, musical performances, and appearances by game developers, eSports players and online content creators. The Game Awards 2014 is a new show created specifically to acknowledge the place of videogames at the center of modern entertainment and culture.

“The Game Awards 2014 will celebrate our collective love of games and the passion we all hold in our hearts for this incredible entertainment medium,” said Geoff Keighley, Producer, The Game Awards 2014. “Gaming has never been stronger, and this year we will recognize the fastest-selling launch year in history for new game consoles, the rise of eSports and mobile gaming around the globe, and preview the games that will make 2015 the biggest year yet.”

Airing live from the state-of-the-art AXIS Theater in front the industry and the public, The Game Awards 2014 will be viewable around the world across a record number of gaming devices, platforms, media partners and services. More details on ways to watch the show will be released in the coming weeks at www.thegameawards.com Public tickets for the awards will be available for sale via TicketMaster on Tuesday, November 11.

The Game Awards 2014 is produced by Geoff Keighley, with the guidance of an advisory board that includes Reggie Fils-Aime (President and COO, Nintendo of America), Yves Guillemot (Co-Founder and CEO, Ubisoft), Hideo Kojima (Executive Contents Director, Kojima Productions), Shawn Layden (CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America), Peter Moore (COO, Electronic Arts), Rockstar Games, Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox, Microsoft), Martin Tremblay (President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) and Valve.

“The Game Awards is a special event to honor the achievements in gaming, our talented developers and devoted fans. We look forward to celebrating the power of games this December,” said Yves Guillemot, Co-founder and CEO, Ubisoft.

“PlayStation looks forward to seeing our fans and celebrating with them both at The Game Awards and The PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas this December,” said Shawn Layden, CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “For those who can’t join us in person, we will be livestreaming the weekend on PlayStation Network.”

“Electronic Arts has long championed the way gaming brings together players with the talented teams behind the world’s greatest video games, and this event will be an exciting new opportunity to do just that,” said Peter Moore, COO, Electronic Arts. “We look forward to supporting The Game Awards alongside our friends in the industry.”

“We have long been believers in the potential for videogames to inspire, challenge and entertain, and we look forward to standing with the industry to celebrate the medium at The Game Awards this year," said Jennifer Kolbe, VP of Publishing, Rockstar Games.

“Xbox is proud to be a part of The Game Awards and to celebrate the creative and innovative work that happens across the gaming industry all year long,” said Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, Microsoft. “I am pleased Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners around the world will be able to watch the entire program through Xbox Live.”

“It’s been an amazing year in games and we’re excited to celebrate the industry’s achievements at The Game Awards alongside friends, colleagues and fans around the world,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

“Valve is excited to share The Game Awards with over 100 million users on Steam around the world,” said Gabe Newell, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Valve. Alongside the free livestream, Steam will offer a special limited time Steam Sale as part of The Game Awards 2014 broadcast. More details will be announced closer to the event.

I love this quote for some reason

Everyone else is talking about this and that, Valve is like sure you can watch it.

At least it's original.

'Hey, we won a VGX award for The Last of Us'
'Oh, cool'.

'Hey, we won a Game Award for Uncharted 4'
'What award?'
'You know, The Game Award for Game Of The Year?'
'What GOTY Award?'
'From The Game Awards!'
'Which?'
'Sigh'

Haha, I see your point.

Edit: Maybe they could just say, "Hey, we won the GA for Uncharted 4."

That's all I got, really. I do still like the name a lot more than the VGX awards, because at least it actually means something.

Hmmm... sounds interesting. Might be worth watching if we can get confirmation Keighley and any of the actors/writers involved with the VGX/A won't be in there.

I dont mind Keighley, just dont want to hear all the lame ass attempts at being funny like last year. I just want people that love video games to talk about video games... is that so hard? ):

One day before PlayStation Experience, I wonder if the choice of date is related.

I don't know what to think about this, Valve and R* involvement is particularly surprising.

Think what you will about Geoff, but he sure doesn't give up easily.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Anything less embarrassing than the ridiculous VGX shows would be an upgrade.

Aisha Tyler should host!

I said LESS embarrassing.

Probably going to be a couple of announcements at the GameAwards, with an added "And guess what? We'll have these things playable at Playstation Experience!"

It's a nice 1-2 punch and it's all in Vegas right? With all the devs and pubs in house for both these events. Definitely seems like all was planned accordingly.

The Game Awards is not affiliated with or produced by Viacom Media Networks or Spike TV.

This is extremely good news. Keighley may be a shill but the debacle that was VGX was hardly his doing, plus official backing by console pubs means we may very well have a decent half year E3 supplement.

EDIT: Just saw that Valve is also on the advisory board. It may not be saying much, but this should almost definitely be leaps and bounds better than the VGX travesty.

An awards show backed by the companies which make the games? Yep sure sounds like a fair set up to me
Not just that, the heads of each big publisher are part of the "advisory board". I bet they're voting as well.
This is dorito pope turned up to 11.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Haha, yes! This is my dream scenario I've always wanted for an awards show. An event backed by all the major players for equal representation and a mutual lust for respect. Look, I doubt they'll weight their own games and give themselves game of the year awards, it'd be such a colossal waste of money. We need a defacto event that showcases the best of the industry and of course, isn't a complete embarrassment to watch or be caught watching.

Don't worry guys, I'm sure that the awards will go to deserving games like shovel knight, tropical freeze, and bayo 2 instead of AAA hype machine games

Hi guys - Thanks for the interest. Happy to answer questions about the show here on GAF.
Alrighty then.

Is this a black-tie event with suits and the whole shebang?
Who is picking the recipients of the awards?
How long has then been in the making?
This sounds like what you've always wanted.

Anything is better than the VGX. If Joel McHale hosts again, hopefully he has better writers and not just ones who have seen The Soup a couple of times.

Looks like the industry coming together to attempt a proper show. I'll be tuned in and hope it works out. Anything has to be better than last year, lol.
