For fuck's sake, who thought it would be a good idea to have a 10-year-old kid do the voiceover for that advertisement?!

and this is what Oculus meant by saying they welcome other VR competitions ONLY if they what they're doing and not plain stupid like this. smh

also 600 dollars my ass

Heres the chat:

There is this product called 3Dhead. On it's website it uses Halo Reach in it's marketing.
haloman: at 17:32:29
Does Microsoft have ties with this company?
haloman: at 17:32:33

haloman: at 17:33:10
Okay
Igie T.: at 17:33:32
Thanks for waiting.
haloman: at 17:34:16
No problem
Igie T.: at 17:34:24
I cannot open the website exactly but may I know if how did they use the Halo game as part of their marketing strategy? They offer it as prize?
haloman: at 17:35:18
They claimed that the device will be able to play xbox games and used halo reach as an example
haloman: at 17:35:41
The image on their site depicts this
Igie T.: at 17:37:09
Okay, let me check this one with our specialist here
haloman: at 17:37:37
Okay thank you
Igie T.: at 17:39:42
Still checking this one if this works with Xbox since 3d head usually used in Sony products.
haloman: at 17:40:31
Do you want a direct link to promotional material that will be present at CES?
haloman: at 17:41:31
ignore the last message
haloman: at 17:42:11
"Win/Mac, Sony PS, XBOX"
haloman: at 17:42:15
from their website
Igie T.: at 17:41:55
Thanks so much for waiting. We appreciate this one.
haloman: at 17:42:23
No problem
Igie T.: at 17:43:49
We have checked this one here and there's no assurance it will work since it is not yet tested here in our end, Haloman. It seems that they only test it on their end but we cannot provide an assurance it will really work. But please do not worry because for sure if this company is willing to have us test their product and we found out it is good to go, we will include this as recommended compatible third party accessories.
Igie T.: at 17:44:18
I am also documenting this case here now so that the higher department can check this one too
haloman: at 17:45:10
Alright awesome! So don't buy it as of right now?
Igie T.: at 17:45:04
Yes please since we have not tested it yet.
haloman: at 17:45:41
Thanks for letting me know
Igie T.: at 17:45:32
Only few Sony games too work with 3D head device.
Igie T.: at 17:45:47
We will check this first, alright?
haloman: at 17:46:12
Okay
Igie T.: at 17:45:54
To make sure you won't paid for nothing.

Its just CES. Half the things are bullshit, some only to try and get in a niche first, for upcoming lawsuits or patent claims.
Just look at all the forgotten smartwatches that popped up 2 years ago when iwatch rumours started going round.

Good point. That's probably the case. "Acquire US, please!"

The saddest thing is that someone's money was used to make that. The most depressing thing is that someone thought that it's good enough to show. And search your heart, you know that somewhere there will be a kid bitterly disappointed to find this in a Christmas present instead of a Morpheus.

LOL, that kid is crackin me up man.. Other than the obvious, that the headset looks fucking ridiculously big, the kid really made the whole thing for me.

This is the kind of shit that pollute the acceptance of VR.
This being right next to Oculus at CES is a good thing for VR in many ways. Going from a demo of 3DHead, creating lowered expectations and then jumping into the brand new Oculus prototype demo should have a lot of people's jaws on the floor.

hipbabboom

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
I had to look at the calendar after watching the video just to make sure it wasn't April 1st. God that was cringe worthy!

Unless they get sick and never want to try VR again. That would be unfortunate.

After seeing the size of the device, I didn't think it could get more absurd. Then I saw that the price tag matches the size. With a price like that, it's already DOA. Nevermind the comical nature of the device, in general.

I needed a laugh today and this was certainly it.

My guess is that is literally a big LCD screen with a plastic shroud to block the light - no lenses or anything, so its like holding a 7" tablet up to your face and someone thowing a blanket over your head. The 'controller' is basically the same thing.

Then the 'tracks your arms and head' probably just maps a gyro to mouse look or the right analogue stick. It'll be god fucking awful.

Holy shit I'm fucking crying.
I just wanted to chime in and say that I'd never see this image before, and I was not prepared. I was boggled by the OP, and nearly suffocated laughing when I saw this. ;_; Thank you.

Regarding the...3D helmet thing itself, it does indeed look crazy bulky, and the advertising looks wacky. Why would anyone want to actually advertise as a [whatever] killer? That sort of seems like trying too hard.

I imagine Oculus is also working on VR-capable control methods, but I am not sure that an expensive steering wheel/pad/tablet thing is the answer.

Isn't there a saying where you keep someone who looks bad close to you so you look better? This is Oculus' chance at CES.

What the fuck did I just watch.

I don't think this is even VR.. it's just a 3D display mounted in a big-ass helmet. 3D != VR. How they can claim to be an "Oculus Killer" is beyond me.

This whole thing just screams vaporware and scam. I'm amazed they actually conned someone into letting them have a booth at CES.

Looks like a scam to lure dumb investors with the VR craze. They'll just run with the money.

(the title is a bit confusing, I first thought it was about an oculus device named KILLER)

It's an electronic and it's for...consumers...maybe not...

Just found this on the product page:

"The patented GCS3 is priced at over fifty thousand dollars! But you can get it for under $ 495 combined with patented Aurora 3D screens."

If only this was just a hilarious marketing campaign from Oculus to show how ridiculous VR used to be in the 90's.
