I didnt reinstall GWFL on a fresh 8.1 install and Dark Souls kept crashing. So I tried the beta toggle and it loads fine but I'm assuming my saves and achievements are unrecoverable now? Any way to un-do this and get my saves/achievements?

Yes.

But does it still work? I don't recall what Durante has said on the matter...
What I said a few weeks ago is that all the features of DSfix except for framerate unlocking will probably still work, and that framerate unlocking will most likely break. It seems like that's exactly what happened.

Seriously?

I've only played unlocked, but I didn't know there was a toggle for it.

Yeah, the later versions of DSFix allowed you to set a hotkey to toggle between framerates. You only needed to switch when sliding down ladders and for a handful of jumps so it's not a big deal at all.

Unfortunately, GFWL saves are a little fucky. They require both the original game save as well as the GFWL profile at the time the save was last updated. If you don't have both, you can't recover your save.

edit: Wait, when you say a fresh Win 8.1 install, do you mean that you formatted your HDD when you switched from 7? If so, you're probably out of luck unless you made backups.

Yeah DSfix seems to break the game running at the old settings but it's great to hear GFWL is gone for good.
EDIT: Oh it's just the framerate unlocking that crashes it, sweet! I can handle that

Can the framerate unlock issue be resolved?

Is it possible for anyone to get 60fps unlocked again?

My first time having GFWL work smoothly was deleting it from Dark Souls.

I'm really glad everything worked out and all my characters are okay.

Will it prevent launching the game? I have the game crashing atm, just copied essential cfg files, now removing all non essential dsfix, dscfix, sweetfx files and re-applying.

(will change the dsfix unlock fps though)

Yes. You have to change the framerate unlock from 1 to 0 in the DSFix.ini. Then the game will launch.

Oh well, time for a tenth playthrough then!

Most likely nwks could do it again, the question is how much effort it is and whether he is (a) still around and (b) willing to do it.

Unlike all other features of DSfix I implemented, which are based on API interception and therefore relatively stable across updates (unless the rendering behavior changes drastically), the FPS unlocking is based on binary patching of the program code, which breaks with pretty much every minor change causing a recompile of the game's executable.

Okay, everything reinstalled DSFIX, sweetfx, dscfix etc etc...

fps unlock disabled, game now launches, " dsfix applied" however only negative here for me is that my fps drops from 74-60fps, so don't know why you guys do not have 30fps, 60fps exists in the options menu.

Perfect timing. Gf is finishing up her last final this morning, and wanted to see if she'd get into Dark Souls this holiday break without having to deal with the headache that is (was) GFWL.

I managed to get the update up and working first time, and I thought I had DSFix installed. Guess not.

60Hz doesn't mean 60FPS.

Refresh rate isn't framerate

..So I happened to change my gamertag since the last time I played and now Dark Souls won't show me my save file. Is there something I can do to get it to work again?

Lost Planet 2 is more important than all of those :p

Oh man that would be a sure bet for Capcom to get back in my good graces

But regarding this fix, after switching to the beta the game doesn't load up.DARKSOULS.exe process loads up but otherwise nothing happens.

I have moved from the US to Canada since the last time I logged into GFW Live and now it won't let me log in as a security measure. I got an email from MS citing "unusual" account activity and it says they put additional security challenges in place for my protection, but I was not given the opportunity to answer any security questions, it just said I couldn't log in with that ID because of network connectivity problems. (Maybe I'm having two separate issues at once?)

Anyone have any advice?

Even from the grave, MS's fucking abortion is shitting on my face.

edit: got it sorted out. simple problem of security emails going to spam folder.

Go into Documents/NBGI/DarkSouls.

You should see two folders, your old and new gamer tag. Move all the files from your old gamer tag folder to your new gamer tag folder.

I had the same issue this morning, and this worked without a hitch for me.

lol wow. My bad guys, just got the game yesterday, was unaware it was fps locked to 30 (Dafuq)

So misread the 60hz>60fps. Dsfix and everything else works 100%, fraps says 30fps unfortunately.

So far so good...loaded my old NG+ save in Anor Londo, read a few ground messages, got invaded, died, all in about 8 mins.

Good stuff!

You shouldn't have needed fraps to determine that :p

So g4wl is still there but it's rendered inert (sort of like Fallout 3?)? That's what I'm getting from the instructions anyway.

is this new version using VAC now ?

Good question. Also, is the community going to be split until February between those using Steamworks via the 2.0 beta and who are still using GFWL? I imagine there's a large percentage of players who are completely oblivious to the Steamworks transition.

Literally only just created a character yesterday, lost my save file and wasn't too bothered about going through a process of retrieving it, so just created a new char, had to go through opening scene again locked at 30fps.

Definately not one of those people that cannot tell the difference by eye though :) - I notice 60-74fps (my monitor max that I had set yesterday)
