Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Then I suppose it would possibly have the same trophies as the Steam version.

Correct. It's pretty much going to be a quickie port job with the lack of modding ability that the PC/Steam version has.

You'll also have the benefit of not having to deal with Square's "social network" thing as a DRM *knock on wood*, so bonus.

Every time I see this thread title I get angry.
Same. Fucking Square Enix. Biggest trolls in the entire damn industry. I don't even mind the idea of a PS4 port, but announce it on the PS blog or something. Not near the end of a god damn keynote about the 20th anniversary of Playstation. Could they be dumber?

Please be..... oh wait.
This is some of the funniest shit I have ever witness, the HYPE and then the UPSET.
Well play SE, well play. slowclip.gif

Current SE cannot create a remake of FF7 without completely ruining it anyway, so I am ok with this.

I'd be annoyed if this cost more than $9.99, the game is almost 20 years old... which makes me feel old. Thanks SquareEnix for making me feel old.

There is no confirmation because there is no need of confirmation. This is a PS4 game, trophies are mandatory for paying PS4 games. Not sure why so many people are asking.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I bet y'all gonna buy this game and get all the trophies

Indeed. I hope they won't remake FF7 ever. The outcome will leave a bad taste for the fans.
People are also asking for different kinds of FF7 already. I even read a request of total remake with different combat & exploration, for example.

This announcement. Can't believe Sony let that happen.
But the biggest problem is: people will still buy it.

Damn straight I'm buying this glorious game. Bought the original release, the PS1 classic on PSN, the steam release and I'll absolutely buy this one too. Take my money Square, just take all of it.

I still am dumbstruck, either that was the first move in their extremely sophisticated PR plan to bring us FFVII Remake to PS4, or they like to see us in pain...or they are absolutely clueless.

Just imagine the PS4 version having an option to switch to remake graphics by holding Select.

I wish this would've been that. A FF7 remake with on the fly graphics switching ala Halo Anniversary

With Halo, the original code was safely stored and readily available. Comments in the past point to FF7's being gone, making it very difficult if not impossible to re-engineer without completely rebuilding the engine, which would be very expensive and possibly considered not worth their while - at that point, why not go the full hog for a full $60 remake? But that option is too scary/difficult in an entirely different sense, so... it's easier to just keep pounding that PS1 ISO and its PC port.

(That said, some fans HAVE been rebuilding a version of FF7's engine that reads assets & info from the original disc to make it work on newer hardware: http://q-gears.sourceforge.net/)

Even though this is a shit move by Square, people will still buy this.

Why should Square make a costly remake if they can still milk the original 20 years later?

Man I thought sleeping on it for two days would calm me down, but I am still fucking upset about this.

That fucking presentation, that logo, that it's been 17 long years, that trailer. Jesus.

I cannot believe a company would be so outright hostile and cruel to its fans.

In every other industry companies are working extremely hard for their customers. Customer satisfaction is and should be an extreme focus. And in the gaming industry we are being treated like absolute dirt sometimes.

And the fact that Sony gave its blessing to this piece of shit gives me serious doubt about their insight into their fans.

Shuhei, Boyes, Layden, Bettenhausen, Suttner, they all should have known better.

The more I think about this, the more I realize that this announcement was downright CRUEL.

Seriously, how fucking clueless does Sony and Square Enix management have to be to intentionally plan something like this?

Can't think of another scenario in any industry where a company so smugly shit on the hopes and dreams of their fans and customers.

Isn't it more down to the fact that people's ridiculous expectations aren't met in wanting remasters/remakes? An FF7 remake will never happen, it doesn't need to happen personally, I'd rather SE concentrate on their new titles/FF games.

FF7 is a classic and is perfectly playable in its current form. Yes it has aged, but so have most games from that era.

I think a remake for SE is not worth the investment, otherwise it would of happened a while back.

Wait I just realised something, this is the SECOND TIME they troll us. Remember the PS3 tech demo? That was just as much trolling as this. Ots a long time ago so maybe it doesnt seem as bad as now but I still remember being pissed about that

Should've been nothing more than an article on the PSBlog site. What the hell were you thinking Sony, allowing it to be announced this way. I mean, how clueless can you get?

The tech demo wasn't really trolling, the video clearly stated technical demo and square have a history of remaking older games for tech demo's (N64 ff6 tech demo, ps2 FF8 tech demo). It did however open the door for all these "what if" scenarios for this highly loved game.

That would've been an even bigger troll, considering the Select button is gone on PS4.

Well there's goes the chance of that.

Damn me for forgetting about that. I suck.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the lack of original code. Wasn't that also alone already what caused the original PC release to feature issues that weren't in the PS1 version? On that note, how does the Steam rerelease stack up to the original PC release on that note, if the PS4 version is a port of that?

Also Q-Gears looks really interesting. Is there anyone still working on it?

As someone who has played both the PC and PS1 versions, I wouldn't recommend buying this. Higher res models clash with the low res pre-rendered backgrounds and cutscenes. Also, playing at the native resolution (320x240?) lets your imagination fill in the details of what you can't see, whereas high resolutions make the crudeness of the models undeniable.

The disparity was already noticeable at 640x480 resolution in 2003 (when I played the PC version), so at 1080p in 2014 I'm going to guess it looks like ass. Just wait for the inevitable PSOne Classics release. Of course, the ideal image quality for PS1 games will always be on an interlaced CRT.

So, is Square's PR gonna acknowledge this, you know, at all?
I've seen comments of rage at them from both Japan and the West so I highly doubt they are unaware of the backlash. It would be respectful for them, even if they don't apologize for it, to at least mention that they are aware of the rage.

That is why it would be smarter to do this with FFVIII and FFIX as their models are more detailed and would fit better with the environment.

This.

I remember nothing but pain from playing the PC version back when it was first released. It was a buggy, fugly affair and I think upscaling this crap will produce only tears.

I also would not be willing to pay more than £4.99 for this shite.

I don't mind double dipping normally but this is a curious case. I bought the PS1 Classic on PSN and now it seems I'll download the same digital title for my PS4...fine, PC port but it's the same game.

Remasters are another thing but paying for a port again seems rather excessive. I'll get it because since selling my PS3 I can't play the game and this will let me. But it feels unfair that I buy the same game twice on PSN where it's essentially the same version.

The more i think about this whole thing, the more i realize, its not even that i was expecting a remake, i wasn't at this point, how many years later, i had actually figured it wasn't ever coming, but it was the way they set up that reveal on stage, that truly makes me angry (and i'm not one to get angry over video games very often) but that just felt like they did it to be assholes, and i hope they realized how bad that made them look
