When it was revealed, MANY people did think that was gonna be the in game level of detail specifically because of how good ND are.

Honestly, this crap never changes. It's not hard to extrapolate data from the graphics of other games and determine the type of power you might need for something. I can see this being hard for console only players, but there's no excuse aside from koolaid otherwise.

Am I the only one who feels like "the lighting is different" is going to become a new meme when defending obvious downgrades? You guys are giving the PR folks some great ammunition.

I almost feel like an asshole because I'm genuinely excited for this game and think it looks great, but saying that it looks just as good as the E3 teaser is a level of insanity that I can't hang with. Then again, I guess we saw the same kind of posts when the gameplay footage of Killzone 2 was finally revealed and we had some crazies saying it looked even better than the E3 reveal.

I just feel that if this happened in an Ubisoft or EA thread, people would be flipping their shit and grabbing their pitchforks and torches.

Oh, well. It's really not worth fighting over.

The gameplay model don't look as good as cut scene model was a given.
If you look at the end of demo the models look closer to the E3 one.

Did the people who are complaining about the graphics watch the ending?

It's literally like a CG movie near the end. And there are so much plants being lit realistically. That doesn't come cheap at all to render.

I can say the same thing for the UC zealots. And AC:Unity isn't the only game that looks better than this demo.

Zealots why? There is substantial evidence of your own gloss on AC Unity...which looks great in many ways but has some of the worst pop in of any game I have seen. You ask for substantiation...but then make unsubstantiated claims i.e. Farcry has better foliage.

This isn't going to be constructive anyway. Comparisons are pretty futile at this level. Personally, I think this handily looks better Unity. You will probably too though when you play it. You had the same approach with BF4 pre-release...then re-enacted

i think it looks fantastic. i appreciate this style of lighting that some are characterizing as "flat"; to me it, looks more painterly than the overly-fussy "film noir" look that so many developers prefer. they do need to work on making the platforms more irregular-looking in the cave. also i'm tired of the "platforming" in this series; it's an unchallenging chore. wish they would loosen it up so it was more like sketching on the fly versus connecting the dots. it does look like they're trying to be a little more variable with it, so i'll be minorly optimistic about that aspect.

Absolutely loving the free-form, multi-tiered, and open approach they are taking the gameplay this time around. Seems A LOT more exploratory and inviting for mutiple play-throughs and/or speed running. I really hope what was shown here is consistent throughout the game.

If you really try to spot the differences, they are clear. Less detailed facial geometry, lower quality hair.

People aren't going to get away with "time of day!" as an explanation for the difference this time.

I'll agree the hair has taken a downgrade but how about we wait and compare the actual cutscene before jumping to all these rash conclusion for the sake of trying downplay something that we all know looks fucking amazing. It rather pitiful watching some of you look for any way to discredit something that looks amazingly good to begin with.

I was impressed. Looks like stealth works a lot better and I liked the new moves.

edit: theres a backlash about the visuals? I think thats probably a result of all the hyperbole after the e3 trailer. The game looks good.

AI looked to be a step above the others. If it stays this way until release, it's gonna make encounters way more interesting than ever before.

If look at the end of demo the models look closer to the E3 one.

The only thing that matters in Naughty Dog games are gameplay footage, because they pre-render all of their cutscenes.

The E3 footage was claimed to be running in real time on the PS4 in engine at 60 fps. That specific scene may very well have been. No AI or anything else to account for obviously doesn't stress the anemic CPU in the PS4, allowing for more to be done without sacrificing frames.

It doesn't really matter, though, since they'll almost certainly go the pre-rendered route for cut scenes again. They've got plenty of space and it helps them mask load times, so it's a win-win solution.

I think the in-game footage looks great, for the record. I'm excited to play it. But if your argument is that no one ever expected the gameplay footage to look like the E3 reveal (which they shouldn't have in the first place), well, then I guess I'm arguing in here with no one. I don't know why anyone would care about cut scene footage, though.

100.

Trailer was a sham from the beginning. Final game will look decent enough, but I'm not expecting anything much better than what we've already seen from this gen.

Omg at that excellent level design. If the game is as tight as that all the way through, it will be amazing.

U3 was a bit of an let-down in terms of design compared to U2.This game makes the PS4 worth it alone.

??? The cutscenes were real time in this...

I thought it looked good. I like how they really are trying to increase the open world combat and vertical element a lot here. That looks fun to play. Hiding in the shrubs also looked pretty slick as well. 60fps is great too.

As mainly a PC gamer I was hoping uncharted 4 would blow me away, the only games I wished for on PC last gen were TLOU and Uncharted because even with the lower overall IQ in terms of aliasing and lower resolution they still looked fantastic to me, in terms of art and fidelity.

I watched this expecting to be wowed and came away very disappointed, I have seen better facial animations in recent games, more inspiring environments and sadly even better fidelity overall, this has either been hugely downgraded or Naughty Dog have dropped the ball.

Maybe because they are aiming for 60fps? I dunno, looks underwhelming to me.

You're not alone.
Even though I've played Ryse, Crysis 3, Unity on my fairly high end system (4770K/970) I was expecting significantly more out of UC4. To me the above mentioned games look much better on my PC, but that's just me probably.

also remembering TLoU and some of the things they cut from gameplay videos to gameplay, I hope the same doesn't happen here.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Since last generation mid twenties frame rate on consoles has always meant the game runs well. I don't remember playing a whole lot of games last gen that ran anywhere close to 60. Most of the games this gen run 30 or less on console.

Nothing in this video is beyond any of the best looking games we have seen so far. Character models, PBR materials, lighting, animation, texture res, indirect lighting, etc. all looks in line with what has been shown in other technologically impressive games.
It doesn't matter what was acceptable last gen. You're simply moving goalposts there. Just think about what they could do with visuals in this game if they chose to go for 900p and crappy framerate, if it already looks comparable to them at higher resolution and framerate. It also does animate better than anything other there, including AC:U, both in cutscenes and gameplay. What bothers me in AC:U gameplay animations is that stuff like running is still a very visible repeated loop, and doesn't look natural at all.

Oh, I think the game itself looks awesome, which is great, but I was definitely hoping for something that would completely raise the bar on real-time visuals. Maybe not a fair expectation...
Its the ps3 all over again. Uc1 wasn't that impressive to what they did in uc2.

That gameplay snippet gave me Black Flag vibes.

Looks fun. Graphics are, surprisingly, underwhelming though. My expectations were way too high.

ND already said that there not going the pre-rendered route for cut scenes .
It will be real time because pre-rendered will take up to much space.

The only thing better than the graphics is the level design.

What an incredible combat scenario. There are different levels, multiple pathways, the option to go stealthy or full combat. It's huge and open ended. They've had levels like this in previous games but they've never been this big.

Get me aboard the hype train.

I feel the need to download the gamersyde video and make a webm of the scene where he's looking out in the distance with the birds, that was just insane.

What makes this game look great to me is the encounter set up. It looks very dynamic and fast. Similar to how games like Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break focus on playing faster and being more dynamic than the stuff we saw last gen.

No it hasn't. We just put up with it.

Looks pretty good but the gameplay just doesn't seem interesting enough anymore. All the little touches and animations are there but they only carry you so far. Story and characters help too, but I never cared too much about any of the characters in Uncharted.

I wish they made Uncharted games as 4-5 hour 30€ games instead of stretching them too long and asking 70-75€. Split the game in half, sell them half-price with a year or two in-between or something. I know 10 hours or so isn't really that long, but I get tired of that gameplay well before the end although I always enjoy the first few hours.

The obvious solution is to wait for a sale and I hope I manage to do that with UC4.

Footage doesn't do a very good job of conveying the incredible visuals we saw with the debut trailer.

It looks washed out in comparison. Might have been a better idea to choose a different location to showcase in the first gameplay demo, this one didn't do the game many favours in terms of showcasing the visuals.
