Qatar: If you're gay, you should avoid the 2022 World Cup

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
It's their culture if u don't like it don't go, as simple as that. Nobody tells u what to do in your house.

Bullshit, it's a world event with a great deal of fans from the West. Everyone saw Brazil and the crowd it brought. It's like inviting a vegan friend to dinner and trying to shovel steak down their throat while saying, "Please respect my ways bruh"

Arab women who have this view are just as shitty, my mother is one of them. But you can't argue that it isn't the result of the culture that Arab men have imposed on them.

Just so that I don't misunderstand you. Are you arguing that the women who participated in those polls don't actually believe that being gay is taboo and that they're only echoing these sentiments because, specifically, Arab men forced them to?

Correct me if I missed something.

I didn't say forced. But yes, it was something that they were taught based on a culture derived from Arab men. Just like how women are whores if they engage in pre-martial sex and it's completely acceptable to disown/honor kill them. Are you going to argue that Arab women came up with that mentality as well?

Yes. That is exactly what she is saying.

this sounds pretty spot on, tbh

Too much money involved to do something about this, they will let it slide.

And everyone saying "it's their culture, deal with it lol" - We had some things in our culture lol that we've now changed because they were fucked up and dispicable, unless you think those things shouldn't have been changed either - would you like to go back to the Victorian times?

Man, and I was excited for the World Cup being in the Middle East. Arabs are so fucking awful and have to ruin everything. I guess I was naive not to expect this :/
You have got to be joking me? He world cup in Qatar is a joke and everyone knows it...but "Arabs are so fucking awful". Get a life. You have no idea what you are talking about.

It can be argued that they did. You're trying to blame all the ills upon men here. Yes, men are responsible for a lot of evils against women but you're making it sound like women, particularly Arab women, are so naive and gullible.

Why do you think a lot of women even in the West participate in putting down other women? Because men told them to? Also, a lot of women in the West are against homosexuality. Were they also forced by men to hold this belief?

(And yes, you did say "imposed" which means forced).

I know a lot about what I'm talking about, and I already owned up to poorly saying what I meant if you bothered to read through the rest of the thread. Anything else you want to comment though?

Absolute disgrace. Never should have been awarded the games.

Shame on FIFA. They picked literally the least viable option for 2022 that has zero redeeming qualities as a host that make it stand out from the other contenders, and several significant drawbacks.

Well then go back and edit your original post. I guarantee if you said the same thing about African Americans you would have been banned instantly..but people tend to get a free pass in grouping "arabs" together and saying they are all the same.

Of course those women "really" think being gay is a sin. And it's not because of Arab men.

I won't bother discussing your straw man.

No, it doesn't. She's excusing her attitude against Arabs because she happens to be one - which is NOT an excuse at all.

I think anyone who has to have gone through being raised in an ignorant culture that oppressed them has a right to have a certain attitude about it.

While I do not agree with their ways, it is what it is and so when in Rome....

I feel the same, if visitors visit the UK or the US they are expected to abide by the rules, no matter if you agree with them or not.

I do not agree with Qatar and their views on homosexuality, but it's their country, they are entitled to their own rules unfortunately.

This event will not be boycotted, most football fans will not care ..... Sports and politics don't mix.

So, an African American who hates his culture has the right to be racist against African Americans? Or a Hispanic American? Or a ___-American?

African American culture is pretty shitty towards homosexuality, that's not speaking to individuals(there have been some improvements the past decade or so)

Arab culture is pretty shitty towards homosexuality, of course there are exceptions but the culture "trend" is pretty anti-gay.

Even if that's what you believe, a separate point here is that it's just even more evidence that FIFA is corrupt and its pledge for inclusivity and unity is just a complete joke.

They seem to be reflections of a strong majority position and governments will always play to that.

Also Islam is a corner stone of these nations and I am not sure many Imams are interested or being pushed to support homosexuality.

Cultural identity and religion are more or less one and the same in these nations and most are founded along those principles and are very conservitive, it is of no surprise Qatar has this opinion on homosexuality unfortunately.

FIFA are happy and so are Qatar and no countries are going to boycott the games, if people dying can't stop this neither will this.

Certainly, they are even corrupt when dealing with issues to do with the sport itself.

Football fans have been long aware of FIFA and its issues long before the current awareness generated by these upcoming events.

I'm an Arab-American that thinks Arabs who follow a deeply rooted, ignorant, widely accepted and practiced culture are fucking awful. I'm sorry if I sounded racist or self hating. I can't deny my heritage nor would I ever want change it, but I'm certainly not going to defend it either.

Didn't FIFA force a law change in Brazil to make them accept alcohol in stadiums (it was forbidden because of death and fight problems)? Where is the Budweiser lobby for Qatar?

I always wonder if the Iranian Muslim guys I work with freak out when I wear short sleeves, like I'm walking around with my dick out

elbows and knees are like erotic zones and must never be exposed to anyone but your spouse

This isn't entirely true but I have enough understanding of my own culture to see where you're coming from. Other should do the same. Its stupidly obvious that the majority of Arabs are intolerant of gay people. This pathological search for offense on behalf of others by progressives is tiring and only serves to hinder meaningful debate. And I say that as a progressive. Yes, somewhere somebody may be offended by the generalization. That doesn't make the generalization wrong.

FIFA enforces alot of things, basically they got a list of things that have to change or that have to be given.
For example, FIFA is excluded from any form of taxes...

Well they already do sell alcohol in some hotels there and such, with fifa being sponsored by budweiser and all, I'm sure they will be able to work around that issue. Gays being allowed to hold hand in public however doesn't make them much money.

Arab countries are horrible. I want the renewable revolution to happen just so it crashes their economy and they actually have to deal with the rest of the world.

? Your analogy isn't going to stand if you are in qatar drinking on the street or getting intimate in public. Fine I accept we can whine about it here, but don't expect them to change the law.

And just recently, in Malaysia some guy said the prayer call was way too fucking loud on his Facebook and he got a year in jail. So I mean this is just the way it is.

You aren't going to change the country's values with football, value the possible openness and discussion this opportunity might bring.

I think it's disappointing that your attitude is to leave it be, especially seeing how you had no qualms against the example you used. If we're going to let countries commit human rights violations, then they have no right to participate in world events, let alone host one.
