If you press left on stick, you'll turn left on the spot as opposed to actually moving left. Tilting up will make you move forward, whichever direction you're facing. You must have played the PS1-era Resident Evil games right? That's what tank controls are.

I played Grim Fandango countless times with tank controls, I think I'll be fine. Also, this one is perfect:

"Run you pigeons! It's Robert Frost!"

Tank controls are a nightmare. Don't really get why anyone would cling to them and they're dead for a reason.

Looking forward to the game, and hopefully a modern control option then?

Thousands of people who have never experienced the game before will now enjoy it a bit less, just because Doublefine felt compelled to put that dumb trophy in there and players are compulsive about trophies. Not sure how I feel about that.

There ought to be a trophy for playing it with normal controls, just so people will play it the first time through using modern controls.

Having played through REmake using both sets of controls at various places ... I've got to say, for simple navigation, a game that uses sharp, fast camera angle switches like GF and RE controls far better with tank controls.

There's just too much randomness and potential screwups between camera switches using direct control.

Lolling at the trophy description though

Yep. I'm a big adventure game fan but I've never fully played through GF before. Now I'll be compelled to play the (arguably) inferior way because of this. I know I shouldn't care about trophies, but... eh, maybe I'll just do a second run with tank controls.

Just as an FYI, once you know the solutions to all the puzzles, if you skipped the cutscenes you could probably replay the entire game in two hours in tank mode to get the trophy.

Well, never getting that one. Might as well have a trophy for playing the whole game with a pine cone up your ass. It would be less uncomfortable.

I don't know, this doesn't seem as bad to me as collect all 100 useless trinkets trophies. But then I'm not a tank control hater.

I remember trying Grim Fandango once and giving up a few minutes in because the tank controls with KB+M were awful. Maybe it's not as bad with a gamepad... But yeah, will probably play it with the new control scheme.

That might be taking it a bit too far. If anyone is that anal about getting a trophy, then finding joy in anything probably doesn't come easy to them...

Edit: They will find joy in Grim Fandango no matter what.

I stopped giving a shit about trophies and cheevos once I got my new lappy and started playing games on it.

reading people's impressions about this will be gold. GF is one of the hardest point and click games ever made, definitely a game out of its era these days

No problem. This is not RE. The locations have simple layouts and there are no enemies to avoid!

I gave up waiting, bought a $20 PSN card off of Amazon and pre-ordered it on the US store this morning. I don't think we're even going to get the dynamic theme here, so that was extra incentive.
