Itll probably be some half baked XBL game in the same vein as Double Dragon Neon and that bastardized Turtles in Time.

Sales wise. Platinum games have normally sold like shit, Phantom Dust was a bomb on release, IIRC. Good will toward gamers is great, but it seems like they're tossing money into a pit. Yes, they have Halo 5 and other titles that make big bank, but money is money. I would assume they'd want to make as much money as they possibly could with the projects they greenlight.

So basically its not based on anything.

We know very little about Scalebound, much less how it will sell. MS went to town with marketing SO I suspect they'll do the same with SB and perhaps they will find success.

We also know very little about plans for PD, business model, what it looks like

Ridiculously premature.

I hope they don't make Rare do anything with this. Everyone from the old days is long gone. If they plan on doing anything with this its gonna have to be like Killer Instinct and made by a separate developer. Either way its good news.

I still don't know why a lot of you are seeing this as a game announcement. Didn't they do the same with Conker only to announce a skin for Spark?

Not as far as I know. Do you have a link for this? I think they still have the old trademark listing from when they made the xbox remake.

MS did it for Killer Instinct though. They applied for a new KI trademark in 2012.

They also publicly fought (and settled with) FOX for the Killer Instinct trademark so that was obviously coming

With Battletoads though, they are already selling Battletoads DLC today so even if they weren't making a new game (which they probably are) it makes sense for them

The original is actually a bad game... It's broke as fuck.

This is incorrect. Battletoads is amazing, and is worth a "playthrough" for the OST alone.

See, the quotes around playthrough is because most people would give up at level three. :3

In any case, I'll be paying attention to this. If it's done right, I might actually consider picking up a Bone.

I've been meaning to fire up the original, but not until I can get it on cart and play on an old school TV. Gotta be authentic.

Something I've always admired about Sony is there willingness to green light games that are probably incredibly risky financially. microsoft has generally rolled with the big names and has generally been risk adverse when it comes to green lighting games.

I think its important to develop that back catalogue though as even if a game might not make back its development as long as it's interesting enough to bring a few new users into the ecosystem then it's okay. A game like D4 I'd a prime example... It's looking like it might have floppes for MS but it also forced several deadly premonition/swerwy fans to purchase an XB1 and adds an Interesting unique title to XB1s back catalogue.

Then getting Rare to do it would just be like getting a separate developer.

I love how everyone picks a different Battletoads game as "the bad one".
It has amazing critical acclaim for a short-lived previously abandoned IP. Even the gameboy one was great.

I want Iron Galaxy to make it and Dave Lang's face be a boss battle that shoots expletives at you.

Let's be honest, you were looking for a reason to post this right?

random gif? or im missing the reference to battletoads.

You guys aren't watching this deeply enough.

Spencer is the guy.

Consider each butt cheeks as a unused Rare IP.

Struck by a thunder of genius, Spencer goes ''THIS ONE!'' *SLAP!*. Battletoads gives him a glance, smiling.

And this is how a trademark gets registered.

Battletoads was still awesome even if you couldn't get farther than the speeder bikes.

The powered up punches, kicks, and headbutts were hilarious as a kid, and the first boss was great! Are there any other bosses in the NES era that you fight through the eyes of the boss? Plus, you can ride a dragon in the level!

But they already had Conker though.

I don't remember in detail the Conker trademark thing they did a while ago, was that different than this? I don't quite understand how these things work, don't they "have" every Rare IP legally wrapped in some form?

Insomniac are working on it imo. I think it's going to be a small downloadlble game as well.

Insomniac are making SO DLC, R&C Redux and presumably starting work on SO2, they've also said they want to work on their own IP and aren't interested in working on others, I very much doubt outside of R&C they will do any IP work that isn't for stuff they own

I hope it's still an action-BEU and not some reboot that decides to make a dumb change of genre. I expect CG-like cartoon quality given how they've treated Viva Pinata, Nuts and Bolts, and even Kinect Sports Rivals, so I hope they go with the crazy-stretchy-dynamic exaggerations of proportions.
