Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

My vision might have been impaired by all those mc sticks with their different coloured side plastic thingys good to know they are still around.

Just the four that came to mind. I constantly see them posting pictures and updates. Foehammer is actually a local business. I've got 8 or 9 customs myself, and with padhacks, different consoles providing different amounts of power to USBs, different boards (paewangs, Chimps, Cthulus, PS360s), different sticks (don't even know what's in a Qanba), padhacks and custom pcbs have been far less than reliable. I will never take a custom stick to a tourney ever again after having multiple fail on me for no reason I, Toodles, or the person who wires my sticks could discern. Had a custom at a tourney that worked on every 360 at a tourney except one. At the same tourney, this stick didn't work if a Qanba was plugged in, but worked fine with every other stick. Three different EVOs, three different sticks, three different boards, and I had a problem at each one. Now I just take two mass produced sticks and I never have a problem. Other than carrying multiple sticks. That's a pain in the ass.

You'll forgive me if I prefer my "mass produced stick" that always works when I plug it in, no matter what stick, board, or pcb my opponent is using. :p

That's why I'd want a licensed pcb without homebrew or shady backdoor production. Of course the people behind the custom pcbs invested a huge amount of work in it and it's great that they work most of the time, but in the end they are still homebrew productions without access to all the knowledge hori/mc get from sony/ms when it comes to the inner workings. A clean licensed and easy to use pcb would be all that is needed. But yeah, wishful thinking since that would never happen. But once that'd happen I cannot see any huge points of failure that wouldn't also exist on the other sticks.

But perhaps I'm just a little bit sad because every stick one can buy nowadays is one of those huge, more expensive by the month ones that don't cater to me as a lover of smaller minimalistic sticks like namco, konami hyper stick or the early horis.

Yeah there is the initial hold/pre-auth but it will go away. We charge once it ships. Right now we are expecting the shipment to arrive BY late March. It could be earlier depending on production, let's keep our fingers crossed.

Also, we are blazing through these so thanks everyone who has already pre-ordered. It helps give us an idea of reorders.

Hey MarkMan I put in my preorder but got an error at check out checked my bank account and had a pre-authorized charge for the total amount. I never got any confirmation email and no records showing I placed an order on my madcatz account.

Any idea what I should do?

Have to dig a bit more, but they're out there.

Just bought a couple of Hayabusas to put in my TE2s. Just prefer the way they feel after playing on my fighting edges for so long. Now all I need are Markman's Type-N panels.

That Real Arcade Pro.V Hayabusa is also listed on Amazon Japan with a release date of Feb 19. So maybe that one comes out in February and the 4 Kai in March.

Now if only Hori would release a 85mm spacing Noir layout HRAP V, aka cheaper/less blingy/updated Fighting Edge, I'd be all over that.

I would give Hori ALL my (fight)money if they put out a Fighting Stick model with Hayabusa/Kuro parts. Keep it simple+small, bur arcade spec.

I'm going to order a couple panels from AMP Up customs on SRK. My friend got a panel for his VLX done:

I wants two. I also love how the start button is moved from the right of the sticks.

i have a fighting stick v3 and i love it

the only thing i hate is that fucking start and select button on the top. Looks cheap as hell feels cheap as hell. Wish they would put those buttons on the side, make the stick white and make it with premium parts and no dual pcb bullshit

nice.

i was thinking of doing a hrap layout on my madcatz te until i got my friend's hrap3. hrap3 with seimitsus... kreygasm

Finally?

The Fighting Commander 4 has been out since June 2014.

The FGC sure took their time to notice that little low priced pad with the superb pcb, but given that most retail sticks cost cost 150+ nowadays I suppose most don't question the sanity of using a $70 DS4 and instead start to look for alternatives

using a Dualshock 4 pcb is a nightmare, been waiting for a simple pcb like this one and for some reason have completely missed out on it being released in june already :D Going to leave the Paewang chip in there and add the hori as a secondary chip and use a simple toggle button to switch between them:

this fixes the issue of PS3 stick compatibility as developers seem to be ignoring the Skullgirls driver patch.

You and I both, brother.

As a member of gianthandsgaf, whoever delivers PS3+PS4+Noir gets my money.
Unitl then I'll wait. I planned on playing MKX with the DS4 anyway, so I have some time.

This'll do for me.

But I'd still buy another VLX.

I'm mostly against the idea of buying the stick AND an extra panel for it to make it my preferred layout. Especially considering that the TE2 is already the most expensive stick out there.

However, If they came out with a stick with the Type-N panel and black sides stock (unlikely) or there was a smoking tournament deal on a black sided TE2, I could be swayed.

Might be a surprise to some but we will be rolling out our FightStick TE2 parts range for PS3/PS4 & XB1 TE2s! Next week via @MadCatz!

!!

Now I just need those Persona sticks to ship, which should be this week sometime

I wonder why Madcatz never tried an equivalent.

The original TEs were a small version of the VLX design.

Honestly, we never saw the market for the VLX. I love it of course, but it really is much more of a niche on top of what is available out there. When it comes to priorities, we felt it wasn't a market/price segment we needed to be at.

Not gonna hate on it though, I love it and I probably have more VLX sticks than anyone haha.

Maybe one day! Let's hope :)

Is there any idea of when Eightarc is going to put out a next-gen stick? Have had my Fusion for a while and It'd be nice to have a stick for the consoles. Although not as necessary now that so many are coming to the PC where my Fusion is still useful.

Any more news on when the Kai will be able to be preordered in the US? Really do not want to miss the train on this one

Was the old MadCatz V.S. stick an attempt at the VLX? The design on those seemed overly complicated and under engineered for what they were. Sadly I can say the same of most all of MadCatz's hardware**.

An updated all-metal "narrow body" VLX at the ~$250 price point would move in decent numbers I think. I'd even be happy with an updated Fighting Edge w/o the lights/touchpad and a hinged bottom w/ knurled screw(s).

I'd also like to see more sticks do what Etokki and Mayflash have done with buttons that snap into the (thick) plexi overlay directly, rather than the metal panel underneath.

** Love ya and all Mark, but the industrial and mechanical engineering on most MadCatz stuff is just poor, regardless of pricepoint. When Mayflash can have dramatically better engineering behind their $60 MF002 stick, along with Razer's first outings, that says a lot. Hori is miles ahead of everybody, if i have to be honest.

You're entitled to your opinion. I will disagree with you of course, but I will not build an argument here as it seems you already have your opinion down. To answer your questions though.

The V.S. design (and FightStick PRO) was done before the VLX was unveiled at TGS 2009. It's actually funny. I remember showing laugh (etokki) the V.S. prior to us both launching (his Omni and our V.S.) and we had a good chuckle.

Mad Catz sticks aren't for everyone, in fact... I tell this to everyone. Arcade Sticks (and game pads) are purely preference. There is no set standard for an individual. Just go with what you prefer the most.

Also in regards to Razer's first outing. To their credit (and benefit) they had a hell of a reference point with Hori, Mad Catz and QanBa already established with great starting options. And you don't have to sell me on Hori. I'm pretty sure I'm their best customer. :)

I'm not saying the V.S. was a bad design. What I am saying, however, is that the V.S. seems needlessly complex relative to something like the Etokki Omni or Jasen's Panzer. All those fasteners, components, and assembly man hours add up.

A good example of what I'm on about is would be Hori's original RAP 1/2/3/EX vs their current sticks. Hori took the less-is-more KISS engineering principle to it's logical conclusion and they're better for it. A modern Hori stick is notable for how much isn't inside of it. When you get down to it the entire enclosure is two plastic castings, three sheet metal stampings, 12 screws, and a graphics overlay (additional stamping tweaks could get them down to 8 screws and two stampings I think).

The plexi overlay on the TE2, for instance, just seems needlessly complex and fiddly relative to the brilliantly simple overlay setup on the new $60 Mayflash stick.

MarkMan, just in case you browse for customer feedback, I really like the TE2s, and prefer Mad Catz products, as I have owned a bunch of different MC models, but I really like the functionality the PS3/PS4 Hori sticks are offering compared tot the TE2. I hope MC can look into implementing more of the DS4 pad's functionality into the upcoming sticks. (R3/L3, touchpad, etc) I'm not a Tourney player, an spend time in practice/training/trial modes, so I feel like I'd be missing features I might use if I went with a TE2.

Nah, the VS let me do stuff like this with all those components you dislike (my friend's stick)

The TE2 makes it EXTREMELY easy to swap out art. My only issue with that stick is the quality of the plexi. It doesn't sit well on the stick, it's really loose, and even on my xrd stick is coming up a bit around the buttons.

I personally hate the HRAP cases because it's much more difficult to customize them and I dislike the size.

I never insinuated that you were hinting the V.S. was a bad design. To each their own, of course. The V.S. had a lot of hidden features and while they may not be beneficial to some, I know some (such as Skilletor) appreciated it.

Again, a Hori stick is a Hori stick. A Mad Catz one is a Mad Catz one. I don't think I can make it any more clear.

I'm glad that Hori finally started changing their designs though. It took them quite a while to make the changes and I wonder what finally pushed them over the edge ;) !

GeoNeo

I disagree.
Markman or anyone in the know.

What has changed from the KI T.E2 to the USF4 and GGxrd T.E2? My friend has the KI T.E2 and the clear cover on top is way too thin and warps. Did they fix this?

So while I was in Japan I got the Madcatz T.E.2 Guilty Gear Xrd stick. However I've only just realised that there doesn't seem to be a headset jack anywhere on the thing. If I'm not blind and there actually isn't, is there anyway for me to talk to my friends in a party while using the stick? :/

Wireless headsets would work.

Or put your DS4 next to you and plug your headphones into that?

I'm with ya man. I definitely prefer Hori's simple designs over the other guys. I fucking can't stand plexi, so they're really the only option out there these days.

Hey what happened to your Xrd TE2 order btw? Mine's been stuck in "Pending Fulfillment" limbo....

I got mine last week.

That sucks, man. :( :( Have you PM'ed Markman? I know he checks the thread, but maybe he missed your message.

Or just say his name 3 times in the mirror or something.

TE2 is my favorite right now.

I played on the RAP4 last night and thought it was too small and waaaaaaaaaaaay too light.

Well I was going to just order one since I didn't want to wait for the RAPV.5 but it looks like there isn't any sticks in stock anywhere except ebay price gouging. ):
