The falsity of religion & God(s) is so self evident, m'lady

It really is. I find it a really difficult to comprehend how people can have an hour long conversation on the topic of whether god exists or not, it's an open and shut case.

Whether it's the nature and the abilities of gods or the ridiculous claims, promises and demands of religions, it all screams bullshit. It's like the worlds dumbest snake oil salesman. It's so blatantly not true.

The question "is god real?" should not be asked any more, it's been settled a long time ago. Unless, God himself decides to join the debate, there's nothing left to say at this point which could ever make a case for his/her existence.

I guess I understand there my be some very good reasons in our evolutionary and cultural history for the existence of religion and that some may even find it useful to cope with the harshness of the world. It's still just so... obviously false.

EDIT: I had originally included a set of arguments on why religion is false & lack evidence in God(s) but removed it because it would be repeating other people, I'd hoped to focus on my very poorly stated position that it is very obvious that religions are false, we don't actually need hour long debates.

To illustrate my point, a simple set of questions that no religious person can adequately address:

This is a terrible argument regardless of the OP's post.
Given the parameters of what would be needed for a Christian God to exist, namely, evidence of his freeing of Israelite slaves, a great deluge wiping out all but 8 of humanity, literal fire and sulfur raining from the heavens, I feel very confidently that since all three (And these are simply three I have chosen) have been disproven by historians and scientists, such a God could not exist.

Also there is the point that by practicing your belief, you are ignoring the 1000s of other possible deities.

Now, ignoring Christianity, if we go into other interpretations of God (Giving the ability to an illiterate man to write spontaneously, turning humans into animals) it's not too hard to come to the same conclusion.

Of course there is always the simple "Who created God" or Epicurus able and willing quote but I digress.

Regarding the OP, I feel he was a bit needlessly antagonistic, but I find people repeating that foolish "Fedora" tripe even more annoying.

Old white man in a robe 'don't touch yourself down there' god? Yeah, I'm gonna have to say nah.

Some kind of 'god(s)' that transcends our understanding (and wording of the definition), maybe even exiting outside of existence itself? Who knows. I don't.

OP even if that's what you believe you can't say something is obvious just because it's obvious. It's circular reasoning; the type of thing you're trying to debunk by debating religion; no?

People tend to extrapolate our lack of knowledge and the possibility of a higher power existing as being evidence for the existence of their deity of choice. It's understandable.

If you look at the parallels between competing religions and even religions that predate chtistianity you see many recurring themes. The flood for example. The literal or figurative consuming of the body of god. Or figure who is of a god but descends into hell to retrieve something. Joseph Campbell paints a nice theory on the hero in literature and religion.

I want the one true religion to have been wiped out by adherents of a surviving religion just because of how awkward that would make the rapture.

You've come in about 10 years too early, OP. Bring this up again after that length of time and you might get a different response.

In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my intelligence.

I for one figured out pretty early on what it took to truly know something to be true, and it takes a good deal actually. As a result it took a number of years of building knowledge, rational thinking tools, and hearing arguments to actual stake a claim on the atheist side. I was ambivalent and agnostic for a long time.

Honestly I think it's pretty self-evident that we spend most of our early life working on assumption and believe that adults around us understand more deeply and with conviction. It's the process that enables learning and eventually bootstraps our ability to think rationally. OP seems to completely disregard this, and he lacks empathy to the human condition. Be an educator not a proselytizer.

I rather like the flipside, instead of looking at the falsehood...if god(s) do exist then prove it. You know a scientific approach :)

It's why I prefer science over religion. The onus should be on believers to prove gods exist not for the skeptics to prove it's false.

I recall as a young kid in Sunday school literally being told to stop asking questions or pointing out things that were false/illogical. Yep it ended right there for me.

Shit OP, I think you might be the first person to arrive at such a conclusion. Must have been your razor wit and keen observational skills. Have you considered sharing your findings with the scientific community?
