Dragon Age: Inquisition PC performance thread

I was figuring mantle was an option...by dragon age is telling me only Direct 3d11 is available on my configuration...which is crossfire 290s, so thats dumb

mantle makes my game stutter like crazy during loading and when turning really fast.

thought my computer was going to explode

Amd 6300/7950/8 gigs
Started right off using mantle and the high settings, ran nice but with of dips when I was just running, the cut scene stutters were there also. Tried ultra and it just chugged

Switched to direct x and went to ultra, tuned off msaa and switched post process aliasing to medium...it's smooth as can be, no more cut scene stutters...I'll check the fps later

I'm thinking about picking up another 970 for this game now. Want to run it completely maxed out with maybe some antialiasing and keep it at 60+ fps. That and I'm worried about The Witcher 3 now.

uggh...I cant figure this game out at all. performance is all over the place, already turned textures down, tesselation down, MSAA off, and AO down, yet im still jumping between 20 and 60

Hmm. Downloaded the new nvidia drivers but I'm getting the message "this game cannot be optimized."

Unrelated: What are the right settings to tweak to get rid of shiny hair? A search suggested putting mesh to ultra, but if my toon is standing near a light source (like the fire in your room), his hair is still shiny/waxy.

Have you tried fullscreen with mantle? When I tried mantle out, it stuttered using windowed fullscreen, but ran smooth in fullscreen.

What's your CPU? I have a 970 (the asus one) too and it runs great now.

What do you have under the hood? I can't get a locked 60 in the hinterlands with two 970s on mostly high with some ultra and no msaa. =/

I get exactly locked 60 with 2 970s with everything on ultra EXCEPT MSAA x2 instead of x4

what CPU do you have?

edit: make sure to run fullscreen, SLI seems borked on windowed borderless (at least for me, drops to 40s)

Okay guys, I'm kind of skeptical about being able to run this on PC. Any advice?

Anyone have any luck getting MFAA to work? I have it enabled in Nvidia Control Panel but the screen looks like no AA whatsoever was applied.

Well I was rock solid 60fps for the whole prologue. Now that I'm in haven, I'm bouncing around 45-55. I think I'll disable MSAA and see how it looks.

I've been alternating mouse + keyboard with controller and while the controller is better, I kind of like the mouse+kbd. I just wish I could change the default behavior of the mouse to be always mouselook and hold right click to get a pointer. Going to experiment with them more.

So i get like a half second stutter every 15 to 20 seconds. Running a 660 with the latest drivers. This is the only game that does it. Ideas?

Its during gameplay and cutscenes.

Is the in game fps counter accurate? It's showing me bouncing anywhere from 35 to 60 but I swear I don't feel the drops.

I took a decent hit on performance when I got to the hinterlands. I switched over to mantle and gained about 15 fps. I'm running it in fullscreen because for some reason it stutters and isn't smooth at all in windowed fullscreen.

It seems pretty accurate to me. I can feel the drops when it shows.

So this game is as demanding on hardware as Unity but nowhere near as good looking? Well, I'll see in a few minutes.. installing now on my system... ;)

Don't do it.

I think the game requires a minimum of 4 core CPU, which you don't currently have. So unless you upgrade, you're one of the few who I would recommend to buy it on console.

This used to be the exact rig I had. I would presume that you would want to upgrade your CPU and card at least a little bit if you want a great graphics experience, but you should be able to run at lowest settings getting 25-30 fps. I would worry about your processor though, since I have an i5 4690k and it is being worked pretty hard, especially in towns.

EDIT: Yeah, looking at specs needed, you should upgrade your CPU to a quad core before you pull the trigger. The video card will be at least adequate if you want 30 FPS.

I had a little stutter. It was again caused by afterburner and Riva tuner statistics server. I think it conflicts with the Origin overlay since the other game I had a BIG stutter in battlefield 4. I closed afterburner and all is well.

For future attempts, I've disabled the Origin in-game overlay. We'll see how that works down the line. No more time to play with it today.

I haven't bothered to actually properly benchmark both games, but the performance doesn't seem greatly different to me on my GTX 770. Unity does have more advanced graphics, though, that much is clear to me. DAI looks great, even fantastic in some parts, but you can still see elements of it that were held back by it's cross-gen nature.

So here's what I got going. I think the benchmark in game is trash. I don't know what to make of it.

7950 3GB
I5 3570 OC 4.3
8 GIG RAM

I figured I'd be able to run this pretty smoothly. I've just settled with High settings across the board with MSAA off. Seems like it runs pretty good but some strange stutters here and there. Thinking of maybe holding off till we see some patch work going for better gains. Can't really tell between DX11 and Mantle though.

Sorry for the lame post that's already been answered a million times, but how well does the game play with a controller on PC ? I'm thinking of streaming it using my Nvidia Shield.

I'm debating between getting it for PC and PS4, but I'm not sure how far off the PS4 version looks compared to PC.

This game just runs all over the place on my 660.
However it never seems to dip below 30 so that's good.

Aside from the lack of being able to use the Dpad on the main menu it works great.
Have 4 hours in with just the controller as a warrior and have had no issues.

Oh, so you have to use the mouse to navigate the main menu... ? Hmm...

no, he said you cant use the dpad, not "you cant use the controller"

also Munch, someone posted a command line to lock the game at 30 if you dont want it all over the place

Ah my bad, thanks guys :)

I guess I'll get it for PC, I have the following rig, so I'm assuming I'll be able to run it better than the PS4 version:

i2500k oc'ed to 4.4ghz
GTX 670
8Gb Ram

dont get me wrong, its a STUPID STUPID thing to not let you do, but yeah you can use the analog stick, just not the dpad in menus. its quite annoying

also, the game feels great (some would argue its how its meant to be played) on a pad. you can only have 8 spells mapped anyway, even on keyboard

Well then.

I doubt my laptop's i7-3610QM and GTX 660M will be able to play this on medium @ 720p so I'll just go ahead and get it for the PS4.

Yeah I can see it getting annoying, they'll probably fix it at some point. With the game on consoles, I'm not surprised it feels great with a controller, I'm still happy to hear it though :)

Thanks for the info

Hmmm. I can usually pick them up. I don't feel it here.

Nvidia cards can't use mantle yet, can they?
Not yet, but also highly unlikely to ever be able to. (AMD developed it.)
