Canonically, who is the strongest fighter in the Smash Bros universe?

If they were all were to get into a giant rumble with their respective game universe powers, who would win? Science says Kirby right? I'm also positive villager would be the first to die. Or Wii Fit Trainer

Shulk, for reasons that can't be stated without massive spoilers. No one else even approaches him except for possibly Palutena and Rosalina, and they're both "possibly".

Seems good to me, although I've never played Xenoblade so I'll have to take your word for it. ^^

Although it is hard to evaluate how powerful someone like, say, Mr. Game & Watch is since he basically exists on a physical plane different from the other characters.

Well at the end of Kid Icarus Uprising
Hades did call Pit the strongest Nintendo Character in existence, albeit sarcastically.

Superman vs. Goku 2.0.
I really don't know.

Wait, wouldn't it be Kirby? People are saying Shulk, but Kirby can copy his abilities, right?

We just had this thread.

It comes down to gods/reality warpers and those operating at that power level. So Shulk, Palutena, Rosalina, Ness, and maybe Kirby.

Probably Ness or Ganon.

Seeing the future and having godly powers would be great, but would have a difficult time dealing with psychic powers. And only 2 things can kill Ganon, and they aren't exactly guaranteed. Even if he dies, he just comes back again anyways. This is a guy who sees multiple deaths as an annoying inconvenience.

Can someone spoiler tag Shulk's power level reasoning. I finished the game but don't quite remember it the way some of you do, I may have forgotten something.

Never thought about the whole Ganon thing, but in that case wouldn't Link be more powerful since he has the Master Sword?

At that point in time he may have been. Three sacred treasures + support of Palutena makes him absurdly strong.

I just assumed that for the purpose of this thread we're discussing base Pit.

Sonic.

No matter how far he has fallen and the astronomic, multiple-decade-spanning beatings he's taken, the franchise just won't die.

Kirby splits planets in half with a single punch.

Background
Kirby is a young alien boy who lives in the Kingdom of Dream Land on a planet known as Pop Star. His specific origins are unknown. Though rarely encountered, there are other members of his species living on Pop Star as well as other creatures who have similar copying powers.
Part of what sets him apart as the protector of Pop Star is Kirby’s insane amount of toonforce. Though relatively tiny, Kirby has enough strength to pummel a planet and plenty of experience fighting monsters that could destroy solar systems if left unchecked.
While usually a pretty jolly guy, Kirby will cross galaxies to hunt you down if you hurt anything he holds dear. Don’t touch his friends and planet and ESPECIALLY don’t mess with his food and sleep schedule. You have been warned.
Kirby is the living embodiment of the phrase, “you are what you eat.” He stands among the most powerful forces in the Nintendo multiverse.
Durability and Tenacity
Kirby is at the direct center of a VERY large explosion caused by the destruction of a plant that was engulfing his planet. He comes out of this without a scratch.
Kirby resists the pull of what looks and acts like black hole. He can survive getting sucked into this same vortex.
Kirby takes a direct hit by a warship's death-rays twice without issue.
Though atmospheric reentry and a lack of gravitation control can sometimes become a problem, Kirby can survive unaided in the vacuum of outer space.
Kirby is split apart by a surprise attack while he’s sleeping. His soul is able to hide away from the attack and lead the last miniature Kirby to safety. Over time, he’s able to resurrect the lost Kirby pieces and reform himself.
Another attempt to slice Kirby down to size just results in him splitting into four separate Kirbys. These Kirbys immediately grab a warp star and chase after the perpetrator.
Kirby has a high resistance to heat. Kirby is fine after being burnt by a massive battleship's exhaust pipe and thrown into the sea. Additionally, lava does minimal damage to the young pudge ball and he can engulf himself in flames without breaking a sweat.
Combat Feats
Kirby single-handedly destroys a massive airship. It’s unclear whether or not Kirby is attacking everything he sees or if he’s specifically targeting important parts of the ship.
Kirby effortlessly destroys a group of Metroids. Note that he is completely immune to their life-draining abilities. In Metroid canon, Samus Aran can only defeat Metriods after freezing them before hitting them with a barrage of missiles.
Kirby hits King Dedede, a character twice his size, so hard that the ruler is sent flying directly through the roof of his own castle and beyond.
Even without any copy abilities, Kirby's star spit is strong enough to rip apart a large mech.
Kirby uses puffs of air to destroy a tiny war blimp. This same attack can be used to send a human flying away in one hit.
Speaking of air-puffs, Kirby is able to exhale a sizable blast of air from his mouth after charging for a few seconds. Oddly enough, he's only been seen using that move when giving or receiving piggyback rides.
Kirby cuts a volcano in half. Though he uses a piece of wood in the video example, he has a chance of using a fish to do the same deed.
In one minigame of debatable canon, Kirby punches the ground with a 201 megaton hit, resulting in his planet being torn in two.
Several of Kirby's battles have resulted in dented or vaporized planets.
Inescapable Inhale
Kirby inhales so much that he eats a bosses' health bar, breaking the fourth wall.
If Kirby puts enough effort into his sucking, larger enemies and objects can shrink to fit in his mouth. This can be seen here and here. It's more obvious with Hypernova Kirby, who levitates and compresses some larger enemies before consumption.
When fighting an enemy disguised as Meta Knight, Kirby was able to get the sword ability by eating the debris caused by the foe's sword slashes.
Kirby's inhalation isn't restricted to the corporeal. He can snack on supernatural meals, such as balls of magical energy and ghosts.

Shulk reasoning (Big Xenoblade spoilers, you have been warned):

When Shulk gains the true full power of the Monado he becomes an all-powerful god slaying badass, who after killing their god literally manipulates and changes the universe to a more preferable one of his own free will.

People are talking about something other than base game Shulk in this thread though so I assume that's fair game.
