Having worked at Sony in the past, I can tell you this at the very least..

They do have a Confidential mark on things such as this, but its a red logo. It's actually three logos for how confidential it actually is, either, A,B or C. (it might be 1,2,3, can't remember).

It would most definitely be on this image if it was internal.

Yeah it should allow the console to run a bit cooler, or require less cooling.

like.no.other is an old Sony corporate branding, I think it might still be used for TVs though.

The more I look at this, the more likely it seems to have designed by Escher. I'm not sure how these images describe something that exists in 3D space.

A $299-$329 slim PS4 at E3 would be amazing. They'd dominate even harder, not to mention it'd drive the X1 price to $199 or so just to keep up. Good all around for us.

If this is real, this is how it'd work.

It'd have the disk drive, as you can see in the photo. Then it'll have the mobo with the APU and the RAM and all that jazz.

Then it'd come with no HDD, asking you to buy an external one, support for which comes with a SW update that arrives preinstalled on it. Plus, the power supply will be external.

Lastly, it'd be a fanless design, as there is no room for the fan in there. As a result it'd run extremely hot and throttle itself way more than it needs to. In order to combat this, the system reserve that's already in the PS4 SDK stays there as those CPU cores are turned off to cut down on heat.


So yeah, it's fake.

Why are peeps getting their panties in such a bunch over the disc drive being on the side? Hardly unusual. I quite like it, actually; keeps the front facade nice and clean.

External power brick and side disc drive all day, errrrrday if that form factor is the outcome.

Not on 20nm, especially if they upgrade the SoC to have better power gating features.

Still seems too early for a slim model though, next year most likely and even if this is true it is likely one of many design ideas at the moment.

Not sure I like the side mounted disc drive either as it means you have to have enough space for the console + discs to the left of it, means you actually need more space than you do with the current model even though it has a smaller foot print.

Exactly, makes no sense to me. Plus you'd have to have it pushed up to the right only in stands/units or the disc loading would be blocked off.

because it makes absolutely no sense from a functional point of view? it limits you in terms of where and how you can place the console to make it easy to insert disks and not obstruct the disk drive.
