Ubisoft 'confident' that The Crew won't repeat Unity's mistakes

While The Crew is made by a different studio, many have become understandably wary of buying another Ubisoft product, so We reached out to Serkan Hasan The Crew’s lead game designer. He stated that he has total ‘confidence in the stability of the game and its performance’ and claimed that the team ‘have what it takes to make [this] a successful launch.’

He also promised that both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will perform well ‘Regarding performance, expect 1080p & 30fps on Xbox One & PS4 at launch. ‘

While the developers are never going to state that their game is broken before people have bought it, Hasan believes that the extensive beta testing has adequately prepared the game’s servers for launch.

‘For The Crew, we’ve reaped the benefits of a long term beta program, designed specifically to push our infrastructure as far as possible in real world situations, with thousands of players from all over the world playing the game at the same time.’

We managed to get some time with the game pre release and it certainly did seem to be fairly stable, but the ten thousand or so closed beta participants and hundreds of thousands of people playing simultaneously are obviously two very different kettles of fish.

‘The launch of any online game these days has potential issues’ admits Hasan ’but I hope that players will be encouraged by our open approach. If you had any doubts that we could pull this off, I hope that the betas proved our credentials and the game’s stability.’

Well, the no reviews pre release doesn't exactly scream confidence, but we'll find out next week.

Despite its impressive goal of reproducing the USA, The Crew looks well below average and the default control scheme is not fun.

The world actually looks very boring - there are no standout moments to be had.

At least that is what I gathered from the last version of the open beta. Doubt the launch day patch will improve things.

I'm sure the game won't have all the tech issues Unity had but this game just isn't very good. So its either decent/good game that runs like shit or bad game that is shit but actually runs.

UBI don't give a shit. They've got the reviews locked down, so enough fools will buy before the bad news gets out.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Probably because it looks like shit anyway.

Do they even take themselves seriously? Have they seen The Crew? They should have a company day where they all play it. The delays would be so real afterwards.

How well did Unity sell? Is this another Destiny situation where it already sold 10 million on hype before people realized it wasn't all that?

Ubisoft is terrible. They know they are going to get money regardless. They are just pushing shit out like its no ones business.

Doing a lap of Laguna Seca Raceway and then driving to the top of Pike's Peak all in one go stood out for me. As did flying off a ski jump. And turning a corner in time to watch some hot air balloons taking off. Not to mention there are some fantastic driving roads winding through canyons.

I think the world is far and away the best thing about the game and it's a real shame it'll only be used once, in a game destined for spectacular failure.

Once their ACU apology free game system goes live, I will probably pick The Crew for PS4
since I already own pretty much everything else.

I predict the following:
  • Server troubles even with a very low number of players. Connectivity issues force Ubi to release an offline mode patch.
  • Certain performance upgrades require insanity levels of grinding or straight up purchase for real monies. People will hate it.
  • The Crew platinum trophy will be the rarest thing on the planet. Yeti levels of rare.

I mean, sure, they'll make different mistakes with The Crew. Like this and like that.
Quoted for fucking truth. Ubisoft is quickly becoming anti-consumer with their shameless monetization of full-priced retail games. As a gamer, this is disgusting. I don't care if it's "optional," either, because it's a very dark path to open and travel.

The game is flooded with Microtransactions, that right there is a NO BUY for me. I have not bought 1 single game with those practices so far even if i am missing out. I have not bought Grand Theft Auto 5, none of the AC games since they all have the buy ingame cash for real money bullshit, I skipped BF4 because they sell packs that unlocks gun etc.

Thats my choice and i am proud of not supporting games that pull that shit.
You can tell me all you want "but you can get em all with out buying real money" all you wan't, i don't care. They make it so you have to play so damn long just to get 1 of those things just to tempt you and that right there, just the simple fact that they hamstring you makes me hate them more.

Some of those games i really really want to play but no, i won't break. :)

Assassins Creed: Cars. Drive by a tower to reveal a map with a bunch of icons you can drive to for missions.

It's hard to go lower then ACU in terms of launch quality.

Well, I don't think it will sell enough to strain the servers even though it's completely online, so it's going to avoid typical problems we might expect.
