Interesting that he says he left Naughty Dog in April. They've been working on it that long, huh?

Well, i'd have expected some of them to have started looking at what was next when it shipped last year, so its not really a surprise.

Cant wait to see what they've got in store and I hope they work on another new IP after Uncharted is out.

Torn in a weird way because the first ended so perfectly, it really could have just remained a stand alone experience (with Left Behind completing the experience). But I'd be fooling myself if I didn't say that I want more. But maybe that's why they should have left it, like a Fawlty Towers scenario.

Of course, that was never going to happen. And a sequel isn't going to take anything away from the experience of playing the first. And it would probably be the most I've anticipated a game in a long time, Re-Mastered was breathtaking at times so really excited to see what they do.

Maybe ND are going to make The Last of Us a brand similar to Final Fantasy in which each game shares a different universe and story. The Last of Us 2 could be a story about the last great detective on earth trying to solve a great mystery. As long as the story and game play are there then it'll work.

I would love to see new characters in a different country. I want to see what's happening in the rest of the world. Joel and Ellie, if they appear at all, should only do so in cameo form, so fans can see where they are now.

Not gonna happen. Their story is over.

Whats more to tell?

They can tell 100 stories.
After TLOU, Fireflies are pissed at them [and they can probably locate Tommy somehow], Ellie is now fully trained as a survivor, and her relationship with Joe can either be stronger or she can hate him for making her sacrifices pointless ["It can't be for nothing"].

I have no doubts that they could find lots of great emotional and meaningful stories to tell.

...or they could just call that game The Detective and leave The Last of Us to encompass what we know it as.

Hmmm, yeah, this could work as well. TLoU as like an anthology series would be great too.

Agreed. New cast, but a Joel+Ellie cameo has to happen.

I was hoping ND would make a new IP, but I guess this is a good business decision.

I do hope this is something ND wanted and not something Sony imposed on them, but nonetheless, I think there's plenty of things you can do in that setting, and especially coming from Neil Druckmann who is a very talented writer.

Even if it's not considered by some to be the "masterpiece" the first game was, there's no doubt that an amazing experience is likely to come out of this.

Joel just rampaged through the Fireflies HQ, killed probably the only neurosurgeon capable of making a vaccine, and killed the leader of the organization who was most likely the only one who could trace Joel to his brother.

Fireflies are done, no need to bring them back.

Cool. I don't really see why people would be against the idea. In my opinion, a game having a sequel doesn't take away from the original game. The Last Of Us will still be the same The Last Of Us.

The game should have been called Grave of the Fireflies to be honest. Every time you go to meet them they've either been ambushed and killed by someone, then at the end Joel basically fucks them good.

Nah, I really don't see them doing that. Its not a bad idea but I can't see them wanting to make the games that potentially different (story wise), people not necessarily know what they're getting etc. Plus they might feel they have to keep the gameplay somewhat similar which might hamper them as well.

I'd rather they did more in TLOU universe and call new ideas different things.

Another 3rd Person Shooter? C'mon Naughty Dog! Something different, please!

I would imagine they have enough clout with Sony to do whatever they wanted, especially as they are making another Uncharted.

It was inevitable but still really welcome news, I'm sure they wouldn't be making it if they didn't have a good idea for it. An older Ellie as the lead is my guess/hope.

Next game should just be one person imo. I don't want to have another NPC ruining my immersion when they bump into enemies and not get spotted.

The most intense and fun gameplay sections of TLoU are when you're alone as just Joel or
Ellie
.

Examples:
- Hotel basement filled with infected
- University dorm with sleeping bloater and clickers
- Escaping from David and the cannibals
- Bossfight vs David
- Left behind DLC, searching for medicine for Joel

A bit sad since ND usually started new gen with new IPs :s
Oh well, it's going to be great.

Only because IPs like Crash and Jak were at a dead end both creatively and financially. Uncharted and TLOU are two of SCE's biggest properties right now so sequels are inevitable and totally welcome.

4 pages and nobody have asked whats going on over there at ND, it seems people have learned people leave and join AAA studios fairly often.

Anyway if TLOU2 happens I hope it uses a totally new cast.

I want an older Ellie as the lead. She's such a wonderful character and they could take her a lot of different places, separate from the story of the first game.

To be fair, TLoU came out the same year as a new gen.

Very much looking forward to it, as long as it would be with different characters. In fact I'm pretty sure someone (Neil?)at ND said that the Joel/ Ellie story was done and over.

Now this being said, it would be cool if the new story intersected at some point with some news/ info about them.

Why can't it just be one. I realize the game made a ton of money, but is this necessary?

It's like making a sequel to Forrest Gump.

Or... they are just way more pissed off. I would not count them off. ND could alwats showcase them in a different light, introduce true leader, someone who founded Fireflies in the beginning of the apocalypse. In TLOU they were just "some force out there", we never got a good look at them what they really are.

I feel like TLOU is a game you make once and leave it. It was so good that I don't think a sequel will ever be as good unfortunately.

Why are people so against the idea of a sequel? I'm dying for a game with the same atmosphere, storytelling, and gameplay as TLOU.

I really don't understand this attitude in general, it's not like the sequel is going to destroy every copy of the original game.

Also thank god they never made another Forrest Gump, as that is the most overrated POS film I have ever seen. ;)

The Last of Us 2 would effectively be a new game if the cast is changed. The concern shouldn't be with the way the game plays, but whether or not Naughty Dog can deliver on writing.

I don't think anyone could do a good sequel. TLoU was a game in which all elements were designed towards one dominant aspect of it. To use the same context with a different cast would mean having very limited story options since the setting wasn't very malleable in the first place, and to use the same characters would only add onto an already incredibly solid work, never actually surpassing it. And a correct mixture of both is a challenge worthy of the best writers in any medium.

I even feel like a sequel would go against the spirit of the original. Little about it would speak to anything other than a fundamentally commercial interest.

I am in the camp that desperately wanted TLOU 2 as TLOU was literally my favorite game of all time (I've beaten it 7 times, twice on grounded mode), however I am also in the camp that does not want the characters to be Ellie or Joel.

I love Ellie and Joel, I have never connected to video game characters (or movie for that matter) the way I did with these two. With that being said, I think the stories ambiguous ending was literally perfect in every way. I don't want that ambiguity to be ruined by creating a new story that explains things. I love the setting of TLOU which is why I want another game, but I want to see new people that were just trying to get by in this world.

I trust in Neil and Bruce so ultimately whatever happens I will probably enjoy, but thats just my two cents.

I don't know if it's possible to make a sequel without Joel in it. That would mean Troy Baker wouldn't be in the lead role of a video game.
