US/CAN Club Nintendo Thread: New and improved. Read the OP.

When I sign in the games all switch back to last month's offerings. Even if I click on Pilotwings while signed out, then sign in when prompted to, it boots me back to the rewards page with wrecking crew et al.

Anyone else have this issue? I'm using Chrome.

Edit: Nevermind, it just had to refresh again after signing in.

I'm still waiting for the last physical goods to deplete so that the site as a whole can get replenished... At least, I'm being hopeful.

Vegas Stakes is the HAL-developed Casino RPG, right? I'm debating getting that, Kirby Pinball, or Pilotwings. Any suggestions, folks?

Gave in and and exchanged some coins for Kirby's Pinball Land since it's been a reward so often and I'm in a Kirby mood. Not impressed so far, honestly.

I feel like getting Vegas Stakes just cause DDP

Should i? I mean i see this vegas stakes rolling up and down everytime, what is this game?

Here you are, complaining away while I wish I had more coins to spend ;_; Super Metroid is right there in the eShop. If that's the only thing you people want, it's no wonder they don't offer it for free.

What a load of dogshit games. Get it together Nintendo.

Nah, man, come on. Take a step back and think about it for a bit. You just called Pilotwings and Metroid 2 dogshit games. The first is in a lot of people's greatest of all time lists and Metroid 2 definitely is in mine, while some of the others are at least interesting. Maybe not for you for whatever reason, but definitely for other people. Maximum Hyperbolia is a contagious disease that doesn't do anyone any good and I don't wish it on anyone.

KYB, you should post your treatise on Metroid 2, perhaps that'll convince some peeps to pick it up!

I'd be tempted to get Vegas Stakes but I hold out hope for more 3DS card cases being put up in the next year or two. I'd rather just pay the $9 or whatever it is for the ROM than waste 200 coins =/

Vegas Stakes was made by HAL? Is there like a campaign of any sorts, or do I just play slots until I hit it big?

you gamble until you win over 10 million

there are 5 or 6 different casinos with different backgrounds and music and betting limits and every once in a while someone will come up to you and present you with a choice about something. either they want to drill for oil and need your money or they are hurt or have a sick kid. They could be truthful or they could be scamming you. As a kid who was fond of playing cards I got addicted to just playing the game just to see what kind of stuff people would say when they came up to me.

Played a bit of Pilotwings. Not a bad game, though it's hard to get a hang of paragliding and trying to control the skydiver while he's falling. Otherwise, for a freebie, it's a neat look at what was basically a demonstration of what the SNES could do with Mode 7 near the system's launch.

Yes, Tokyo Crash Mobs.

A crazy Japanese game that doesn't exist in any other device and I wouldn't ever buy it for 7.49.

That's what I wanted Club Nintendo to be. Not VC Games every month.

But it's so embarrassingly poorly written... OK!

In case anyone's on the fence about Metroid 2, here's a write-up i did about it a couple of months ago in one of maxcriden's threads:

Metroid 2 plays somewhat differently from the rest of the series. Instead of exploring a huge map, retreading your way after getting new items and power-ups to find previously unavailable passages, this game has a relatively more straight-forward map, which doesn't mean at all that there's no exploration. In order to advance, you must hunt down and kill the different kinds of Metroid in each area before before moving on to the next. A counter at the bottom of the screen lets you know how many Metroid you have left and seeing it slowly go down throughout the game until only 1 remains is very satisfactory. There are more Metroid types than in the other games, from the classic round thing to some really freaky and scary looking creatures. As expected, the atmosphere is superb and the extermination twist on the Metroid formula does wonders for the usual horror theme the series has going on. Things can get quite scary and tense, maybe more so than in the rest of the series. Sometimes just finding the discarded husk of a Metroid cadaver is enough to raise the tension in preparation for the incoming boss fight.

Most of the usual power-ups from the Metroid series can be found here, some of them for the first time: high jump, different suits, space jump, screw attack, missile expansions, bombs, jump ball, and so on, with the addition of the awesome sticky ball or whatever it is actually called (me and my friends called it the fried egg when we were kids). This one lets you stick to the walls and even the ceiling when in ball form, leading to some "interesting" exploration sessions.

To top things off, the graphics are great, particularly the Samus and different Metroid sprites. The music, by Ryoji Yoshitomi, who later worked on the Wario series, is just plain awesome if a bit scarce. If the song from the beginning doesn't get you itching to kick some Metroid ass, I'd check for a pulse, and the title screen music is downright beautiful. The whole final part of the game is particularly well done, with a great final boss and a nice ending sequence that leads directly to the Super Metroid intro.

If you like Metroid and haven't checked this game out, you owe it to yourself. All in all, it feels like a much modern game than Metroid that advanced the series towards the fan favorite, wonderful Super Metroid. Metroid 2 Return of Samus is also available on Virtual Console.

GAF, how's Metroid II?
Whoa, crazy timing!

Decided to get Metroid II since I really really want to spend my coins. Smash Wii U, Pokemon, Persona Q and Captain Toad are coming soon so they're going to increase my useless pile of coins again. I kinda wish I got myself Super Mario World and Super Metroid when they were up before. That was when we don't have the unified NNID update yet and I held back because I own them on the Wii VC already. Dammit Nintendo, why is it always like this on Club Nintendo every month?!

Grabbed Vega Stakes so I can get 5$ from the DDP to buy something worthwhile tomorrow. Hopefully I can still grab the Smash poster when I finally get up to 700 coins again.

A shame they don't ship them out once you register both. It's gonna be a pain to wait 4 months for them to be sent out.

Is Pilotwings any good? I never liked simulator games on Snes because the weird pseudo 3D, but im willing to try it out.

Edit: Thanks Grumpy, I just saw the trailer and the music made me an instant fan.

Here's a couple of comments I made on the last page about it. I'd say go for it if you haven't tried it before. It's definitely the best of the bunch imo.

It's a really relaxing game. Lovely music to fly around to. There are a variety of challenges you take such as jetpacks, hangliders, planes, skydiving, including an epic final mission which is very different than the rest. I think fondly of this game as I do of F-Zero or SMW. Maybe it's just SNES launch nostalgia but I think Pilotwings is still fun today. Worth getting if you haven't tried before.

It can get pretty challenging since you have to reach a certain rank to be able to pass each test. You can't just flub your way through each challenge. I prefer this one to the 3DS game actually, but it's not as good as the N64 one. There are 8 levels each containing several challenges (ie: 1 jetpack + 1 skydiving + 1 hanglider = 1 level). There are also 2 "special" challenges that have you
flying a helicopter doing bombing missions

I think they want to get as many registrations in as possible before they start the print run. Makes sense I guess. These are looking to be a limited print run. No one should be denied a copy, after registering within the time frame, because Nintendo didn't have enough.

Yeah, I figure they would rather know in advance how many CDs they need to print & send out by getting everyone's registrations in instead of constantly having to make some, send them, then make more. They basically learned their lesson from the OoT 3D OST fiasco.

I just hate having to wait so long to hear some of those wonderful songs in my car....
