Ratchet and Clank PS4 is a complete reimagining, coming 2015, not Q1.

If this is any good it might finally push me over the edge of getting a PS4.

And since we're on the topic how's that R&C movie coming along then?

Because Insomniac is still willing to do Ratchet & Clanks while Naughty Dog has made it pretty clear that they don't want to return to games like Jak & Daxter, at least not without some huge changes to everything (in which case the resulting game wouldn't necessarily be the Jak & Daxter we know & love).

Yeah, the main people who worked on the Jak series at Naughty Dog are all long gone.

Cooooooooool. Much more appealing than a remake. Hopefully it's PS4 only so that it won't be held back.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think LBP3 has been Sony's only cross-gen PS4 game so far, and I can understand why they'd do it in that case. But I think they'll realise that releasing cross-gen first party games in late 2015 would be pretty much pointless.

Look forward to seeing more of this though. If they're being vague about the release date I'll assume we're looking at later in the year, so we will probably see loads more at next year's trade shows.

I never understood why Sony keeps pushing Ratchet and Clank instead of making a new Jak and Dexter! Makes no sense at all.

Jak and Dexter?

I'm playing ACIT right now and it's already getting amongst the best 7th gen games I've played. They added so many great things to an already great formula.

They absolutely need to bring back what they added in ACIT. And 60 fps.

The jetpack from Nexus was easily the best thing about that game, I'd love to see that return.

Best case would be if it was always able to recharge a tiny portion of its fuel, would make such a positive difference for combat mobility.

So this is basically a series reboot? A completely new game? Did I understand that correctly? If so, I'm in.

I don't think it's a reboot of the entire franchise, but a new adaptation of the first game. Same goes for the film.

I think the rest of the R&C games/continuity will be left as is.

Because Insomniac is willing to do more ratchet & clank games while ND is not willing to do more Jak & Daxter games? It's pretty simple. Hopefully Insominac returns to Crack in Time quality with this game. Love the series.

Now I'm interested. If it's a complete new game with different mechanics than the original, I'm in.

Can't wait to see how it looks and plays

A Ratchet & Clank movie is an easier sell than a Jak & Daxter one. More people would enjoy the former.

How would a Jak and Daxter title make more sense than R&C?

I'd love a new game that builds off Into The Nexus, the jetpack was a ton of fun. I can't get excited a for a "re-imagining" of a PS2 game. And please, 60FPS. The combat is a lot more fun when everything is silky smooth

Will keep an eye on it. To me R&C always felt a bit off.. Didn't really click with me. A lot was because of the physics in the game i think.
Great and fun tools/ weapons though.

I must be crazy because I thought it was known all along that the game would be based on the movie and the movie would be a re-imagining of Ratchet's origins.

Itll likely release with the movie in spring so q2 was always my guess.

From the movie trailers and info:

Nefarious is in it so he may be helping drekk likely double cross him

Ratchet failed a pilot test so racing may be revamped that way

Im excited either way

Ratchet and Clank lost a bit of soul from the original trilogy onward.

The humor was great.. the jokes were there... it wasn't trying too hard which made it all that much more lovable.

BAM.. PS3 version comes out, and the jokes are so-so while the game is trying hard to be the next pixar production in terms of story and character presentation.

They definitely started actively appealing to children around this point, I think.

I had a great time with the game, and I'm having trouble articulating why, but the original trilogy, part two especially imo, are hilarious and just more well made.

I agree w/ this 100%.

Hope they can find the magic again.

Insomniac Games never said early 2015, but Andrew House did say the first half of 2015.

Also, we knew it was a re-imagining from the beginning.

"Ratchet and Clank creator Insomniac Games is heavily involved in the film and we're also working with the studio to re-imagine the original Ratchet & Clank for PS4. The game will feature completely new visuals and gameplay sequences that will rival the best PS4 games on the market. Both the movie and the game will be available in the first half of 2015." (Andrew House, E3 2014 Press Conference)

What's the difference between remake and re-imagine? Serious question, because they sound like the same thing.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I just want to see any evidence of this game's existence. A screenshot, a teaser, anything.

One of my favorite franchises of all time.

Nothing beats Ratchet and Clank : Up Your Arsenal or Crack in Time or Tools of Destruction. Brilliant games.

Can't wait to see what they can do with the power within the PS4. I want realistic fur simulation on ratchets model.

You know I never did play Nexus so may have to grab that from Now sometime. When I don't have a bajillion hours worth of other games to try and beat.

What does "re-imagining" mean? HD remaster?

Definitely not that. The game is being made from scratch.

I think what they mean is probably close to a reboot, but not a reboot that completely changes everything. Character peronalities etc may stay the same, story may remain similar, but probably closer to whatever story they're doing for the movie. Game scenarios, weapons etc may be ramped up compared to the first game after having the knowledge of developing many R&C games over the years,

Usually when you say "reboot" it means critical elements of the series are being reworked into something different, characters are changing etc. That's not happening here, this is going to be like a traditional Ratchet & Clank game, but it is different enough to not be called a remake, and not different enough to be called a reboot.

I doubt it. The R&C Future series on the PS3 was 60 fps.

Insomniac, after making Crack In Time, said they're pushing for graphical fidelity and 30fps, rather than go after 60fps from that point on. Into the Nexus, part of the Future series that released after CiT, is 30fps.

All 4 One was also 30fps.

Fuse and sunset overdrive were also 30. At this point, It is really doubtful any new insomniac game is going to be 60. I don't mind as long as it's a solid 30fps though, Sunset Overdrive felt really smooth, the 2 hours that I played it.

I feel this should be bigger news, I had no idea NEW R&C PS4 was ever confirmed.

Can't wait!

OT:
Sunset Overdrive is awesome and you should buy it if you own an XB1. Insomniac is amazing.

After Sunset Overdrive I'm on board indefinitely.

Probably be the first R&C I'll buy day one. I own all the console (not handheld) R&C games but every single one was at greatest hits or bargain bin price. They are really better games than that. Playing through ACiT right now, have Nexus sealed.
