The actual awards part is going to be tricky, since I don't care about game developers (that I don't know) giving speeches. I'd almost rather have them just go up and grab the award and wave and then move on to the next thing, outside of Game of the Year.

It'd be pretty cool if you had an "orchestra" of musicians doing chiptune/rock versions of the games' themes live as walkup music.

I think it will be the trailer Sutherland was talking about.
what, at the pre-recorded tgs video? or did he say something else recently?

pretty sure no proper trailer appearing at tgs despite the video was just a goof because of plans changing or whatever.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

Yep. There is no way he was talking about the DD and Quiet cutscene. A story trailer was originally planned for TGS but they changed plans and we see it now at this show... ?

I really think people just want to be edgy when they say they want Joel back.

He might be a good guy, but he was objectively just awful last year.

I dont think people thought he was good, they just enjoyed watching him fuck with Keighley. I know I did.

Hey, it seems like Geoff really is trying to make things better this year, I am hopeful. I would love Bosman on a segment or something, but if not, it's cool.

Glad they're doing this and I hope it works out well.

Since they're having musical performances, it would be nice if they had an orchestra to play some of the years best music, even vocal performances from songs that are actually in games such as this from Transistor. instead of random musicians.

I agree. That one year they did a live performance with music from Walking Dead, Dishonored, Journey, and Assassin's Creed was awesome.

Why do publishers put so much stock in Keighley? The VGAs were pretty weak even before last year, he doesn't write for any publications any more and I don't see why he seems to have quite a lot of influence.

Is Mchale going to be there?

That makes him an asshole not "fun to watch".

He was the viewers voice in the show and I celebrate him for it. That show deserved to be shit on, worse than konami's infamous e3 conference which at least was funny. He was an asshole, but I quite enjoyed it.

Dude, seriously, he was payed for the gig.

He was just completely unprofessional.

Maybe next time they should meet up and rehearse a bit before then. It was fun with him not knowing anything or caring much, without him it would just have been 2 hours of advertisements, trailers and the most inoffensive questions that might as well just be developers reading up from press releases.

I don't get some of the comments about the ethics of this thing. It's an award show sponsored by the major publishers, that's undisclosed information. The point is to have some transparency and disclosure.
it's basically advertisement. It will be reveal galore and no one will care about the "winners"

Pretty much. I think it's cool that all the companies come together to back a new event outside of the usual E3 and Gamescom.

What part of the show was fucking professional?

-The fact it was filmed in someones basement?
-The caterer and one cameraman clapped after an announcement?
-Tray and Matt looking confessed and embarrassed to be there?
-Joel having to read tela-promoter jokes about stained Doritos fingers?
-The very stoned/drunk musical guests?

Please tell me which part of that train wreck was the professional part I must have looked away for a second.

Brilliant news.

Geoff, good work and thanks for getting rid of that awful VGX title and general format.

I'm very optimistic about this.

Hoping for the best.

So, Keighly, why are the major console producers and game producers on the "advisory" council for this? It sounds almost more like a marketing event than the Spike awards show ever was (and it was hella advertising).

  • What is the purpose of the advisory council?
  • What oversight does the advisory council have, if applicable?
  • How will the advisory council be maintained? Will members ever change? Is there disciplinary action (IE: Removal from council) if impropriety is found?

I have other questions too:

  • What is the structure of the administration behind the show?
  • What is the overall structure of the awards show?
  • If this is going to be the video gaming oscars, how are you going to avoid the problems that exist with the oscars (IE genre favoritism, topical weighting, etc).
  • What topics will awards be presented for? How will you decide these categories?
  • How will entries/nominations/winners for the awards be chosen?

Fallout 4 reveal.

Come on, it's time. Please Beth. Fallout 4 for November 2015, and then Elder Scrolls VI: Black Marsh for 2018. 19 if you really need the time.

Can't wait to see this year's nominees for "Best Extreme Moment Fueled By Dew!"

We need a Doritos category too. Might I suggest something like "Best Explosion like the flavor explosion in every bag of Doritos!"

Well that's no excuse though. The rest of the show was shit so Mchale had to be shit too? What? I thought every single part of that show was a trainwreck and Mchale being bored, annoyed and not having any idea what he was talking about didn't do anything to improve that show. They should try to actually put on a decent show and Mchale will not help with that.

I thought there would be a shakeup this year. They've always had the MTV safety net in the past, but with MTV dumping gametrailers.com I really didn't seem them baking rolling a gaming awards show.

He might be a good guy, but he was objectively just awful last year.

If anything, the SHOW was awful and he saved it by calling it out for being a giant circle jerk of a promotional tool for a bunch of small uninteresting announcements for things nobody really cared about - like the announcement of Cranky Kong and a new Titan in Titanfall - BIG DEAL.
